Let's say that 10 years from now, the Canucks are still cupless, and your son has made the NHL as a player on an Eastern Conference team. The Canucks manage to make it to the finals for the first time since 2011 and they're facing the team that your son plays on.

Who would you cheer for?

If my son plays for any team other than the Canucks, I'll obviously cheer for him...but if it was Canucks vs. sons team in SCF, Canucks all the way. Of course, my views may change once I have a kid.

The day my son gets drafted is the day I become a fan of the team who drafted him.

OMG we could've had McKeown!

I think Virtanen was a terrible pick given that he's out for 6 months which will hinder his development. You don't pick someone at #6 under that circumstance, along with the fact that he was given a 3/5 IQ (aka he's dumb).

God dammit Benning. WHY VIRTANEN? Terrible move.

Cheer for my son, but secretly hope the Canucks do well (kinda depends on whether I'm still in Vancouver actually... :P) and pray that my son would ask to get traded to Vancouver after that SCF

Since I don't want kids and therefore won't have a son to play in the NHL I am going to take this question even further......... My love for the Canucks go beyond anything else. I would even cheer for the Canucks even if I was married to a hockey player (which sadly I am not) who played for another team (Random team in the East) and that team was in the finals against the Canucks. I still would cheer for the Canucks! Nothing should come between a Canucks fan and their team. Nothing! Hmmmmmmm I wonder if this is why I am still single :bigblush:

I was sure this was going to be about which is consistently the biggest disappointment.

Since I have no kids as of yet, I will abstain from voting.

Ha! I remember I made a similar thread and asked the same question back in 2010 when the Canucks played the Hawks in the playoffs. There was a feature on Andrew Ladd's dad, who worked in some warehouse and he was the only one cheering for the 'hawks at his workplace, eventhough he had always been a Canucks fan. Most people said you always cheer for your kid

I'd choose my son too because the Canucks as a franchise will always have another chance, assuming they don't get relocated or anything, while my son would only have a 10-15 year career window to win. Plus, having the Canucks win would be great, but the happiness that my son would feel if he won, and the pride the family would have, is forever.

OP...you are an awful, awful person. lol jk but this is a really tough situation for me. I guess it's kinda win/win but still. I'd have to go with son...I'll forever love the Nucks but seeing my boy lift that silver cup and having my last name engraved on it would trump all!!

Would really hope the Nucks win it the next year though! ;)

I guess the real answer here is if your kid is ranked in the top 60 and your a big Canucks fan tell him to fake an injury so he drops in the rankings far enough so we can get him with the thirtieth or sixtieth pick.

Watch Bowness somehow mess up Tampa Bay's already amazing 2 powerplay units...he'll probably tell Stamkos to do drop passes from centre ice, take him out from the faceoff dot, and place him infront of the goalie

I don't have, nor do I want children. But, if I did and faced the situation you described I'd root for my kid. That's a parent's sacred obligation.

....Unless he played for Chicago or Boston, in which case I'd disown his ass. I never wanted kids anyway.

Me too. If he's playing a team the Canucks are facing I won't speak to him until he is a Canuck. If he never gets to the Canucks organization then I never will acknowledge his existence.
Heck, I would throw my son from a bus if it meant the Canucks would win.

...it is probably a good thing I'm not a parent.

lol. yep.

but really, to everyone, i'd simplify by just saying "don't ever become a parent". what a horrible world/legacy we're leaving children.
