Well deserved. Kid's gonna be a star. Wonder how much it took to keep him in PHX though

He's gonna be good. I expect the contract to be similar to Yandle's.

Well-deserved. If anyone could ever be compared to Lidstrom, it's him.

Well deserved. I take it Pietrangelo will something like $7 million and Shattenkirk will get OEL's contract?

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

I dunno times are changing I guess. Guys like him probably get the money regardless. The one that really baffles me is Taylor hall.

By the end of OEL's contract he will look like a steal though. Cap will have gone up like 12 million and guys his caliber will be making an easy 8.

At this point I'd say yes. OEL can handle the toughest minutes effectively - where Edler can't IMO. Great underlying numbers. But it's still a risk with this type of contract and his age, you never know. Bridge contacts are going to be a thing of the past thanks to the Oilers.

Mark my words. Edler will prove to be better overall. I don't see OEL staying healthy.

OEL is 10x the player defensively that Edler is. Also a better puck mover and a better wrist shot, only advantage Eddy has is his slapper. He hasn't missed a game in his NHL career yet either. He skates like Keith no one is quick enough to hit him.

I love Eddy but OEL is another level.

Wondering how the other owners like writing checks to bail out PHX while the league continues to inflate player salaries with signings such as this? Mark my words... The never ending saga of finding new owners or PHX will be Bettman's downfall.

No kidding. Instead we get RFAs holding out for major money when they might turn into a Stastny or Backstrom (from the Caps). The little lesser deals at a shorter term is a much better way to go until these guys get more than a year or two's worth of improving performance.

Last year was a good year and he seems to be building on that, but look at how they feel about Yandle and his contract now.

I dunno times are changing I guess. Guys like him probably get the money regardless. The one that really baffles me is Taylor hall.

By the end of OEL's contract he will look like a steal though. Cap will have gone up like 12 million and guys his caliber will be making an easy 8.

He'll probably earn it, but there have been enough contracts that have flopped because they were premature and overpriced that I'd think teams would be more cautious - especially right after a lockout. I guess after Getzlaf I shouldn't be surprised.

OEL is beast. Watch him play, he is a game changer and is consistent defensively. IMO he's already better than Edler, and on a more offensive team he'd DEFINITELY put up more numbers - espescially assists. His passing is elite.

overpayment. Looking at his previous year stats, Not sure why so many silly canucks fan think this is a "steal" He is certainly not a offensive dman, with the numbers to back it up. Solid defensively. 5.5 million too early in his career to make that type of money. He would never gotten that in Vancouver

Players Nikolaj Ehlers have been compared too by the fan base of the Vancouver Canucks.

1 Pavel Bure

2 Markus Naslund

3 Nathan Mackkinon

4 Jonathan Drouin.

5 Jonathan Tavares

http://bleacherrepor...d-top-prospects

combine results.  Ehlers 5'11 162 lbs of solid rock.

It's not all about stats. You need to watch the games. Phoenix fans will tell you since the start of last-season he has been their de-facto number 1 defenseman. Better than Yandle. Better defensively and this season he has very good offensive numbers to boot.

Your post is clearly uninformed. Ekaman-Larsson is a very good defenseman. It's a great deal. In year 2+ of this contract it will be an absolute steal. I can see him being a consistent 40+ point, 24+ min and solid defensive player.

The structure of the deal is also very beneficial to the Coyotes. They're not a cap team, so the cap hit doesn't really matter. It's the salary that matter to them and the deal is backloaded. So now while he is still developing he will be making 3.5 million, then 4 million and later in the deal the salary will increase.

What is the deal with Mike Gillis, it always seems like he's sweating...

The defence in Phoenix is what makes them even passable. They're like St.Louis, making average goalies look like vezina candidates.
