Abbotsfords travel was brutal...I wonder if that's why Heat would move if this is going to happen

If the Aquilinis are indeed looking to move their farm team to the Fraser Valley, then Chilliwack might also be considered an option. The Abbotsford building seats 7000 for hockey and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Prospera Centre in Chilliwack has a big advantage over Abbotsford, and that is parking. Seriously, have you ever tried to get in and out of the pitiful parking in Abbotsford? The Aquilinis already are invested in the Falls Golf course out in Chilliwack, so they know the area and the market. It might be better to sell out 5000 every night and create a buzz than play in Abbotsford where the crowds have been poor. And for those wondering, it would add about twenty minutes each way if you are coming out from Metro Vancouver.

20 minutes is exactly the reason why it WONT happen

I know there is a local management group, but if they actually own the team, what incentive do they have to move the team to Utica? Especially when their losses are covered by the city during the 10 year agreement?

They dont , It makes absolutely no sense for Calgary to end there contract in Abbotsford and that what people are forgetting and as for Chilliwack that another person mention does not make sense because its far to close to Abbotsford and i would think the heat ownership would have huge issues with the local NHLs farm team moving there AHL team 20 minutes away when they already have attendance issues

I'm sure I don't only speak for myself, but I REALLY hope this does happen.

Fingers crossed.

We are not in the minority here.

A farm team as close as possible to the home team is always a good thing.

We could basically have an all-prospects team, but we'd likely bring in a few vets still to help out.

I still don't like the idea of the Millionaires for any team but a Vancouver team. They could try and stretch it to call them the Vancouver (area) Millionaires, but that's not quite right. My preference is for the Abbotsford Airmen (Aviators as a second choice) with the pilot version of the Johnny Canuck:

This is a great idea.

Good enough to be thread worthy should the purchase/move occur.

As an Abbotsford Resident I would say the Heat are moving more due to pressure from the Abbotsford City Council. When the Heat were approved we had a progressive Mayor that was shaking things up. The council had him removed by opposing him on a controversial issue and are now trying to stabilize things (in there perspective). That would include putting pressure on the Heat to move because they are costing the city so much money.

Enter the Canucks. A year ago the Aquillini's had a meeting with the Abby City Council which was closed doors. It was only assumed that they would be making a bid to buy the Heat Franchise and move the Canucks farm here. With them comes new resources including the alleviation of the Cities responsibility to pay for travel (my speculation). However, from a source at the Heat I have heard that the Canucks wanted to buy the Abbotsford Sports and Entertainment Complex along with the Heat's Franchise rights. Abbotsford at last word has refused this (not sure why).

Clearing up some things: The Heat Franchise is owned by a local business man and I am assume like any business man he would sell at the right price. Two the players on the Heat are owned by the Calgary Flames, not the Heat.. a similar situation to the Wolves. If the Canucks were to move their farm to Abby they could buy the Franchise (which is under contract with Abbotsford - not calgary) and force calgary to find another home (NY). Clear as mud.

They don't have motivation, they can however be bought out.

A city councillor has said the agreement can be bought out for just over 3 million.

A source of mine within the Heat organization has told me that Aquilini has purchased the arena off the city and now he can terminate a contract. They are waiting until the current season is over before making the announcement.

False, the building is owned by a third party.

You are talking about Lane Sweeting, who I have spoken to directly about all this. There are a LOT of reasons this could still not happen and it is extremely complicated. The one leveling agent is $$$. This deal is about 35% done. A long, long ways to go.

This is a great idea.

Good enough to be thread worthy should the purchase/move occur.

The design of the jerseys would change obviously (no V striping on the arms for instance), and maybe even a little modification of the logo so the frame and white around the neck aren't so pronounced a V shape, but those colours and the same basic logo could well be incorporated. I'm just no sure who has the rights to the logo, which is something that could be an issue.

If they do decide to name them The Airmen do I get some sort of credit?

I don't go in for sweets.

I think I'll hold out for the free inaugural jersey.

Seems only fair.

They would sell out for sure. They would also have a chance to learn to play in a pressure filled market from an early age, as they would have a lot more eyes and a lot more media on them. It would be really easy to do last minute call ups, and the living situations of players that bounce between (or hope to) the A and the N would be a lot easier.

I can't agree more. I go even further from a business angle. The Canuck brand is one of the most lucrative in the league right now and for the foreseeable future. There is tremendous pent-up demand for Canucks season tickets and a multi-year waiting list. Mark my words, if the Canucks move the Rivermen to Abby, I can virtually guarantee you that those who are on the Canucks waiting list for season tickets will have first shot at the Abby season tickets AND the Canucks will make the stipulation that if those who wish to eventually have the Canuck season tickets that they will HAVE to purchase the Abby season tickets and have the option to hold onto the Abby season tickets if they wish. As a result, the Abby building will also be close to sold out every night and the Canucks will make hand-over fist money having no issues flying in other AHL teams if that's what the previous arrangement was.

There's no way they would make people buy Abbotsford season tickets first. That makes no sense. What if they live in Vancouver? They have to travel to Abbotsford to watch the games?

I hate when the media jumps the gun with reports like this.

From the sounds of it, Peoria isn't going anywhere.

So unless Aquaman just buys the Heat, I don't think our farm team will be in Abbotsford.

And in my dreams they're dressed in Avelanch's Millionaires inspired uniforms. :)

Actually the best players on the wolves will stay in Chicago. Sterling and Haydar are the main reasons Chicago performs well
