I wouldn't mind it at all, but I doubt that we'll have room when Kes returns with Kassian

We already have one $4+Million player up front who can't score.

We don't need another one.

As apposed to him sitting in the box because AV doesn't look him as defense

While we're short a few guys I don't mind this move. He skates very well and (obviously) is aware defensively.

This thread alluded to it being a long term thing though.

He is not a top 6 forward because he won't put up top 6 numbers (hi Booth), and although he has the defensive tools to play in the bottom 6, his contract is too bloated to justify him down there.

He's a defenceman. Not a forward. If it helps short term, great. But long term he doesn't fit for the reasons I just mentioned.

Sure itis entirely possible but this seems more like wishful thinking. Ballard hasn't said anything so why believe it?

Plus as others have said, if you think Ballard can justify 4 million as a forward think again.

The only reason he plays forward on this team is because arguably his performance in the bottom pairing is only as good as Barker or Alberts. Plus Ballard is more high risk and not even high reward.

"Ballard joked, "you never know, maybe this is the start of a 10 year career as a forward." #canucks"

Even if he's joking, he's aware he could be staying there.

NO!

How about AV just admits he has been brutal to Ballard the past few years and puts him back on defence where he deserves to be and plays best..... Bally was playing a real solid game so far this season on D until AV scratched him for no reason

Semin just signed a 5 year extension, making him $7 million a year and is touted as "the Russian Sniper" and has a whopping 8 goals so far this year.

He may not be sniping goals this year but Eric Staal's play has improved greatly after playing with Semin

The worst +/- on the team in back to back losses. Twice as bad as Andrew Alberts who was second.

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

This might be what we need.. I've noticed the last few years in the playoffs that half the games we played with only five D, due to an injury or game misconduct or whatever.. and that made our remaining D play more minutes, getting more tired, and getting beat easier..

Maybe a D playing forward would help in those situations. Slotting back on the blue-line if there is an emergency. Yannick Weber does it all the time for Montreal.. Not saying Ballard has to be the guy to do that, but something to keep in mind anyways.. Playing two positions could be a good way to earn that big salary of his...

I only saw the first game he played LW this year and he looked pretty solid on the forecheck, defensive play etc.

I love it

+/- is a team stat, not an individual player stat. And if having two poor games in a row is enough to get scratched every player on our team would have spent time in the press box at some point.

+/- is totally over-emphasized to point out how great or crappy an individual player is. It is even more ridiculous to point to it in a single game or two rather than over a much longer period of time anyway.

Nothing fancy as a forward which I like and knows tough crease play...and I think is getting a little payback for the abuse regular D take on the forecheck ;)

Has 22 assists, plays on the top line, 2nd on the team in points and has the best +/- on the team. Great comparison though.

Or then of course there's always the Ferry

Also,
I'm putting together a list of the criteria to be a "real" Canuck's fan. So far I have this:

1. I cheer for the Canucks, whatever happens.
2. I never say anything bad about the Canucks.
3. I know the difference between "real" fans and posers just by how they post on the CDC or where they sit at GM Place.
4. I wouldn't dream of leaving a game before it ended, even if it meant missing a train, ferry or a threesome with the wife and her hot best friend?
5. I make 10+ posts a day and I have over 10,000 posts on the CDC, so my Canuck "street-cred" is huge. Go away noob!
6. No one F's with me. I train in MMA. I'm really tough. I'll curb stomp yo' donkey.
7. I make a tonne of $$$$.
8. I'm witty.
9. If it meant missing a game, I wouldn't study for a midterm.
10. I roll with a guy who has a wicked car.
11. I like to post "source?" a lot.

Who the hell cares about +/-......
Im pretty sure everybody here but you cares more about winning than about a friggin' +/- stat
Plus Bally has been going hard on the forecheck and doing what a legitimate top 9 forward should do.......
..........You should know that if you are a legitimate Canucks fan and watch their friggin' games :picard: :picard: :picard:

I just love how Ballard does whatever is asked of him. He has been slotted into so many roles in this team that aren't his strengths and skill set... but keeps plugging along.

He is an offensive top 4 defenceman, and in his tenure with the Canucks he has done pretty much everything but that (maybe he will play goal by the end of the year). He has played the wrong side on defence; he has tried to play the physical 3rd pairing guy by dropping the gloves a bunch; he has played forward; he has slotted in from the bench; he has tried to be a stay at home defenceman... he has never played 20+ minutes a game for a long stretch and gotten powerplay time like what he is actually built for and made a career from.

Maybe Gillis hasn't traded him because of his character......has anyone ever thought of that?

And the comment by Bieksa - joking or not - says it all about AV to me.

Maybe Gillis hasn't traded him because he doesn't want to sell low ever thought of that? Ballard has struggled here for a few reasons, adjusting to a new team, injury, players abouve him playing better for long stretches. Gillis wants a good return if he's trying to move him and Ballards value is at an all time low right now, he can play out of it but right now he's in a slump.

I'm not going to argue that Edler, Bieksa, Hamhuis and Garrison have been solid this year cause they have had their struggles too.
It is pretty simple whether you like it or not Ballard has been either just as good but not better than any of them most nights and struggling the rest.

The move to forward seems to have helped him oddly, whether it's long term or not is yet to be seen but fact is Ballard has struggled and it has more to do with Ballard himself not blindly blaming the coach.
