He certainly has not been given props at all for this and last season.

He worked hard to improve, and it showed. His skating is much improved, and is sound all around.

Feel bad for him that he hasnt seen much playing time, but he makes the most out of the opportunities.

I'll admit it, I was anti-Alberts all along but he has definitely shown improvement in the past games. He can be a useful player going into the playoffs.

I don't really ever feel too bad for players, unless injuries are involved.

These guys are pros and pretty much know where they stand. Alberts can look around the dressing room and see that he's the weakest skater and the least skilled of the D-Corps. He also realizes that he's the biggest defender and therefore has a role on the team. It's his job to play that role and lately, he's been doing it well, thus earning more playing time.

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

I always thought Alberts got a bad rap even his first season. He made some bad plays for sure but he has worked hard and is a valuable depth guy. Barker is more of the same old no physical play nor emotional involvement in the game. He looks like a robot out there and honestly I think he is a slower skater than Alberts is by a fair margin. I like how Alberts looks playing with Ballard this season more than I do with Tanev or Bieksa though.

Alberts is doing exactly what we need him to do. I think he is feeling less pressured to do everything and now focuses his energy on playing a solid defensive game and standing up for teammates when we need him. Our other d-men (Hamhuis, Garrison, Edler, Bieksa and Ballard) can provide enough offensive punch so I'm not worried about playing Alberts in the playoffs if he keeps up his solid play

He's a guy who knows exactly what his role is, and plays it well. We're going to need some of that anger/toughness come playoff time.

I've liked Alberts since he got here.
He has steadily improved imo.
Last year he had respectable underlying numbers. His corsi was -7.7 but he was getting only 39.7% offensive zone starts and producing 49.1% finishes. The year before he has very similar numbers.
This year his ozone starts and finishes are similar (41.7/49.7) and his corsi is nearly even at -1.04).
I think he performs his role very well - he's steady, he's physical and he generates positive territory as a depth defenseman - can't ask much more out of a 7th defensman (imo he's one of the better #7 in the NHL), particularly considering his very good value cap hit.
I'd be happy if he re-signed.

One of the dmen who actually punishes the other team. Edler needs to strap on a pair and hurt people.

It is great to see him fitting into his role more comfortably.
I remember when we picked him up for a third round pick but he didn't adjust well to our system.
Love the work he's put in to solidify his work as a stay-at-home defenceman.

Well if it isn't online then it can't be true right?

No need to be freebass without the freeb, I didn't catch those parts of the game, big deal right. <_<

Someone want to post the clip? I tried to find it but couldn't; thanks in advance!

Playing much better this season, actually. Way better than he has in previous years. He's sticking up for teammates, playing solidly defensively, and constantly jumping up into the rush without being a defensive liability. Really solid 6th defenseman, never mind 7th. I'm comfortable with him slotting into our top 4 if injuries require it... Just took him some time.

Just gotta love the big hits, big shot, and solid play. Just love it!

Hells ya!!! The big guy is hitting and not putting himself out of position. Its all good....

He has always had that edge in his game, probably our most consistent physical player on the team. In scrums he first to go after guys... i love that about him.

Most enjoyable game of the season so far, and in no small part because I could just imagine the Chicago forwards skating along the boards squeezing their sphincters awaiting their middle role in the inevitable Alberts board-vise.

Also, notice who often gets first call to kill penalties. Alberts will be even more important when (not if) we face St Louis, LA, or SJ first round, all of them big wing-to-wing. He better get slotted in for all those games, even if all our Dcore are healthy.

I hope that is the case too.

Alberts was excellent this season when he was slotted in over Bally for that 1st game against the Kings.

Somebody hasn't noticed that Edler has been improving steadily over the past few games. He was fantastic against the hawks.

Alberts game is very good. A much needed style of play if we are to go anywhere in the playoffs.
