Bissurnette
It's a draft, they pick who they want from the unprotected list. Ahh ok thanks
asian player
ok so if the team decides to stick with one goalie, can't we just trade the other and protect 1?
Knucklehd
Can they take from our prospects?? Cause if so, they bye bye Seriously?!? I'd be vetoing that every time if I could.
higgyfan
Can they take from our prospects?? Cause if so, they bye bye Sedin's. Horvat Kesler Burrows Gaunce Shinkaruk Cassels Jensen Matthias Kassian Who of that bunch will ever be better than the Sedins? I'm always amazed at how some Nuck fans take the Sedins for granted. One bad season and it's 'let's dump them'.
Gyllenhaal
Sure they would they would be gone right away. Can you not protect players with a no trade? This is a good question. If a player has a NMC can they still be drafted or are they not eligible?
BurgerKing
Teams like Bos, Chi, and LA would be more interesting. For us Edler>Stanton, not even thinking twice about it.
goalie13
ok so if the team decides to stick with one goalie, can't we just trade the other and protect 1? Basically correct. A sort of related story... Way back when the Canucks had the tandem of McLean and Whitmore, they traded away Doug Lidster for John Vanbiesbrouck just to provide protection for Whitmore. It was common knowledge that the Panthers were going to take Beezer in the expansion draft and since you weren't allowed to lose more than one goalie, Whitmore was safe. Sadly, Lidster then went on to help the Rangers beat the Canucks in the SCF.
King Heffy
If you think Edler wouldn't be protected you need to walk away and watch cricket. Hamhuis Tanev Garrison Bieksa Stanton Which of these defensemen has Edler outplayed over the last 2 seasons? If Edler doesn't learn how to play like an NHLer, and soon, this might be our best shot to get rid of him.
Dogbyte
Lack Hamhuis Stanton Tanev Garrison Bieksa Sedin Sedin Kesler Kassian Jensen Richardson Mattias Higgins Hansen - I only picked 8 (nine now with Jensen) forwards worth proctecting, the rest can be replaced or their contracts taken And I definitely get rid of Hansen, and possibly Tanev in a trade. All time leading scorers, dedicated community members and lifelong canucks left unprotected in an expanison draft. Classy. I get him and Travella mixed up. Out of this world. Nuxfanabroad
So it's smarter to package a vet or two with Kesler/Edler to get a higher return in prospects/picks.
goalie13
This is a good question. If a player has a NMC can they still be drafted or are they not eligible? They can still be drafted. A NTC or even NMC does not make the player exempt from an expansion draft.
Nuxfanabroad
^So this is a way to pressure unwanted players to waive clauses(like Edler). Teams like TBay/Det/Anaheim will certainly have to deal excess talent. It's another way that the league ensures parity.
King Heffy
They can still be drafted. A NTC or even NMC does not make the player exempt from an expansion draft. I think a player could pretty effectively argue that the NMC should protect them from an expansion draft. No Movement Clause? I'm pretty sure being drafted by an expansion team counts as movement. If Edler doesn't learn how to play like an NHLer, and soon, this might be our best shot to get rid of him. First off there is a reason he played 4 more even strength minutes a game than Stanton despite his awful plus minus. The year prior he played more minutes than any other canucks' dman. If he sucks so hard, why do they continue to play him so much? Are they deliberately trying to lose? At the very least he is better 5 on 5 than Garrison and Stanton. On the PP he is still their best option, same number of goals and 3 less points in 18 less games when compared to Garrison, look it up. Yes his play has dropped off, There are only a handful of guys in the nhl with that skillset and size, and teams don't just give them away. Many dmen don't hit their stride until they're close to 30, be patient with him.

Kevo882
You're talking like this expansion team is gonna start up tomorrow. The only report I heard was that IF they get a team in Seattle, it won't be for at least 2-3 years (probably longer if they have to build a new arena). No use in speculating about which players will be snagged because our team will look quite different by the time any of this POSSIBLY happens. CowtownCanuck
Interesting way to ditch some bad contracts, if an expansion team would touch them.
