  1. Imo, the core of this team is: Miller Petey Horvat Garland Hughes Demko Discussions on trades can be had about anyone else on the roster but, for me, these are my untouchables.
  2. Any deal involving Miller has to be under the assumption that he would be going to a contender. JR has made it clear he wants to concentrate on prospects and picks and rumor has it, he wants, at least, three blue-chip pieces. If he stays true to this philosophy, there are very few teams with the assets to trade. I'm sure JR would also prefer a trade to the east rather then having to face him multiple times a season if he were to stay in the west. So who has the pieces? 1. New York Rangers Braden Schneider, Brennan Othmann, 2 first round picks- A deal that fills all of JR's priorities. Braden Schneider, imo, makes a great partner for QH. Brennan Othmann looks to be trending as a top six LW that could fit well with Petey and Boeser. For a bad team, one unprotected first would be satisfactory but, New York, with the addition of Miller becomes a cup favorite, making their draft picks low, so yes, I want two. 2. Minnesota Wild Mathew Boldy, Ryan O'Rourke, 2 firsts, and Jordan Greenway Minnesota is one of the teams we will be chasing to win. Therefore, they have to pay a steeper price. Boldy is another LWer that would fit well with Petey and Boeser. O'Rourke is a physical defender who's not afraid to throw down. Greenway is an experienced, sizey winger and, again we get two bottom half first rounders. Either one of these deals, I would have a pretty tough time saying no to.
  3. Pearson has value. He's a good point producer with championship pedigree as long as he's put in the right role. In Hamonic's case, I don't think he's eligible to be traded if he's injured. Halak is still a good goaltender and provides great support to any starter. I just posted an idea in another thread that may also work in this situation. Tanner Pearson and Jaroslav Halak to Nashville for Luke Prokop and their second round pick 2022, and David Rittich. They get a good left-winger with playoff experience and an upgrade at the back-up position. We get a big, defender with great potential, a back-up on an expiring contract, and a valuable pick. Rittich expiring means we can sign Martin to the back-up role.
  4. Petey for me is an untouchable. There's far too much untapped game in him yet. Yes, he's having a bit of a down year but all good players experience those. I have full confidence he brings his "A" game next season. I am not sold on Fabbro. So far he's shown to be a decent defender but Fabbro's real value is in his offensive potential. So far he's not brought consistent scoring The Preds had hoped for. The player that, actually, intrigues me the most is Prokop. As a fan of a big defense, Prokop difinitely fits. At 6'4 219lbs, he's definitely got freight train written all over him. He's got above average speed, good mobility in all directions, can lay the big hits while not taking himself out of position or taking bad penalties, and is dependable in the defensive zone. While his offensive numbers are modest at best, scouts say there's some untapped ability that could be developed. At worst we'd be getting a big, physicical, defensive specialist for a third pairing role. I'd definitely be into snatching him up in a lesser deal. Tanner Pearson could be a name here. He gives them a bit of an upgrade at left wing with playoff experience. Tanner Pearson for Luke Prokop.,
  5. Honestly, when one looks at what they've done since the management and bench changes; Would it be unrealistic to hold tight and see what happens next season? The only big issue this off-season is the Boeser situation and his value. Moving an offensive, support winger for a support defender shouldn't be too big a thing to get over. A 12-4 record at the start of a season looks much better then in the middle of one.
  6. I've offered many options for Miller and Garland but the more I think about it, the more uncomfortable I am with moving either. Miller has become our top player and Garland is proving to be a very valuable winger on this team and is on a great contract. I love Braden Schneider's potential and in a short stint with The Rangers, he didn't disappoint, pretty much showing what I thought he'd be. A sizey, physical, reliable, complimentary defender who will put up modest point totals (thirty or so). I see him as a great fit with QH. I would be interested to see if they might be open to Brock Boeser.
  7. Demko would be a tough one. Imo, he's a top five goaltender in the NHL, he's got a lot of years left, and he's on a fantastic contract. That doesn't happen very often. That does not mean, however, that I would be completely opposed to dealing him under certain circumstances. If, for example, Miller were to be dealt, this would seem to indicate that JR is giving up on the playoffs for a couple seasons in order to regain young assets and prospects. Under this circumstance, I would say, all bets are off and all options are open for discussion. One ace in the Canucks deck is Ian Clarke. It seems he can turn almost any goaltender into a high-end talent. Marky came to Vancouver as a reclamation project. Clarke turned him into a star. Demko was doing ok until Clarke developed him into the star he is now. Clarke's fingerprint is all over Spencer Martin's game and seems to have revitalized him. Who knows? Maybe Martin deserves a better look. I must admit, I am curious. Montreal wouldn't make sense unless they could find a new home for Price but, Buffalo could make a ton of sense. They need a legit starter and Demko definitely fits the bill. I would definitely consider a deal, as long as both are unprotected. I'm not giving up a top-five goaltender, under a great contract for that many years without a steep price being paid.
  8. It's rumored that JR may be demanding three or four pieces for JTM, and rightfully so. It's also rumored that he's looking to be concentrating on prospects (which I'm all for). One thing I want to see is getting back to a more Pacific style game. Big, physical, grinding hockey. The style of hockey that wins championships. I I'm not saying JR should completely abandon skill and IQ but, physical edge should be part of a players make up; The perfect example of the type of player I'm talking about is Evander Kane. I don't want Kane, due to his personal issues but, his balance of skills, IQ, size, and willingness to play a mean spirited game are all at high levels. It is so unfortunate his character seems deeply flawed. Top prospects on my wishlist are Mason McTavish, Braden Schneider, Ryan O'Rourke. My top three draft hopes are Juraj Slafkovsky, David Jiricek, and Ryan Chesley. All these players play an edgy, physical game and have skills and hockey smarts. Any deal that nets us a couple of these players, I'm all for. I'd have to think that any deal involving Myers would have to include some salary retention. I'm for any deal that gets the bulk of his caphit off the books.
  9. Trading Miller would be a huge step back. It would also say this team isn't good enough to win. So, I'd be all in for another tear down. Keep Hughes, Petey, Hoglander, and Podkolzin. Everyone else is available. Let the bad contracts expire or, at least to where they can be bought out and gather as many prospects and picks as you can. Even take on some bad contracts for prospects and picks. JVR in Philly or Jonathan Druin out of Montreal might be desired cap dumps. JB left this team is a bad state. Trading Miller should signal the need for a change of philosophy and make a tear down necessary.
  10. That was an utter disgrace. And for Marky to be called the first star is a joke. To a man, every Canuck player should be personally apologizing to Demko (the real first star) for their embarrassing performance in front of him. Totally hung him out to dry. The question is; Does this team even have the character to be embarrassed? Totally disappointed with this team tonight.
  11. A lateral move doesn't help this team. If I'm dealing BB, the incoming player has to bring something different. One name that comes to mind is Lawson Couse. He's taken strides this year and could be coming into his own. Trading a bit more offence for a bit more physicality would be a deal I'd be into. Crouse Miller Garland That could be a fantastic line.
  12. The difference is two playoff runs at a great caphit versus one if we wait. If he's worth 2 pieces next tdl, he's easily worth four this one. That's a massive drop. Like I said though, I'd rather he re-signs here then moving him at all. I really couldn't see him passing up an 8x8 offer He'd be 38 by the time it expires.
  13. I must apologize and rescind that comment. JiB did say that during last years tdl press availability but, it wasn't about JTM specifically. He never named the player. Memory's not what it used to be.
  14. I can't help but bring up Miller's name here. Anaheim is proving to be better then expected and is playoff bound. JTM seems to be resilient to injury and keeps himself in peak shape. I could see him having, at least, five more seasons of peak production. Acquiring Miller places Anaheim in the conversation of favorites to win the cup, imo. I don't think bringing up McTavish's name in this scenario would be out of the question. Miller for McTavish, Comtois, a first, and a second could, and should be, looked at as a solid return for The Canucks. Comtois has definitely had a rough 21-22 campaign but his skillset has a lot of what Vancouver needs and, up until this year, was progressing nicely. He's a player I'd take a chance on to have a bounce back season next year.
  15. 1. We are 7 points out of the third place spot in the Pacific and 3 points behind the last realistic spot in the West. Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Calgary, all have games at hand on us. Tomorrow's game against Calgary is massive and could, very well be the most important game of our season. The difference between one point and five points is equally massive. 2. My personal preference is to re-sign Miller to a long-term deal but, as long as he doesn't express a desire to stay, it's not unfair to speculate his wish to move on. An interesting conversation with JB after last season revealed that a conversation took place between he and JTM of which JB said they had agreed that now was not the time for him to move. Now is not the time. Not a ringing endorsement for wanting to stay. He, again, had the oportunity to express a desire to stay, during his post-game interview when asked about the rumors around him. He had the opportunity to say he wanted to be a Canuck but, instead, sidestepped the question. Both sides say The NHL is a business. As any business man knows; Anything other then a yes is a no. JR doesn't seem to be one to beat around the bush. My feeling is that he already knows what JTM wants and is working to facilitate him. All indications are that he is seeking a trade to move Miller. Another thing I must mention is JR stating he wants to get back to the youth movement, saying that The Canucks are not in the right phase of the rebuild to be trading away draft picks and prospects and that returning to the youth movement is a necessary reality. Getting a hefty return for a peaking JT Miller, in the form of prospects and picks sounds like a solid plan, given above thoughts. I understand your desire for the best outcome but, given the current situation, it's not unreasonable to expect a different, perhaps, more plausible one.
  16. I'm all for keeping Miller and re-signing him (if he wants to stay) Miller, Petey, and Horvat down the middle is a pretty potent trio. Myers is a solid defender but, imo, was never going to be worth the six million dollar price tag. That being said, I don't see any interest in him unless we either retain salary or offer a sweetener, or maybe both.
  17. I would loooooove to see Vancouver get McTavish. He was #1 on my draft wishlist last draft. Unfortunately, he is rumored to be on The Ducks untouchable list and a gross overpayment may be required to get him. I don't think BB gets it done but, I do like where your heads at. He would be a great fit here. Another B Horvat type with higher offensive potential.
  18. The question, imo, isn't as simple as; Who would I rather keep? Given the choice, I say neither is expendable. Both players are key members to any success this team will have, moving forward. The problem lies with their desire to stay. Both are in their primes and ready to win. The team as a whole, however, is a mess. Other then Miller, EP40, Horvat, Demko, Garland, and Hughes, there really isn't much else. Subtracting Miller and Horvat, should neither wish to stay, leaves us with EP40, Demko, Garland, and Hughes. It feels like JR is going to be forced to qualify Boeser and hope that this season will be seen as a fluke down the road. Hoglander has yet to prove worthy of a top-six opportunity. Podkolzin hasn't brought the grit he was supposed to have in his game and hasn't provided enough offence to get excited about. Our bottom-six and most of our blue-line is woefully lacking any real subsance (other then Hughes of course) and are in need of overhauls. The question is; How? OEL and Tyler Myers take up too much capspace for what they bring to the table. OEL is looking at less then twenty points while playing more then twenty-two minutes a game. Tyler Myers might get to twenty points and also plays, in excess of, twenty minutes. These two situations and others should exemplify the gross incompetence JB showed while at the helm of this team and may well have the Canucks mired in obscurity for years to come. In the end, moving one could send a bad message to the other and losing both could become a real possibility, in which case, going back to the drawing board would seem the only option left.
  19. Trading in our own division is always a tough thing. No one wants to see a traded player coming back to haunt you but: JT Miller for Vilardi, Clarke, and their 2022 1st?
  20. Clarke would be a good start to a deal but LA would have to be adding more.
  21. Totally ok with the result given the lineup. Martin was impressive.
