      well... its not wrong

  2. Suddenly Benning doesn’t seem so bad

    1. Alflives

      Alflives

Benning was a terrible GM but at least appeared to be a decent person.  Aquilini just is a bad seed.  Benning took the hits for him and now JR is doing the same.

  3. Any chance someone on here works in immigration? Fiancee was sent back her permanent resident application without a letter/list explaining anything. Just trying to figure out if this is common.

If anyone on here can help it would be appreciated as the government site is not very good at providing info to questions such as this

When my wife applied(late 90's) we hired a lawyer to expedite the process. It worked pretty smooth way back then..good luck.

  4. This game should be a wake up call to Canucks fans as to how this is a transitional year.

Now is not the future folks. The Canucks have a bright one ahead, but let the young kids grow

      Dazzle

Every team has lost embarrassing games like this. Let's not read too much into this. Obviously there are issues with the team, but things can be worked out.

  5. Well 2019 was a good year for me. Graduated university, got engaged and saw the continued  growth of the Canucks young core. And no those aren't all equal ;). Heres hoping to good years for all of CDC in 2020!

    Happy New Years!

good luck lad, may this year be even better.  have a brewsky on smithers joe.

  6. That trade screams Benning wanting to save his ass and entertain the crowd.

With that said it could be a trade that works out well for us in the long run, but Miller will have to consistently score 20 goals

    1. Tystick

      Tystick

I think his goal has always been to make the playoffs and draft well.

Now we have a good chance to do that, and depending on his future trades and signings, it may be guaranteed.

If we make the playoffs, our 2020 1st would be 16-31.

Those picks can always be reacquired realistically IMO.

  7. This pick tells me the Canucks have a timeframe in mind for being competitive. More of a longterm developmental pick considering the type of player, but I couldn't be more excited with the pick!

    1. coastal.view

      coastal.view

      this pick at 10 oa

tells me that outside of the top 3 - 5 picks each draft

the rest of the 1st round need a season or 2

before they mature enough to crack an nhl line up

so yeah, unlikely he could step into the nuck line immediately after being drafted

most fans are very excited about our young talent

but none, no one, stepped right onto the team after being drafted

so nothing really to see here

  8. Those times in the past you made proposals including Roope Hintz and everyone was saying he's a redundant prospect.

    Kids good

    1. ItsMillerTime

      ItsMillerTime

That's a good feeling. Most people probably judged him off his NHL rating though.

  9. Virtanen looks just plain stupid out there sometimes

  10. Trade Sutter(20% retained) for a 2nd and a 4th.

Draft Drew Helleson and Michael Gildon with the 4th.

    1. smithers joe

      smithers joe

trade him to who, which team will give us a 2nd and 4th. need to know which team will do this?

  11. Sad how we are only 5P out of a wildcard but 6th worst in the league. The West was truly bad this year

    1. Nuxfanabroad

      Nuxfanabroad

Now 7, 8 pts back of WC slot. Time to start thinking next yr...

  12. Why in the absolute f.ck am I still having to watch Pouliot play on this team.

Every time he's out there he &^@#s up.

    1. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

Says a lot there’s nobody better on the farm than feces right now.  Can’t blame Gillis in this.

  13. Crazy to think the Canucks are 18th in the league but only 5 points separate them from 28th. A lot of western conference opponents in a compact 3 week schedule before the deadline. Will be interesting to see how this team handles the pressure and whether their conditioning holds up. If they fall out of the race I can still see us becoming sellers.

  14. Ive basically accepted that the Canucks are going to fall in this lottery. But a top 5 pick is great and definitely what this team needs. It would just be an added bonus if we pick 1st or 2nd. Im my mind third overall doesn't really matter as there are so many players in the same bracket there.

    1. King Heffy

      King Heffy

Patrick, Hrischier, Middlestadt, or a defenseman.

  15. Canucks look tired both physically and mentally. They've had a hard schedule this year with a lot of injuries.

Not a pretty year so far.

    1. Nuxfanabroad

      Nuxfanabroad

      Perfect for 2019 draft! :^)

  16. Going to be nice next year to have guys you actually WANT to see called up from the minors. Whether thats Gaudette, Dahlen, Chatfield, Demko, Brisebois, MacEwen, Palmu, Lind, Hughes?etc. It will be fun to have the ability to call up some of our best prospects.

    1. Fateless

      Fateless

I know there are already a few players that will be gifted roster spots in the opening night line-up that I'm hoping get injured for lengthy periods of time.

  17. I don't care if the Canucks win but it would be nice to see them score a goal at least.

On a side note I think Goldy is looking very good tonight!

    1. Jam126

      Jam126

Hasn't this happened every March for the past 3 seasons where the Canucks only score 1 goal every 3 games?

  18. Wow we have a lot of potential top 6 forward and goalie prospects doing extremely well. But we definitely need some top end D prospects. Hoping Benning takes 2 defenders in the top 3 rounds next draft. Although Im a believer in draft best player available we need some D prospect depth.

Forwards- Pettersson, Dahlen, Goldobin, Lind, Gaudette, Gadj, Palmu, Lockwood. Not to mention our young graduates like Bo, Boeser, Baer, Granny, Virtanen. Theres also others that could surprise such as Jasek, MacEwen and Zhukenov.

Defense- Juolevi(LD), Brisebois(LD), Chatfield(RD). All have top 4 potential but besides Juolevi not much top pairing potential. Young graduates include Stetcher and Hutton who have top 4 potential. Other more unknown guys like Pouliot, McEneny, Tryamkin, Subban have potential but whether they will be full time NHlers is questionable. One unknown Im looking forward to watching is Rathbone as we took him in the 4th round and scouting reports have him rated highly.

Goalies- Demko, DiPietro...enough said, were good.

To some up we have some amazing up and coming prospects but are currently lacking top end defensemen. Definitely what Benning should be targeting in upcoming trades and the draft.

    1. smithers joe

      smithers joe

i trust that benning knows what we need and will do his best to get it for the team.

  19. Cant believe how deep Toronto and Edmonton are at forward yet both so far seem reluctant to deal a piece for a good defence man. Hoping we trade Edler at the deadline, could fetch us another nice piece. And if not Edler then Tanev.

    1. morrissex95

      morrissex95

Tanev will likely be moved at some point in the next couple of years.

  20. What Ryan Pulock worth in a trade? Would Baertschi do it?

    1. morrissex95

      morrissex95

      Pulock looks promising.

I think NYI wants him to replace Hamonic

  21. Just thinking about last season when Burr/Hans were traded at the deadline and it got me thinking of how I enjoyed cheering for them on other teams. Then my thoughts turned to the Sedins and it left me wondering...would I rather watch the Sedins in Canucks colours for they're whole career but lose non stop in the end of said career, or watch them get traded to a contending team and cheer them on to a potential cup? My mind set is Id rather see them contend for a Cup and cheer them on since they will always be Canucks in my eyes! Therefor I think we should trade the Sedins if they wish too contend and give Canucks fans something to cheer about!

    1. Ossi Vaananen

      Ossi Vaananen

It's just the team we're trading with would have to take on 14 million in cap space. We're already holding onto the max salary retention with Hansen/Luongo. I'd like to see them move on as well. We're not in a place to be competitive in their twilight, so they should really either retire or move on to a better positioned team.

  22. When thecanuckway guys write this lol

"If at least five of these guys can play up to their respective potentials in 2017-18, the Vancouver Canucks just might own one of the NHL’s most prolific scoring machines."

Lets be real. Canucks are not going to be good next year as we have no star power. We have past stars and potential future stars but to say we are going to be a leading goal scoring team in the NHL is ridiculous. Sedins are most likely going to be like last year or decline a little more, maybe 30 goals between them. Many other guys like Sutter, Dorsett, Eriksson, Gagner have reached their peak and may be consistent producer at what they are producing now. 17, 8, 20, 15 goals respectively.  And then you have our young up and comers.. Bo, Baer, Gran, Boes?  are the only ones I can see potting around 20 goals. Add all those up and assume everyone performs to their potential and doesn't get injured. Add in the few other goals scored form others and you arrive at roughly 180-200 goals which is just above where we finished last year in NHL goal scoring.

Definitely not a prolific goal scoring club but I am hoping for young guys to truly exceed expectations

    1. Fateless

      Fateless

I really hope our kids take a step forward, our "expendables" (Gagner, Sutter, Dorsett, etc.) have good years, and our veterans (Sedins, Eriksson, etc.) have down years.

Its obvious why I want the kids to improve. We need them to improve if this rebuild is going to work.

I want the "expendables" to perform well to give them value at the trade deadline so that we can have one final strong draft before actually rising in the standings.

I want the veterans to do poorly so that we can still finish at the bottom of the table and take a franchise changing player which is exactly what our future core needs. We won't win a cup with our prospect group until we gain that top-end elite player and I don't believe we have them yet.

  23. I don't know what the market will be regarding Markov this offseason but he'd be a great guy too sign on a one year deal. Especially if we trade a vet. Guys 38 but had 6 goals, 30 assists, +18 and played 22mins on average! Would be a great player for the short term and then just flip him at the trade deadline!

    1. Mike Vanderhoek

      Mike Vanderhoek

think he will stay out East, New Jersey ?

  24. Great night of hockey! Boeser and the triple B line just lighting it up! Will say that if Virtanen isn't going to play more then he should be in Utica playing big minutes and having the ability to practice more. When Gaunce comes up, send virtanen down
