  1. Any time I think about Myers’s play, I just compare him to gudbranson. Bigger, faster, softer hands, better vision, greater offensive instincts, better shot, better positioning. Yeah he $2 million more, but wow is it ever a huge upgrade. Last year Stetcher was probably our 3rd best defensemen behind Tanev and Edler. So far, Stetcher Has been the 6th best D-man despite playing just as well as last year. Myers is a huge upgrade over Gudbranson, Ben is an upgrade over Hutton/pouliot/Del Zotto, and Quinn Hughes is a game breaker (we have TWO of those now with him and Petey). The defence is undeniably improved even with just the 3 game sample size. The top 6 is improved as well. Leivo probably ended the season as our 5th best forward last year, now he’s probably 7th. Miller and Pearson are perfect complimentary pieces in our top 6. I’d say we’re only missing one more winger, hopefully ferland takes that role over. Bottom 6 is better too despite the complaining we’re hearing. Sutter healthy, Gaudette playing very well, and one of Leivo/ferland makes the 3rd line way better than the spooners/ mottes/ goldobins/ leipsics/ erikssons we had rotating through that line last year. 4th line is basically the same. Once Roussel gets healthy I think it will be better. Depth this year is much better. Motte, Baertschi, joulevi, fantenberg are all up grades over anything we’ve had in the past.
  2. Could be an indicator for what markstrom’s next contract looks like?
  3. Okay but I’m not sure how is making the team as a C this year. Putting him with Petey for 1 pre season game to see what happens doesn’t mean he won’t develop as a C
  4. Goldy will get claimed. Pretty much a guarantee. Ottawa, Edmonton, Islanders, Arizona, Buffalo are all teams that would take a free flyer in a guy like that
  5. Motte won’t count as a veteran on the farm squad though, so he’s better to have down there as it means players like Boucher and sautner don’t need to be benched every now and then
  6. Ahhh yes putting goldy in a position to succeed with *checks notes* Utica-bound grinders? Not sure about this one chief. Also, what does a guy have to do to see Gaudette get a look on Petey’s rw????
  7. Nobody gunna talk about the massive deal St. Louis signed Faulk too after the trade? 7 years at 6.5 per? I much prefer Tyler myers on a 5 year 6 mill per sand we didn’t have to give up a Nils Hoglander level prospect to get him
  8. For players bouncing back and forth between the two organizations (Gaudette, sautner, likely rafferty, macewan, joulevi) I think having the team in Abby would be way better. Also, it would obviously be better for Canucks fans because it would be easy to go see the Comets if you can’t afford big league tickets. However, in terms of how much it would affect development and team success to move the farm out west? Probably minimal, or none at all. Utica is a good hockey town with a good arena and easy travel and lots of support staff and facilities. No need to fix something that’s not broken. Should only switch to Abby if the GM knows that all the good things about Utica will transfer to Abby
  9. Gotta REALLY good feeling it’s going to be a 3 year deal. Hopefully 6 mill or less aav
  10. Maybe structure it like 4m, 5m, 6m, 9m for a four year contract. AAV is 6 million per year with a 9m QO in the final year. Accepting the QO takes him straight to Free agency. With the cap likely going up and lots of money coming off the books, Canucks can likely afford a long term contract for him then. Seems pretty fair based on what werenski signed, imo. Only downside is then he expires the same year as bo, Miller, and ferland. I don’t know if Jim wants two thirds of his top 6 expiring all at the same time
  11. Would love to see something similar for brock... maybe it would take 6 mill but a 3 year deal would be ideal imo
  12. To Ott Jesse Puljujarvi To Edm Chris Tierney ottawa gets a high ceiling risky prospect looking for a fresh start. JP will almost certainly stay in their top 6 all season. Edmonton gets an offensively capable middle 6 centre who is due a raise next year that Ottawa likely doesn’t want to give. Ott has some depth at centre so they can afford to move a centre for a winger
  13. Yeah I think I have quite a few players having “career years” in my goal projection, but what’s nice to remember is even if you take 30-40 goals out of the total, it’s still reasonable to see them in the playoffs
  14. Canucks will add 64 (!) goals this season and finish the year in the top 5 in scoring with 283 goals. Breakdown of goal totals below: Ferland - 17 Petey - 32 Boeser - 35 Baertschi - 14 Horvat - 29 Miller - 21 Pearson - 16 Sutter - 12 Virtanen - 18 Roussell - 8 Beagle - 6 Leivo - 14 Motte - 7 Goldobin - 9 Gaudette - 9 Schaller - 2 Edler - 8 Myers - 7 Hughes - 6 Tanev - 1 Benn - 4 Stetcher - 4 Joulevi - 2 Fantenburg - 1 Biega 1
  15. Yeah probably Miller or Dorset. Also liked Bonino while he was here
  16. Uhhhh yes we can afford that? We actually gain cap space in this scenario and we already have enough room to sign brock. How does more cap space make it more difficult to sign him? also, I think you’re missing the mark on how much value puljujarvi has at this point. While he was a high pick with lots of offensive potential, he has regressed every year since his draft year, has gone through substantial injury problems, lost all his confidence, requires waivers, has demanded a trade, and has a poor attitude. We’ve seen high picks in similar situations be traded for less than a 50% retained Sutter. Yakupov comes to mind
  17. A loss of 15 pounds puts him around 181 pounds. About the same as what the Sedins played at. If he is going to play light, he might as well actually BE light so that he can take advantage of using speed and skill better
  18. Bo signed that contract 2 seasons ago though. Gotta look at the two seasons before he signed the contract if you want to compare them fairly. 40 points in 82 games followed by 52 points in 81 games while being an effective 2 way centre. Career high 20 goals at the time. 2nd unit pp and 2nd unit pk. Cap was also 75 million at the time. An equivalent contract signed today would be 5.975 or basically $6million per year. Seems pretty fair to me at the time. Only now that he has improved does his contract seem like he is getting ripped off. If Bo was an RFA right now I’d bet he would probably get 7-7.5 million per season
  19. 7 m aav seems like the magic number. The biggest fear I’d have if I’m GMJB is doing a medium length term (4 or 5 years). A 5 year term walks brock straight to UFA where the nucks lose all control and leverage. We’re talking Jeff skinner kinda money, but adjust for cap increase. If the cap goes up to somewhere between $90-95 million, then the Canucks are looking at 10-10.5 million to resign brock on his next deal. 4 years is pretty much the same story, as he will have arb rights and be offersheet eligible, so all he has to do is sign a 1 year QO at 7 million (or more, depending on how the contract is structured) and again he is walked straight to UFA unless the Canucks pay him what will likely be $10 million a season. best outcome for the team is a 7 or 8 year deal at around 7ish aav, but I think a 3 year deal is also something that should be explored. In 3 years, eriksson, Roussell, beagle, and lion go all come off the books. That’s 15 million right there in available cap space. On top of that, the Canucks still have a decent amount of leverage at that point in his Career, and it will be easier to avoid walking him to UFA. If brock signs a 3 year $5.5 or 6 million aav contract this season, then the Canucks have plenty of cap flexibility over the next 3 years and will have enough money to pay him an 8-9 million dollar long term deal on his next contract. This benefits the Canucks both in the short term and Long term, while still giving brock the opportunity to earn a big payday in his prime.
  20. I’m old enough to remember when Bo Horvat was -30 one season. On top of that, he’s never had a season where he wasn’t a minus player! His plus minus stats have always been awful. I don’t see Horvat landing anywhere.
  21. Personally I’d rather do a 3x7 than a 4x7 but I understand that’s easier said than done. But just the way the other contracts in the team are structured, I think a 3 years deal benefits both sides. Boeser could get a 7 year x 10 million per year after a 3 year expires if he gets 40 goals one year. And the Canucks have 12 million coming off the books in eriksson, Roussell and Beagle that season, so they could easily afford to do it
  22. Some pretty nice goals in this package...
