  1. I see still the New York Rangers as a possible trade partner for the Canucks. Trade Horvat to the Rangers for Braden Schneider + 2nd round pick. If Rangers continue to play the way they have been playing so far their management will get enough pressure from the fanbase to make a trade.
  2. Mykheyev isn't a completely unnecessary player because of his ability to kill penalties and his speed. Canucks PK last season was disastrous. I fully understand that they brought in two PK specialists in Lazar and Mykheyev. I don't get the addition of Kuzmenko because he's just another undersized skill player. Canucks would have been smart if they had used the dollars for Nathan Beaulieu. That's exactly the type of D-Man this team needs with his experience and physicality. Sometimes fans are smarter than VP Hockey Ops and GM's.
  3. I think this is a question that should be addressed directly to ownership. It's ultimately their decision what direction this franchise should take. At the end of the day hockey in north america is a business. What's the reason Aquillini fired Linden and promoted Jim Benning? The answer is Jim Benning favoured a retool on the fly whereas Linden was fully committed to a full rebuild. In the end Aquillini doesn't want to lose money with empty seats during a long and painful rebuild.
  4. When you take a look at the two carolina goals early in the 3rd period you have to come to the conclusion that the bad habits are still present in the Canucks game, especially in the D-Zone. The bleeding won't end until they fix this issue.
  5. contrast couldn't be any bigger comparing these two statements. Just confirms my perceptions of the personalty of both players. One player is a leader and the other player isn't.
  6. yup this franchise needs another goal scoring winger like Lekkerimäki more desperately than a top 4 D-Man. To the defence of Patrik Allvin they at least the best player available at #10. Trading down and grabbing Bichsel would have been the better choice.
  7. I really can't understand that it was ownership that hired Bruce. Under normal circumstances the president of hockey operations is in charge of selecting and hiring a new headcoach. I find it weird that ownership hired Bruce before they brought in Jim Rutherford. The proper sequence would have been to fire Jim Benning first and then let the successor of Jim Benning select and hire a headcoach. I also watched the interview with Jim Rutherford and I got the impression that he would like to have another headcoach for the Canucks. At the end of the day they have no other chance but to go for a retool on the fly with all the high draft picks that were traded away. Most interesting message from Jim was that their hands are tied. They really wanted to make big changes but the market didn't allow them to act.
  8. Miller's not the problem. How is it possible that the captain of this team doesn't show up in the home opener? Horvat was quiet the whole game. That's not the effort and passion you would expect from a captain.
  9. The fans sent a message to the team yesterday. Not sure if it's necessary for the management team to send another message to the team.
  10. ahead of a trade of such a magnitude you have to take a moment and think about 1. cap implications 2. pieces that are already on the roster The blockbuster trade with the Arizona Coyotes didn't make any sense for Canucks. When you have a player like Quinn Hughes that plays on the PP and is eating lots of minutes on the left side there is absolutely no need to bring in a player like OEL. What Canucks desperately needed was a solid Top 4 stay at home D-Man who plays a physical game and kills penalties. Physical stay at home D-Man for the left side would have been fully sufficient. Benning and team should have known that re-signing Hughes would come at a high cap hit - beyond 7M $. From a cap perspective it makes zero sense to add another D-Man for the left side which comes at a cap hit north of 7M $. When you spend around 14 M $ for two D-Men on the left side you are lacking cap space to address other positions on the roster. To Garland: you get a goal scoring winger that brings similar qualities to the ice in free agency. Garland lacks 1. speed 2. size 3. physicality 4. can't kill penalties 5 can't play overtime due to his slowness. I labelled this trade as "worst trade in Canucks history" once the trade was announced. It turns out to be the right assessment.
  11. Thanks so much for speaking out the truth. Lack of leadership combined with a lack of playmaking on the ice is a terrible combination. I am kind of shocked to see a third line featuring Pearson - Horvat - Boeser in the season home opener and no production at all from this line.
  12. Dylan Guenther selected # 9 overall with the 1st round pick Canucks traded to Arizona is putting up ridicoulous numbers :
  13. bigger issue is the long term contract for our NUMBER ONE Defenceman OEL and the remaining 2 years of Myers contract. Both players are unmoveable.
  14. Fixable issues: 1. engage mental coaches for players who are mentally weak / then make sure that mental coaches work with the whole team to establish a winning culture 2. engage a mediator to resolve the friction between star players 3. engage an assistant coach with a proven track record to implement a defensive structure
  15. Rasmus Dahlin: # 1 overall Owen Power # 1 overall Dylan Cozens: # 7 overall Jack Quinn # 8 overall Casey Mittelstadt # 8 overall JJ Peterka # 34 overall M. Samuelsson # 32 overall Buffalo has been keeping their high draft picks and it seems like they finally get rewarded for their strategy.
  16. Garland makes $ 4.950.000 a year he should be able to kill penalties and play overtime.
  17. yes, but this firing won't solve the numerous issues this team has. Doesn't matter what Headcoach the Canucks bring in after Bruce Boudreau. None of them will be able to coach this Blueline. The following is a quote from Rachel Doerrie. Rachel is one of the brightest women. Great to see the smile on her face again. Back in November she also said “Scotty Bowman couldn’t coach that blue line,” in reference to the Canucks defence outside of Quinn Hughes.
  18. Let's assume that Cohen is right and there is fricition between some star players and the rest of the team. Sadly this has already been an issue last season and I assume Bruce is aware of the atmosphere in the locker room. As a headcoach you have to do something about it. Let's take the Edmonton Oilers as an example: they spent a whole day for a teambuilding event ahead of the game in Abbotsford. Bruce has to take action to resolve this matter. LEt's start with 1:1 meetings with his star players and than continue with 1:1 talks between the star players. I would prefer to trade player X right away to resolve this issue.
  19. adjusting a system needs time and a lot of practice. Therefore I would have expected that Bruce sending his NHL roster to the ice for at least 4 pre-season games to practice the adjusted system. Same with PP units and PK units. If you are a smart headcoach you give your special teams enough ice time during the preseason to get the special teams going.
  20. It's not about the frame or the physicality. It's more important to have the right mentality. When you go out there as a player wearing a Canucks jersey I expect from each player to give 100% and not 80%. When you don't play with full effort you are going to lose important puck battles. The following quote from Horvat is quite telling : Horvat: “Everybody in this room knows we can be better and everybody’s got a little bit more to give. I think we can help each other get going.”
  21. excellent post again. Bruce Boudreau stating the main issue with this team in his post game interview with the media:
  22. Bo's agent Pat Morris would disagree with your assessment of Horvat. Pat Morris, the agent for Vancouver Canucks Bo Horvat when asked about the Sean Couturier comparable at seven years and $7 million and how stories/reports get leaked out. “That happens. I keep, for my clients on their instructions, I keep their business private. Center ice men, number one center ice men who, I believe Bo is a number one center. Every team to win has to have three great centers. Four great centers. Bo is 1/1A, whatever teams perceive him to be. Very hard to get center ice men. Plays like a 3C but is believed to be a number one center. Comedy.
  23. watch the sequence ahead of Mc David's goal which gave the Oilers the 4:3 lead again and then tell me how good of a player Pearson is. Pearson doesn't belong to the top 6.
  24. Increase in inflation beginning in early 2021 and now culminating at more than 10% is brutal. Absolutely brutal.
