  1. I see a few things right. 1. Team underperformed this year for several reasons. Petey, Green. Etc. 2. Young player development. Pods, hogs, Quinn, Petey. Emergence of Demko. 3. Dropping Hamonic and Swapping In Dermott was positive 4. Dumping a player that didn't work in the plan like Motte (third smurf and small guy on the 4th line who wants 3rd line money) was a good use of cap and assets if only minor. 5. Signing Spencer Knight was smart if he is Demko's backup and Dipietro and Silovs are let develop. This was a first and done playoff team this year that gets a non playoff team pick. And should continue to improve, maybe even challenge for the division if we get a few more smart moves.
  2. Personally I was in the "fire green and hire gallant" group a year ago. But we got my second choice behind the bench now and I hope he gets another year. We need to get tougher and harder to play against. Hughes or Dermott needs to play the right side. Poolman needs to go. Rathbone needs a shot. Pods and Hogs need a year or two. Lockwood too. Petey needs a healthy strength summer. Allvin and Rutherford need to make their mark. Wonder if Scottie Walker takes over as coach in time? We would be a 100 point team with an NHL coach all year. We are not far off. But we are not there yet either.
  3. Any news on how Highmore is? That should have been a penalty and a suspension.
  4. As a fan I thought Hamonic looked slow and usually going the wrong way this year amd was happy to see him gone. I do hope this is addition by subtraction.
  5. Reading a few things today about the contenders for the cup this year. One of the articles was making a lot out of Florida lacking veteran leadership depth and being poor in the face-off circle. This got my mind to wondering if there was a hockey trade to be made here. What would you guys think about JT Miller for Sam Reinhardt? We get younger and get a winger/center back for Miller Florida in exchange gets a guy who can win a draw and provide veteran leadership. Both are PPG type players.
  6. I notice Winnipeg is a little left wing heavy and I perceive we are right wing heavy. My perception is that Winnipeg was not too happy with the effect on the team from Dubois/Laine trade. Wonder is we could use that to our advantage and flip the more Laine like RW in Boeser for the LW/C more gritty player in Dubois? Maybe add Poolman to the deal to sweeten it (pretty sure most of us would like to see the end of the Poolman experiment). I would really like it if we could do something like that and get a more primary threat player in return for Boeser.
  7. Boeser is a tertiary player. Miller is a primary player. The issue I see if you are choosing who to keep is a tertiary player will net a tertiary player while I primary player will get three assets. Miller better here. Miller better trade chip. Now can you trade boeser for someone who will be a secondary or primary piece?
  8. I would like to see them get moving on the rework myself. Lots of rumors and more teams are in the running now than will be in a few weeks. Also several layers of moves we need to do and anxiety but some of us that we will kove the right direction
  9. I am curious what the new management group does to change the team. What I am sure of is that bigger and stronger is one element we need on the forward lines. But I wonder if....... 1. Is trading Hughes and building the defence from OEL instead something they are considering. Would Hughes not be a blockbuster trade chip? Remember the defence pieces Rutherford coveted in Pittsburg. Jack Johnson, Gudbranson etc. 2. Who are they coveting for forward help? What type of player do they want to add? If running a 4 lines relentless attack like Florida or Carolina the goal? 3. Is Dipietro on the block? Are we looking for another Markstrom/Demko clone (Silovs) as the next in line? 4. Is Rathbone a trade chip? These are my thoughts.
  10. If Halak can't keep them close, why is he in there? First goal he pretty much scored on himself instead of batting away. Yes the other two were deflections but gotta get one of those. 3 in 31 seconds just can't happen.
  11. The issue is not the core is bad. But the core is one dimensional and lacks several elements. 1. Strength. 2. Speed 3. Depth of elite players. And these players need to understand that Hughes is 1 of 4 needed elite defenders and Petey is one of 9 elite forwards. Those two might get traded away just because of elite wage expectations.
  12. At his age is Miller not currently peaked and looking at mostly downhill years? Dealing him for a couple players that show a good chance to be developing and are likely to be as valuable as Miller is now in three years seems to be a win/win to me. You need to give to get. And Miller caps Horvats development on the ice and in the room. At the same time we 3 potential super pests (Motte garland and hogs) does one not need to go in exchange for more a power player type? We need to get harder to play against.
  13. We need to start to migrate to a team that in two or three years will be big, strong on the puck, fast, talented and peaking. We probably need to turn over half the roster to be built right. Sell high/buy talent low and develop players. Florida picked up Duclair, Bennett and Reinhardt over the last year and play all three in their core forwards. Duclair was a fringe player with talent, Bennett was underperforming and unmotivated, Reinhardt showed talent on a bad team. All are awesome in Florida. The Canucks have core pieces. But lack the correct fillers and Green and Benning let some of those type of players slip through their fingers. Hopefully this changes now and we start to build the correct pieces. We need end up similar to Florida or Carolina. A lot of changes are coming.
  14. I would like to see them try Highmore and Motte on scoring lines. They each seem to cause so many turnovers and chances. Why do I think the team would be better if they played with guys who could put the puck in the net. Highmore Miller Boeser Motte Horvat Garland Dickenson Petey Hoglander Pearson Lamikko Podkolzin I think all 4 those lines can turn pucks over, defend, drive play, and score.
  15. You need 96 points or so to make the playoffs. Plus 14 or so. We are even at about halfway now. Basically need to win 2 of every 3 from here to have a chance. Could we? Maybe.
  16. If we trade Miller I am not looking for a first and a third and Chytil though. Miller for Lafreniere and Schneider? That sounds more like what I would do.
  17. Seeing talk that the Rangers are interested in acquiring Miller. Talk of several high end pieces. Dumping our top offensive player would not be so much the concept here. But getting younger and extending the window of the group might be a good idea. The Rangers have some interesting pieces. Seeing draft picks being the core of the proposals. I would think developing players would more be our ask.
  18. Could totally be 4-0 already. Now we see if we can respond and get it together. Florida is just faster amd executing better. Can we match and exceed?
  19. Not sure Kane is or is not a good deal. I am sure that the Canucks could use a hard hitting agressive goal scorer though.
  20. I think we need two things. Someone that can crash and bang, do puck recovery and add strength on the puck. I know this was Virtanens spot. Maybe Pods can fill into this roll. Maybe Bailey. Maybe we need to acquire someone. One more guy that can play center or wing. A scoring playmaker type. Does McCann fill the bill here? Rutherford would know him, he fits the window and fits the bill could be reasonable to acquire and reasonable to sign. I know some will say RHD. But Woo is coming. Hughes can play right side and I would like to see him tried with OEL. And we have been playing 4 RHD at times this year. Think whatever happens at RHD is done internally first.
  21. It is just great to be excited to see the Canucks play again. This change should have happened sooner but it is the correct change. Bruce! There it is! Keep the confidence. Eventually the win streak will get broken but the confidence will stay and we are team that should compete every night again. Go Canucks Go.
