  1. Oh of course the only Canuck news we get out of Toronto Sports Network is negative news. Great job projecting our problems (not as bad as theirs) while not mentioning what the cap hell are they going to do... typical TSN. Can’t wait to see the headlines next week about a Mitch Marner offer sheet dilemma. But then again they will probably change the subject and spam the site with “KAWHI STAYS”. Selective reporting at its best.
  2. I want to take a moment away from the recapture penalty that we will have to take on for the next 3 years. And give thanks to the best goalie this franchise has ever had. This video always hits me right in the feels every time I watch it.
  3. I guess there wasn’t any room left on Robida island for poor Lu! Hossa,Prongs,Callahan all sitting pretty on the beach. Joffrey Lupul was not in good shape to play and his contract gets swept under as well. Only the Canucks that get the punishment. No wonder why they labeled the rule the “Luongo rule”, it’s a good thing we have cap space, won’t get all the FA shopping that we were hoping for. Perhaps a blessing in disguise. That said about the present, I will and hopefully all long time Canucks fans will always remember the past and what a great goalie Lu was for this franchise. He got us to one game of winning it all, won the country gold in his adopted city and broke numerous records for this team. Those are memories he gave us and I am forever grateful that he gave us those. WE LOVE LU! Now and forever!
  4. Exactly, I will go on record that I am pro Benning, but I’m not pro AF. I don’t blame Jim at all for the the Miller trade and spending our future cap structure this off season. He is trying to keep his job and keep his boss happy. That being said, I don’t think it was up to him to trade futures for immediate help. No question we have built up our forward corps and our crease is as deep as it’s ever been with three potential starting goalies in Marky,Demko and MDP. But we just don’t have the depth on defense to compete for a cup, and spending it in free agency will cause problems in the future to add more pieces once our core hits their prime and needs their deserved raises. I love our scouting staff and I hope they continue to build up our blueline, but we aren’t there yet but ownership thinks otherwise. I really hope Jim and Judd stick around and finish their blueprint on this team. Not to be rushed and pushed out by impatient ownership. The goal for us fans is to witness this team hoist that elusive cup, I’m all for doing it the right way. We must be patient a little longer rather then being irrational with “just making the playoffs” I hope that I am wrong and we have enough horses in the stable to win the horse race, we will see if we cut corners or making the right moves at the right time. Again I am pro Benning but ownership needs to lay off the meddling of fast tracking this rebuild. Cheers and Go Canucks Go!
  5. Brock is not qualified and cannot be offersheeted and doesn’t hold arbitration rights so it’s not a problem. End thread/
  6. You’re probably right that we can’t get Stralman for only 2 years as he will be one of the few decent D man on the free market. We won’t really know what term he would get. Two years only is wishful thinking, until the first few weeks of July come and go to see what’s left at the bargain bin, I doubt Stralman will be this years Cody Franson. As @48MPHSlapShot has already pointed out, we can take the David Clarkson contract from Vegas for cap relief in return for Millers services. We have cap space that other teams don’t have the luxury of. One year of LTIR clarkson and 3 years of 3.85 Colin Miller sounds good to me.
  7. Can’t agree more, it wasn’t even a year ago that we were told by ownership to preach patience and a rebuild is a slow and gradual process. These tweets look pretty dumb now, fans aren’t stupid. We want to be better and competitive for a long time, not a short time. A few playoff dates is not the same as a cup victory. If playoffs are the goal then this signing will help, when our Woos,Hughes and other D need to get signed, this will cause big problems with our cap. Before any jump on me and ask what I would do instead of $!€%#ing about it. I would do some shrewd free agent deals like a Stralman for 2X5 and a Jordie Benn for 3.5X2-3 also make a deal with Vegas for Colin Miller as they are now really over the cap (by 8 million I believe) so it wouldn’t take much to take him on. Sure none of these guys really move the needle but neither does Myers. Just a bit more short term pain for long term gain. But unfortunately it looks like the short term pain ship has sailed on Saturday and Jim is going all in to save his job and not this teams cap structure a few years down the line.
  8. I could have sworn last summer when Trevor stepped down that Francesco tweeted out how Jim and Travis would continue the rebuild and then sent out another tweet that said how the rebuild is a long and patient process. So I dug them up and to my surprise (not really as it was Trevor being the patient one all along), his tune on the rebuild has changed as we traded futures for help right now and about to go on a cap spending spree on July 1. I’ll always be a Canucks fan and I do want the best for this team, but I’m no sheep fan who doesn’t forget what was said not even a year ago. I don’t blame Jim as he’s just doing what will save his job but as the owner of the team telling the fans to be patient and then seeing the moves being done this off season... the message being said is not the action that’s being done right now.
  9. We need D help ASAP but to overpay and then have a long lasting anchor when we do need the cap space in 2-3 years. It may or may not be Jim’s problem in that time but the next GM to have to worry about. As fans we are still going to be here then, but we will be in a tough position. The new GM may have to trade a first like Toronto did to get rid of that contract. I’m not saying that this is what will happen, but it could happen. Bottom line is I’d rather take a 3 year, 9 million dollar 50 point D man in Subban then a 7X7 31 point defenseman in Myers. Not a fan of this but looks like it’ll happen. In two years when EP and QH need to reup this will be an issue. I hope other fans can see this.
  10. While I do believe we are going to be a playoff team next year with Miller on board. I feel that those tweets from Francesco Aquilini last summer about preaching patience was a ruse. As a year later we traded a prime asset for a fix right now. That goes against what his tweets said at this time last year. I think we can say now with conviction that it was Trevor who was calling for patience, not Francesco. Will we be a playoff team next year or the year after, yes we will. A cup contender or a cup favorite? Not in my eyes. But other kids are coming so I have to keep the faith that we will have the depth to win it after a few learning experiences in the playoffs.
  11. https://mobile.twitter.com/reporterchris/status/1142466497039626240?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet Wow canes got a conditional 2020 1st rounder from the leafs to Carolina for a 6th rounder And Patrick Marleau. Damn I would’ve taken that cap dump for a first.
  12. Some gems to be dug up today boys and girls. Bring on the sleeper picks and under dogs. Hope whoever else is here has a good time!
  13. First round is always around 5pm for both ratings and getting as many tickets sold as possible. A morning slot on a Friday when most people work from morning to mid noon on a weekday wouldn’t be as good of a viewership and turnout. The rounds 2-7 start on Saturday morning and I’ll be there bright and early to see those underdogs and sleeper picks.
  14. He was a player I thought we could take on (with some Kal Foote or draft pick sweetener) for only a year. Now him and Hossa are chilling on a beach on Robida island. Must be nice... Just waiting for the league to punish us when Luongo retires, it’ll happen to us because the league in the 2012/2013 lockout named that loophole the “Luongo rule”
  15. The calm before the storm tomorrow. Gave the lucky Irishman Pat a pat for good luck with getting our future pieces tomorrow and the next two days
  16. Just maybe the hiring will be so that Peter can bridge the gap between Jim and Louie and little things will stop ghosting Jimbo!
  17. As many on here have also said. I’m cool with Mike Hoffman but I’m not cool with Mad Monika coming with him to stir up trouble. We have a great locker room, let’s keep it that way.
  18. This is false and not correct at all. Louie does not have a NMC while Lucic does. It’s not a fair swap as you say it would be. Edmonton would have to give us something extremely palatable to take a contract with protection. As of right now Canucks have no players with NMC and are in a great position with the ED in a few years.

  20. Happy for Eagle, Amanda and their family for being able to find a deal to keep them in Vancouver for the rest of his career. CDC is happy that you are back Eddy!
