You weren’t just sprouting a simple fact. You posted that to taunt those that supported Benning. You were happy that the Canucks were losing at the time since Benning was the GM.

What was it that you said?  To the victor goes the spoils?  You don’t deserve to follow the Canucks as far as I’m concerned. Ditto for your boys at HF.

Just wondering if it would be better to call you Kraken25 or Horvat25 (although I’d feel bad about insulting the real Bo Horvat like that).

The other day, you gloated that the Kraken had now moved ahead of the Canucks in the standings.  Fast forward two weeks later, not only have the Canucks moved ahead of the Kraken, but you are now masquerading as a little fan boy Canucks bitch.

      Sad!

ps - so how does this work exactly?  Benning brought it Miller, Pettersson, Boeser, Hoglander, Garland, Podkolzin, Hughes, Lammiko, et al.   Pretty much everyone except Horvat.   So when you cheer the Canucks, do you just cheer on Horvat?  Just curious as to how this works.

No!  My team has won 7 of their last 8 games. I'm excited about our future.

Dare I say, my team is outperforming your Seattle Kraken right now?

Be sure to thank Benning when you see Demko's next Vezina calibre performance.  :-p@kanucks25.

May not be the worst thing in the world for us to get a bit of a break and get our defence healthy.

If the Canucks are for real, they wouldn't let a slight break ruin their momentum.

  8. Green didn't trust his team.

    1. Patel Bure

      Patel Bure

I'm not sure if it was about trust, but rather, Green put too much stock in how we performed in the final 3 games against Vegas during the bubble (i.e. collapsing, giving up possession for superior positional play, trying to win on breakouts). In reality, it was Demko's 5 star performance that played a much bigger factor for us during that stretch.

Green's conservative system not only stifled the creativity of our offensive players (i.e. Petey, Brock, Nate Schmidt, and OEL), but likely also contributed to Jake Virtanen falling off a cliff.

Green is a good guy but just isn't an NHL calibre coach.

Although I was a fan of Benning throughout his entire tenure and supported most of his moves, his loyalty to Green was inexcusable.......and Benning needed to be fired as a result.

How do you like dem apples?

The BenningBuilt team has won 7 of their last 8 thanks to Bruce Boudreau.

I love the Lebron violin Gif from earlier in this thread.  Mind posting it again?  :-p

Leafs have been a very good team for years now but I still stand by my original diagnosis of them when they signed Tavares:  They are the 2010-2015 Penguins.  They will always be a good team, and probably will make it out of the 1st round at some point, but they'll always be a bridesmaid.  Why?  Because - they have too much cap allocated towards their top players and are a top heavy team as a result.  They won't have the necessary goaltending and defensive depth come playoff time.

      Carlo - absolutely!

Im not sure about Marino though.  Yes he’s an RHD but he’s a small PMD.  Do we really need another one of those?

Personally, I like Braden Schneider.  Move one of Boeser or Miller for Schneider at the deadline if we are out of playoff contention.

  12. Can we please cut out the Bruce chants now that he's said he doesn't like them?

    1. Patel Bure

      Patel Bure

I might have to disagree on this one.  The "Bruce there it is!" chants has lead to a lot of positive energy amongst the fans at games and I'm sure that this energy rubs off on the team during the games.

I say keep the chants coming loud and proud.

Aqua isn't pissed.  He's just pointing out the irony.  He has a point.

It's the moronic Canucks media and a few select inbred fans that are at fault.

      Aqua is 100% correct here.

Rutherford will speak to the media and mentor the new GM while Stan Smyl will go back to giving lap dances to Francesco and Luigi.

Fair enough.  Dahlen also stunk in San Jose’s farm initially before heading back to Europe to rediscover his game.

      @Ghostsof1915,

Agreed that Benning was too loyal to Green, but which of these 'waiver fodder' that we let walk turned into significant players on other teams' rosters?  It's still relatively earlier, but guys like Lind, Gadjovich, and MacEwen have done nothing on their new clubs.  Remember how the estrogen levels hit the roof when we let Frank Corrado walk?  Who?!  Exactly.

Now - if you're talking about players that we traded away and/or let go, then that a different ball game. I too am upset that guys like Jarred McCann, Jonathan Dahlen, and Gustav Forsling are thriving on other teams.  Dahlen's departure and subsequent success in San Jose might be an indication that our farm system isn't ideal to developing young players outside of goaltending.

Moving McCann and Forsling are indicators that our pro scouting was likely sub-par, and since Benning is directly involved in pro scouting, that's on him.

    1. Patel Bure

      Patel Bure

@Wilbur - can you please list these bad decisions?

      1) Markstrom had to go because his body was starting to break down a bit and he didn't look like a guy that would age well as far as offering him 6x6 went.

      2) Ditto for Tanev.  Offering that kind of term for Tanev was risky given his injury history.

      3) Tyler Toffoli, I'll give you that one.  I think the Canucks could have and should have been able to make that work, and proceeding forward with Virtanen (a guy who showed up out of shape to the bubble) was a mistake.  Perhaps buying out Virtanen right after the bubble would have been the way to go.

      4) Braden Holtby - I know people see this signing as a mistake but in theory, it was the correct move to make since the Canucks needed a '1B' goalie to help insulate Demko......who was in transition to the #1 spot.  Yes, Demko had an amazing bubble, but the Canucks couldn't risk just throwing him out there as the #1.  What if 'bubble Demko' was just a hot streak?   In theory, offering '1B' Holtby a 2 year deal was the correct move to make.

      5) Nate Schmidt for a 3rd.   Schmidt had been an excellent defender up to this point and so landing Schmidt for a 3rd rounder was highway robbery.  How was it Benning's fault that Green didn't know how to properly utilize Schmidt?  Notice how Schmidt is playing extremely well in Winnipeg again?

      6) Signing Hamonic for pennies on the dollar.   Bad?

So yes - outside of letting Toffoli walk, I think Benning made some very good moves post 2020 bubble.  Why these moves didn't work out perplexed me at the time, but it now seems that coaching was the main issue.  Outside of the Toffoli signing, it would seem that Benning's only true fault was that he was too loyal to Green.

p.s. - As far as Markstrom, Toffoli, and Tanev collectively go, I do admit that our "transitional" contracts from years past (i.e. Sutter, Beagle, Roussel, etc.) would catch up with us at some point and so 2020-2021 ended up being that season.

But even with that being said, who would you rather have when you take age, term, and cap hits into consideration, as well as taking into account the age of our core?

      A) Markstrom, Tanev, Toffoli?

      B-) Demko, Hamonic, Garland?
