Lol take your chances @Odd. She'll smack you across the back with a broomstick with a motion and velocity that'll make Ovie/ Matthews' shots look slow and weak by comparison :frantic:

  5. Dick Van Dyke’s name is too offensive. He should change it to Richard Van Lesbian.

  6. I'm thinking about going up to Vancouver for the day, but have not decided which day. How's Downtown Vancouver these days? Should I go or stay away? I want to try out my Enhanced ID.

Nice, coming up for Saturday Brilac?  Have plans already also but hopefully another time (heading down to catch the Mariners game on the 26th!)

  10. What is worse? Dog days of summer and no Canuck/hockey news or the Canucks struggling to succeed during the season?

      Phil_314

Summer's beautiful outside, can easily live without hockey (and can talk about it in anticipation).
      Actual losing sucks.

  11. So. Any predictions where Connor Bedard will finish this year? I'm going to be massively conservative and say 50-60 Points. Anything above that is gravy. It's quite the jump from WHL to NHL. I'm not saying he isn't super talented. But you got to learn the ropes in the NHL.

    1. Phil_314

      Phil_314

Was initially going to say that that's too low given how other generational talents (McDavid, Crosby) finished point/ game or better, but I think they also had veteran help on the roster.  Bedard's pretty much got Hall, maybe Seth Jones/ Tyler Johnson/ Lukas Reichel/ Athanasiou(?) if you consider that a supporting cast.

Other #1 overall picks (Stamkos, Matthews, Tavares, Mackinnon, Hischier) ended up with around 50-65 points too.  Pat Kane had 72 in '08 but the rest of the dynasty was in place.  The anomaly that's Ovie's 1st season in 2005-06 (106 points in 81 games, 12.2% shooting percentage) does show that Bedard could really blow up (Alex's main help that year was a 57 point Dainius Zubrus), but (unless Bedard reallyyyyy finds his footing right away) I think you've found a good range for him.

Just for completeness sake, also looked into other shifty scorers (Robertson, Pastrnak, Kaprizov) and their 1st seasons:
      - JR: 51 GP, 17 G, 45 P
      - DP (first two seasons):
      46 GP, 10 G, 27 P
      51 GP, 15 G, 26 P
      - KK (as an older rookie):
      55 GP, 27 G, 51 P

So I think scoring a bunch is reasonable but unless they're older or a true phenom, it's probably unlikely that they'll score much more than a point per game (now I'm preparing myself for him to explode Ovie style).

  12. Would you rather have had Bergeron or Datsyuk on your team (2 of the best defensive forwards I've seen in my life time)?

    1. Phil_314

      Phil_314

Datsyuk's got Bergeron's defensive IQ but also add Pat Kane's ridiculous hands to do the things he did.  All the respect to PB who just retired, but just look at these glowing compliments e.g. from Brett Hull

@Ghostsof1915 I tested positive over the past weekend -_-
@Citizen Erased yeah I was really fatigued too, slept two full days then got better thankfully.
@Eddie ah I see; do you know how did they/ you recover it?  Food tastes so bland this week and I love food so really hoping it's not permanent.

  14. Remaining Free Agents Canucks should take flyers on:

    Nick Ritchie

    Tyler Motte

    Patrik Nemeth

    1. Phil_314

      Phil_314

PTO for Ritchie, but pass on Motte and Nemeth IMHO.  See if he could develop some consistency, but Motte's a bit too small (even though he's smart and a good defender) and I'd rather see what we have with Wolanin and let Hirose develop instead of blocking their ways to the NHL.  I think if the latter two would accept 2-way deals then sure, they would be good depth to stock up.

  15. Rumors of Pesce being on the market and Carolina needing forward help....

Canucks trade Boeser + Rathbone, 2025 3rd pick (if he resigns post 1 year contract).

Carolina gets a 60 pt guy in Boeser who has term (they have only have a few F with term)

We get a top 4dman who can play with Hughes , upgrade on Soucy/ Cole

    1. Phil_314

      Phil_314

Wouldn't they trade Pesce to SJ if it's rumored that they want EK65?  SJ could flip him for a major haul.

  17. Any recommendations for a good restaurant Jollof Rice in Vancouver?  Heard good things and would like to try it.

  18. Trade the 1st round pick, package it up with Brock who has more trade value now and get assets  back, the pick is 11th anyway, they can't keep wasting more prime years of Miller, Petey, Hughes, Demko and even Kuzmenko, they already wasted Horvats, gotta try to win a cup with this core in the next 2 to 3 seasons

    1. Phil_314

      Phil_314

I don't think we really need to package anything with Boeser, as "overpaid" as he is, he'd have value in the eyes of teams that want/ need to revamp their roster to stay competitive (e.g. Boeser to Pittsburgh for Rutta [slightly overpaid 3rd pair RHD], Hallander [C prospect in development] and a pick would replace Zucker well).

  21. who toughness on the pettersson/kuzmenko line?

who toughness on the miller/mikheyev line?

who defensive d-man to play with hughes?

who defensive d-man to play with hronek?

    who 3rd line center?

where to safe cap space 10 mil worth?

imo, we don't have these players on the team right now.

    1. Phil_314

      Phil_314

Joshua, Miller, Bear/ Schenn, uhh..., Raty?, Boeser/ Myers (after next year).

    2. (See 2 other replies to this status update)

  22. i'm trading miller, dries and a 4th round to washington for kuznetsov, iorio and a 2nd rounder. imo, a fairb trade.

    1. Phil_314

      Phil_314

By most accounts, Miller's improved lately, so even if there are fans that fear regression back to a lazy/ diva attitude and want to move him before his NMC kicks in, it still looks unlikely that it'll happen at this point.  The possibility of trading for a Russian does make it more likely that we trade for Kuznetsov (though he's not a Milstein client :P).

  23. Filip Hronek for a 1st. Deal. This guy 2 games in prematurely judging is worth it. I like it.

    1. Phil_314

      Phil_314

Yeah no worries; he's been good, played more minutes than even Hughes in one of the games from what I heard.  Could always use a stable RHD, which is a commodity.

  25. Demko is proof an all star tender can change a whole team. You need an all star goalie or a hot goalie to win a cup.

    1. Phil_314

      Phil_314

1000%.  Either one goalie holding the fort by standing on his head, or a strong defense in front of a good goalie (I'm not of the belief that you can score your way out of your team's defensive woes, unless you had Pittsburgh Penguins prime Crosby and Malkin, though Murray was pretty good during his run with them).
