  1. Not at all against the peaceful protest, IF the protesters truly care about the cause and aren't just ignorantly going due to herd mentality, or doing it for the Gram (which Vancouverites are often prone to do). Racism itself is a widespread, legitimate issue and the George Floyd situation is tragedy in what happened for sure. However, I think such passion, instead of letting it occupy your attention as a flavor of the day, should be channeled to address things that you can fix. Of course if you see a black person being discriminated against, speak up, but at the same time do so for any person (Asian/ indigenous/ middle Eastern/ senior/ disabled...). If you see anyone getting punched/ cussed at, speak up. I hope people don't just let their passions remain an indignation in your heart if you aren't going to actively fix anything that you can fix, and certainly don't just let it fizzle out and die as a passion only. Keyboard activism also only goes so far.
  2. I really hope no one who attended the protest yesterday had Covid. 10k attendance in close proximity with many people unmasked and cheering sure seems like a smart thing to do when all it takes is one asymptomatic person to cough, infect these Covidiots and spark a second wave. But if these sheeple are bright enough to protest an issue that doesn't actually personally impact them (besides maybe feeling sympathy and justified outrage on a whim for black Americans down south on a bored Sunday afternoon, and I understand why the African Canadians were there, don't get me wrong), why not deal with local issues instead of rushing to defend a cause that isn't yours? When have we had police brutality locally, when instead more covert racism against other peoples is still ongoing? Why did no one come out to address those issues? How were so many blind eyes turned and no rallying protests organized, when people were tripped up, spat at, disrespected and even told to go back to their home country as recently as last week? What about the defaced cultural artifacts, and where were the protests in solidarity against the ignorant, bigoted white minority of extremists who did such things? The irony in this sheep country is ridiculous. #ALLlivesMatter #RIPGeorgeFloyd
  3. Anyone have experience sliding in DM's?  If you're the slider but (besides your profile picture) your account is set to private (on IG), anyone have experience in nonchalantly raising the other person's interest through your chat?  (And yes I'm straight up asking, give flak if you'd like but also credit for being ballsy enough to shoot my shot)

@Cramarossa Is it weird if you sort of know the guy?  Right now it feels like people are conditioning guys to not approach girls and what not, because we come off as creeps.

@BoKnows For me it would depend on how I knew him. If he was a real friend then ironically it would make me uneasy...like was he pretending to be my friend this whole time when really what he wanted was to holler at me? A friend of a friend or an acquaintance is a good middle ground- someone I know but not so close that I'd question their intentions. Stranger is tough because it seems too risky.

Also, my personal feelings have changed as I've aged. I'm 30 now, and with hindsight can see that some guys I blew off as creeps in the past were probably well-meaning, just awkward or inexperienced. By that same token though my BS detector has been refined so I feel more confident in my own ability to weed out the bad apples. Also, after being burned plenty of times myself I have more of an appreciation for someone shooting their shot; now I know how hard that is to do without getting demoralized.

@Cramarossa regarding @BoKnows question, I would've thought that it's perceived as more weird if the guy and girl didn't know each other, due to potential thirst (not counting dating apps)?  I mean it makes sense that lurking creepers posing as friends would be off-putting, to put it mildly, but I guess in this day and age the whole organic "meet your s.o. through friends circle" narrative is only a thing of legends and fairy tales?  Also it would be uneasy if he suddenly felt different towards you (changing from friends to interest)?  Guess the friend-zone is alive and well

  4. Win's a win. Subjective awards will always have their haters regardless who wins
  5. What's wrong with it? I mean if teams played different amounts of games it doesn't make sense to either go points or points percentage as the determinant for entry because either way someone will complain. Division winners and a 4th entrant is reasonable I think since by most measurements these 4 would've made it (could be wrong, if I am someone prove it). Probably just for this year? I mean people keep throwing around "unprecedented" and definitely this would be a measure fresh out of the oven.
  6. It's too bad we don't have home ice advantage if we are a hub city (though no one really would for that matter if it's empty rinks). Also think that, unless a team like Washington can't get most of their guys back (e.g. if a team's Euros were all still stuck in their home countries with quarantine when the league decides to start the tourney) and they lost with whoever they had, then I'd put a big asterisk besides whoever was the winner. Other than that it should be legit.
  7. "Houston we have two problems..."
  8. Feel like this one could top the immortal Don Taylor... "it was saved with his right Khabby, or was that his left Bulin? ... or his tail?"
  9. I'm sure he meant the cat lol. He's a cross-breed, the next coming of Felix Potvin and Dominik Hasek. Can already hear John and John going "GREAT SAVE MEOWNUEL!!!"
  10. Wouldn't we just be repeating what we did with Spooner then (accumulating dead cap)? If someone would take him outright at the expense of one of our many wingers coming up that's not really a big loss (as long as it's not one of Hoglander/ Podkolzin/ Lind or another top prospect). I'd also frankly like to see Sven back, if only to build up his value and then decide whether we move him or Pearson. Seeing how well Tanner played on Bo's line though (he would've been a 55 point guy!), I'm not sure I see it happening esp. if we somehow miraculously manage to retain Toffoli too (less likely of course). You really don't just give up on that size, chemistry, two-way play and winning pedigree that Tanner brings so easily. Worst case scenario, we'd end up going back from Bo and Tanner and Brock to just Bo carrying crappy wingers again. Presuming what you said is the case, I could see the following and I'm not sure that's a championship winning lineup. Miller - Pete - Brock Sven - Bo - Ferland ($7 million worth of injury prone and damaged goods - Ferland's been out since November of last year) Roussel - Gaud - Jake Motte - Beagle - Sutter /MacEwen
  11. I wonder if he's fine with playing anywhere and earning his spot in the league, if he'd be down to get dealt to Jersey? Not like he has a clause. They don't really have any big contracts to re-sign besides Blackwood (RFA), but if he makes it in the top 6 he could pair with either Hischier/ Zajac/ Jack Hughes. Wonder if we could deal a decent but non-top prospect to sell him off.
  12. Have fun folks! Have another game and catch-up event going on then. Deb and Pete be nice to each other okay? (Not too nice though, still wanna hear savage stories of this game next time we play )
  13. I think we stand a pretty good chance against them. Dubnyk only went 12-15-2 while Stalock started most games. We probably have the upper hand in terms of depth of talent (their centers are mediocre behind Staal) and our wingers outscored theirs in the regular season. Their physicality might be an issue, though we have a bunch of tough guys ourselves and it'd probably be fairly even with everyone healthy. Their only advantage would probably be in the amount of vets who would probably pose a threat (Staal, Suter, Parise come to mind) and Markstrom would still need to stand tall among all the giants setting screens around him. Might go the distance but I see us still having the upper hand. Personally more excited for the next series vs the Avalanche, should be wide open skating and Hughes vs Makar.

Well he is 31. Not exactly a crazy young age to have kids.

@RRypien37 not crazy, though it's Ron Weasley.
It's like you don't expect the boy actor from Home Alone to be as old as he is...?

  16. Lol goes to show how ignorant each fan base is to other teams. Post about other teams' players has no related comments.
  17. Vrbata was like that too, besides with the Sedins that one year and some success in Colorado and Chicago way back when, in his later years he kept circling back to Arizona. Wonder if Boedker's wheels figuratively fell off, leading to his decline? Also interesting that people jumped straight to talking about Baertschi in this post
  18. So why do we need Getzlaf? Horvat's pretty bullish and strong himself and him and Pete should be getting the minutes, while I'm good with having Gaud feast on weaker lines and D pairs as the 3rd line guy. Why pay so much for a 3rd line center (unless we can offer some combo of overpriced vets in return)? Agreed that I'd probably be down for Manson though, brings that much needed toughness and he's cost controlled.
  19. For most of these it's not that they're total dead weights -- they're definitely needed role players, and I never suggested shedding all of them. The problem is that there's too many of the same guy (e.g. 4th line center in Sutter/ Beagle, gritty winger in Ferland/ Roussel) and they're viewed as being expensive as their roles as they have been supplanted by younger, faster and/ or more talented players on cheaper deals. At least from an efficiency perspective, it's not a good look to have so many overpriced cogs occupying lower positions (if there's no compliance buyout, we might have a $13 million 4th line) or not really doing their role as they were expected to (and I get it with injuries, but lack of durability is also not a good look).
  20. Always remember him for being the beneficiary of this play (RIP Patrik Stefan)
  21. Hope no one votes Cooke as the "top" of anything... as much as people say "teams want a guy like that and they hate playing against guys like that', unless you've actually done something great in your career other than be a pest, guys like him don't have a place on lists like this.
