  1. Looking at additional footage of Brady Keeper; he looks good. Bieksa-lite

      Great signing, he plays an old school physical style that we lack, can lay big hits. Probably just a NHL call up/7 Dman, but will be a fan favorite in Abbotsford.

      Play the Laffs, & he nails Matthews? Next day's paper:

      Keeper Creams Creeper!

      I don't get it. The dude has played such a small amount of games. There's obviously something to his game that I don't know about. Anyway, I'm not complaining.

  2. I'd compare Klimovich, at least at this point in his development, to Alexander Radulov. Coming over from Russia, or in Klimovich's case Belarus, and then playing in the QMJHL, and then dominating. Only time will really tell whether he pans out in the same way, but I'm hopeful. He's got a great foundation to build off of, skills-wise. Super raw, but the potential is definitely there. The guys at Dobber gave him an 8.5 for NHL certainty, or an 85% chance of making the NHL, which is nice. Upside looking good too at 7.0, which is just 0.5 less than Stankoven, who I had ranked in the top 10. Looking forward to seeing how Klimovich interviews and what his character is like. Gotta get guys who can help the Canucks build their winning culture.
  3. Hoping that Rafferty sticks around, but seems unlikely

      Not the type of RD we need.

      I'd sign him and trade him to Pittsburgh for Lafferty for the giggles.

      He’s a UFA. Probably gone

      Watch him go to Europe

  4. So, I've been out of town and away from my phone for these last couple days. Seeing the Canucks passed on Stankoven at 41 really reminds me of when they passed on Ehlers.

      He seemed to transition pretty easily to the NA ice at the U18’s.  Looks to me like he’s even better on the smaller ice.  Usually that’s true for guys with elite skills, who process quick.

      @S N Y P E R S 7 Would you say Klimovich is a good pick then, based on what you've seen?

      @Dazzle
      My guy, only time will tell. If I were picking there, my guy was Logan Stankoven. I would've taken Stankoven in the top 10.

      Klimovich is a solid pick, though, and I am admittedly excited to see where he goes career-wise from here. Just looking at where he's at in comparison to the guy I compare him to the most, Alexander Radulov, he's looking good. Both guys came over from Europe to play in the QMJHL (if things go right with Klimovich) and he has the potential to dominate the Q just as Radulov did.

      Only time will tell.

      I feel he's going to be a very underrated redemption project. It's probably by design that he didn't play a single game last year.

      I also agree with Dazzle that I think Bowey might turn things around here.  Hopefully, Brad Shaw can work his magic and revive Bowey.

  6. I don't think you can justifiably be all too high on anyone in this year's draft*, especially with a good majority of the draft-eligible players playing less than half a season (if any hockey at all). I think there will be a lot of really good players available in the late first round and beyond that never got a good look for the top 10 simply because they didn't play enough. *(Writers and scouchers can justifiably be high on other stuff though)
  7. The underlying question here is whether Jim Benning wants a job next year or not. If he wants a job, the Canucks would match it. If he wants to hang out with the jobless #firebenning guys outside the rink, he'll let Pettersson walk.
  8. To VAN: - Jordan Greenway - 2021 First Round Pick (#21) - 2021 First Round Pick (#25) To MIN: - Kole Lind (or Jonah Gadjovich) - 2021 First Round Pick (#9) My thought process here is that this year's draft is one of the most volatile there's ever been. There hasn't been enough time to scout out players and the sample size of actual scouting material to determine where players are at developmentally is just way too small. Both Minnesota and Vancouver are stuck wondering about who to protect, and two names that come up pretty often for both teams are Kole Lind and Jordan Greenway. Greenway would add a crucial element of size to the Canucks, and would be able to play up and down the lineup. Lind plays with pace and has the potential to be a top 6 forward for the Wild, whereas, with the Canucks, the right side of the future will likely be occupied by Boeser and Podkolzin. This is entirely hypothetical. Additionally, the Wild attain a top 10 pick, though it is in, arguably, the worst year to have a top 10 pick. The Canucks acquire the 21st and 25th picks, and have a chance at selecting guys like Logan Stankoven (personal favorite), Zach Dean (ridiculously fast player), Corson Ceulemans (top 4 D potential) or Xavier Bourgault.
  9. Honestly, in a perfect world, Pearson would be exposed. He would be another guy the Kraken have their eyes on, for sure. However, I believe there's something in his contract that stated he wouldn't be exposed to Seattle.
  10. Zach Dean has definitely caught my eye with his skating. So smooth and naturally speedy, all he needs to do is fine tune his offensive thought process. Just the little things. I feel like his mind is a step behind his actual footspeed. But if he's able to put the whole package together, he could be one of the most gifted skaters in this draft... Very, very fast.
  11. I see something really special in Stankoven. It's not every year a guy like that catches my eye. Like you said with Ehlers, I saw a little bit of Bure in him and a lot of skill and character. He hasn't exactly panned out that way, but he's a damn good player and one of the faces of their franchise. The way Stankoven gets around the ice with his short quick strides allows him to be elusive, and his head for the game is already elite. Elite hockey sense for a lack of a less generic term. Very, very smart player. Opportunistic goal scorer, too, and an NHL-ready release. The only knock on him is his size. Needless to say, he's my favorite player in this year's draft! I just fail to see any appeal Holtby would have to the Kraken. I grew up there near Seattle and Kent, and know a few people working in the sports media there. Used to be a big Sonics fan! Anyhow, the general consensus is that the Canucks are really kind of lacking in tantalizing options aside from Lind and Gadjovich, with MacEwen being a solid size option. Holtby needed to be better and more consistent this year to be worth considering... Now, if the Canucks are able to make a trade or some kind of deal to ensure the Kraken take Holtby, that's another story. But it seems unlikely.
  12. I feel like Guenther would be a great pick, especially if Lind does indeed get swept up in the Expansion Draft. I have this feeling that the Kraken will take up one of Lind, Gadjovich, or MacEwen. Guenther's an easy replacement, and if the cookie crumbles in that way, would be the best player available. I still want Stankoven though. Package up our second rounder with a prospect and move up late first to pick Stankoven lol.
  13. I don't usually do these, but I was bored. Also my partner at work left for the rest of the day, so I had some time to kill. :hydration: all around Here's my June mock draft lol. Honestly, Ottawa could use a bonafide #1 goalie, but would they go for Wallstedt?
  14. Yeah, no, that guy probably just looked at his prospects list and blurted out the first name he saw lol

      Drive-By Body Pierce

      Are you familiar with Allen Carr? He is a phenomenal resource for helping people rid themselves of addictions, including food. It takes just one book.

      And while I don't have personal experience with this, I have heard good things about Noom.

      Both focus on ways to remove or change psychological dependence.

      Double yum yum!  Mrs. Alf is frying up some fired chicken as I type.  And she’s whipping up some tasty potato salad too.  Like I started with, double yum yum!  :towel:

      Ooh yeah! Double yum! I'm always hungry! I could totally go for two dinners.  You know what, I am not one of the ones who have gained weight this year.  I lost weight.  Prior, I was eating at the restaurants and drinking wine or champagne, and when that stopped, I lost weight.

  18. Stankoven's hockey sense and awareness with and without the puck is next level. Super proactive player that competes hard and is willing to do the little things necessary to win. If he does go in the later rounds, he'll be a steal... snubbed, but a steal.
