Who Thinks Kesler's Best Days Are Behind Him? Say I!

Do you actually consider him a 2nd line center....... more like 1a, and another 1a becuase he's just that awsome :) . If you do consider him a 2nd line center..... then congrats, there is 1 better than Kesler to fill that role. Any more? Regardless of how many players you may think are better 2c's. There are not enough to disqualify Kesler as one of the best, if not the best 2c in the league.

I agree that Kesler would benefit greatly from a playmaking winger. Whitney and Tanguay examples of such. They do what the center would normally be most responsible for. Having a line structured like this can be beneficial, as it gives your offense some variety.

If Kesler is not going to be converted to wing, perhaps the answer lies in taking a playmaking center and converting him to wing. Has Schroeder been playing much wing? He may be small, but with 2 other forechecking beasts on the line in Kesler and Booth, he probably wouldn't need to be as involved in the board-play, and could hang back a bit to be in prime position to make plays.

I can see the OPs point....although he over exaggerated with it quiet a lot. I laughed at the part where he says Kesler could go down to the 3rd line this year, and then thinks we can get a superstar for him and Schroeder.....GMs are not dumb!

Sometimes players will have their career year before they reach that prime age.... just look around at some older players stats.... some players have some really good years, and then their point production dies off in that apparent prime age.... some players pick up their game during the prime age... everyone is different. So it is very possible he might not reach that 40+ goals/year, Selke winner, "beast mode" player again.

Keslers production has been worse because of injuries, not lack of effort. Once his injuries are gone, he will probably work his way back into the player he used to be. Although, he will have to start playing a bit on the safe side so that his injuries don't happen again... which could take away from his production. To say that he might drop to the 3rd line this year is laughable... there isn't any centermen on the Canucks that could play the 2nd line role better than him, even with his drop in production. Also, even if he doesn't go back to the player he was during his best year, he is still going to be a good player for us.

Its going to be an uphill battle for him again, guess we'll find out how much of a warrior he actually is.

People forget Kesler was the one who dragged us through the 2nd round of the playoffs against Nashville 2 years ago .... The guy is an absolute force, and still young. Why are we complaining when we have a 2nd line center who has potential to put up 40 goals?

because hockey is a team sport and being successful relies heavily on chemistry. having one player perform on your second line isn't good enough. it's called top 6 forwards, not top 4 and those 2 extra guys.

this is the nut of the issue. kesler contributes 2nd line production, no doubt, but he also actually makes his linemates worse. when almost every possession for his line ends in an embarrassing attempt at a toe drag and a wrist shot from the top of the faceoff circles which is either deflected easily out of play by a defenseman or shot directly into the goalie's crest, you're never going to have a consistently productive second line.

it worked when samuelsson was here because he controlled possession on that line more than kesler did.

i should add that in addition to being a selfish player or feeling like he has to do everything himself, this also happens due to kesler's lack of on-ice vision and puck smarts. the guy has the talent (not naturally, but worked at valiantly) to be a decent second line power winger who can do other things well, or the best third-line centre in the league. i really don't see him as a bonafide second-line centre, despite his production.
