hudson bay rules
He can ask for a trade all he wants. Preds don't have to do what Weber wants. After paying $27 million for 1 year worth of service no way the Preds trade him.
Bruce Boudreau
Wasn't expecting them to match. Maybe they did it to show their fans they are committed to being a contender so now it's up to Weber if he still wants out. If it's true he wants a NTC he will probably be sticking around Nashville for awhile.
Bruce Boudreau
Thanks a lot Philly... I hope you never win the Stanley Cup for the next 10 years...
Renelsisc
to FLA: Luongo, Raymond to VAN: Weber, Fla prospect, Fla 3rd to NASH: Van 1st 2013, Van 1st 2014, Fla 1st 2013, Tanev, Schroeder Think that would work?
The-Impersonator
My buddy in Nashville is a season ticket holder and the owners send them all a letter exclaiming the Shea offer match and wanting to win long term and showing off the fact they are a team that will pay the price and compete. Watermelons
Because you need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that Nashville will match the Flyers' offer right?
Tangerines
Good job Weber. You ruined your own career. If he had only waited one more year... Feel for him? Absolutely not. It was his own dumb mistake to sign that contract to begin with.

Barry_Wilkins
That's a lie. There was a good possibility that he was going to become a UFA and they would have had their chance than. Also the two teams were in trade talks, now Weber can't be traded for another year. Get real.
The Lock
WOAH Nahville got wealthy somehow. I have to laugh though, a deal like that would clearly imply Weber was trying to get away from Nashville. So the highest paid player is now on one of the lowest revenue teams...
RXnucks975
Unbelievable!! Just rebuild already, they could have just shopped the 4 first round picks for better players, or kept them and pulled a Pittsburg or Edmonton and build through the draft. I feel bad for Weber too, he obviously wanted out, now he's stuck for atleast another year if not more. He can always demand a trade but who would take that contract? oldnews
Predictable. Of course Nashville matched. Looks like those people whining that Gillis didn't make an effort were pretty off base. Weber was destined to stay in Nashville and the Preds held and still hold the cards. Sounds like Gillis' strategy was probably the best - but still would only have forced Nashville's hand by making Weber a UFA next year - and was undermined by Weber's urge to sign a contract before the new CBA - on top of that, it could have cost 4 firsts for one year of Weber if Nashville didn't match, took the picks, and Weber decided to sign elsewhere after a year as a UFA. All in all, an offer sheet was not going to work. Gillis was right.
OrrFour
I'm just glad we can move on and not hear as many unrealistic Weber proposals.
grandmaster
This situation in Nashville could get ugly really quick. Poile will probably give him the NTC to keep him happy. He's the face of their franchise.

Drybone
Shea will spend the next year in Nashville and if they get booted out of the first round or worse he will quietly ask for a trade.
