Jason Garrison so far?

Yup... Garrison sucks. More than 1/4 of the way through the season, and this guy has been nothing but absolute garbage.

His shot? Non-existent, and completely inaccurate.

His hits? What hits?

His defensive play? HORRIBLE.

So why did we sign him? WHY THE HELL does he make this kind of money? And we think Ballard is who we have to buy out this off-season?

Sorry to say, Garrison is a bust. J-Bo 2.0. Thank god for the quick fix that is buyouts.

Thanks for nothing, Garrison.

EDIT: oh, and PLAY SOME DISCIPLINED ****ING HOCKEY, DUDE!

I just had to drag this one up.

Garrison numbers prorated to an 82 game season....

14g (8.5 shooting percentage)

14a

28pts

+33

That's with a slow start due to no training camp or preseason to acclimate a new team and system. Not to mention less practice time during the season due to the condensed schedule.

I'm lmao at you shmo. Here hit this again....

I think he's been ok. He's no Salo, but he's ok.

He's no Salo now or Salo a few years ago? Because people seem to be complaining that Garrison isn't as good as Salo was at some point which is a pretty retarded argument unless someone failed to mention to me that we have time machines now. Salo was pretty garbage at times last year, had an accurate shot (though he's now got a worse shot percentage than Garrison because of all the shot blocking now), but was never all that physical. Garrison plays defense as soundly as Salo but is much more physically dominant and also has a bomb that's more dangerous and useful.

Garrison is easily one of the most important signings we've had.

Apart from the odd hiccup he seems to be improving. Interesting comment he apparently made. The difference in the system here to Florida is like comparing Kindergarten to University. Put's in perspective what AV is doing when compared to other coaches and teams. The problems seems like they're (other teams ) onto you AV

Sorry but is Florida the kindergarten or university in this analogy? What did he say btw? Link?

Everyone kept saying thew same thing over and over again. He will never reproduce those numbers he did in Florida, he was a one hit wonder, blah blah blah. Well, given the fact that there was no training camp, and he literally has been learning the system on the fly, I would say he easily could have out done his totals from last season. Especially when you consider the fact that he wasnt getting any PP time during the first half of the season.

He undoubtedly had some moments early on that made you wonder, but (as I said so many times before) he has been pretty damn good defensively, and that is much more important to this team than his point production.

The one knock I have on Garrison is his physicality. He's good along the boards and excellent with his defensive positioning and stick work, but I was expecting more hits. In his three full seasons with Florida (10.11 & 11.12) Garrison has averaged 131.5 hits a season. Over a full 82 game season Garrison would only have 68 hits this season. With his size I was hoping that he would be a fairly punishing defenseman. Hopefully he can increase his physicality during the playoffs.

What was his icetime in FLA compared to here?

Whaaaa??? You're right, he's no Salo, he isn't made of glass and he's already had a 16 goal season after 4 seasons. I'd take Garrison over Salo in a heartbeat. Salo was too damn fragile. Great D-man though, and an awesome guy.

I still would have gone for Allen's 12 year track record over Garrison's 2. Come to think of it, his skating isn't bad because it really isn't skating. It looks like he's running out there. I guess for me I would expect every d-man making over 4M to be excellent skaters.

Yeah, but over the last 5 years, Allen has averaged a goal and a half and 5 assists per season - also over that time he is a net minus player. He is on the downside of his career. Jason Garrison is still coming on in his career - last year he was the second best defensive D in the league and still scored 16 goals and seventeen assists. This year, with Edler hogging the prime power play time and providing very little production with it - Garrison is still on nearly a fifteen goal pace over a 82 game schedule. When you consider the lack of first unit PP time, that is actually an IMPROVEMENT over last year. In short, there is not even the most remote comparison between Allen and Garrison. There is hardly even a comparison between Edler and Garrison - Garrison is by far the superior defensive player and when you factor in the lack of PP time relative to Edler, it is easily seen that offensively he is Edler's match. As for earning his salary, the balance is by far in Garrison's favor. Especially when you consider that Hamhuis, a defensive specialist who hardly gets any PP time, has more points that Edler. As for Allen, how could you even entertain the thought that he is even remotely close to Garrison in performance.

Home games AV often matched the Sedins up against the oppositions top line. Road games they always faced to oppositions shutdown line.

I don't disagree with that, which is why I said they were matched against the oppositions third line (or checking line) whenever the opposition coach could. They didn't always face the oppositions checking line away - sometimes AV would get them away from the oppositions checking line - which is why there is often furious line-matching in the NHL - and sometimes the opposition would feel they had a better match than their checking line - like Perry and Getzlaff in Anaheim - where they would try to keep Getzlaff away from Kesler, and thought they could out-muscle the Sedins. Chicago, too, often went head to head with the Toews line against the Sedins.

garrison was picked up for his shot and to score goals. he has 8 in a shortened season already... i give him an A+. can't expect him just to show magic on a new team with new players and a new system... takes time to mold.....i actually am more impressed with the likes of tanev. the canucks miss him badly right now....

He scores unexpectedly - not sure whether that's a good thing or bad. So far on the PP he has been underwhelming, and overall he has been good enough for us. He still isn't playing at his cap hit, and needs to be better on the PP, but stat-wise he looks a good signing.

He's pretty decent in most aspects, a solid all-round D-man. I still think he's worth no more than 4M, though.

Our smoothest skater out there is Keith Ballard. That's about all he's best at on our d-line.

Garrison isn't an excellent skater, but he's an okay one. Everything else is pretty solid too. After half a season, he's finally found his spot on the team.

yea he's such a terrible skater. I guess he's good defensively and has a hard shot but so does Bryan Allen and he makes a million less.

Your credibility in LIFE went out the window when you compared Garrison to Allen and said you'd rather have Allen. Get a fackin clue kid

Garrison is SLOW. Of course, his biggest asset is his slap shot. He seems to learn to hit the net better in recent games, hope he continues. I am not sure if he can improve on his speed though.

Most of the Canucks games are on Sportsnet Pacific, but most Saturdays are on CBC. TSN also carries some games. You will need a TV and a service provider to watch these games. You could go to a bar, because most bars have TVs that could be manipulated to project Canucks games.
