GDT: Canucks @ Sharks (Game 3)

It's eerie how similar game 3 tonight is compared to game 3 against LA last year:

- Canucks had a poor game 1 in both series

- Canucks played better in game 2, but were not able to get the win. Couldn't get a bounce.

- Luongo started game 1 and 2, but Cory replaces him in game 3.

- Big, physical series.

- Canucks lost games 1 and 2 on the road, hit the road for game 3.

- Both game 3s occurred on Sunday.

Now, let's take a look how game 3 went down. CS gave the canucks a huge boost and they came out hard outshooting the Kings 2-1 despite significantly less PP time, but lost 1-0, took a bunch of penalties, Quick absolutely stood on his head, and the bounces all went against Vancouver. And remember, no Daniel Sedin in game 3 either.

Shots:

Van = 41

LA = 20

PIMs:

Van = 21

LA = 13

Will be really interesting to see if Van comes out the same way under almost identical circumstances. Hopefully we learn from our mistakes: Don't give the refs any reason to call stupid penalties, do get a boost from CS coming back, do generate more offense and a ton of good looks, hope for a bounce, and hope Niemi doesn't steal the show.

Best thing about game 3; Kesler has finally arrived after 2 years of injury induced hibernation. The Canucks have needed someone to pick the game up; I'm betting a few more players jump on his coat tails. I would seriously prefer to see Roy/Kesler/Burrows Kassian/Sedins and Schroeder/Hansen/Raymond with Lappy taking his reg (yes it should be regular) 4th line shift with Pinner/Weise plus dbl shifting to take Schroeder D zone draws. Then on D Ballard with Corrado to get some speed into getting the puck out of our end, but Bieksa back with Hamhuis and let Garrison play the right side with Edler. Sorry, having PC troubles on spacing...

Goal at 1:45:45

Okay, yeah I guess he didn't flop on his face on the GTG until after it was in the net. Still it was a soft goal that he should have had. The game never should have gone to OT in the first place. Any other $5M goalie in the league would have kept that one out in the final minute of a do or die playoff game.

This is the definition of a must-win game. Down 0-3 in a series is essentially series-over, no one comes back from that. 2-1 is a whole new game.

If Minnesota can win one against Chicag, then Vancouver can surely pull one out tonight.

2-1 final. The Sedins with a goal, Garrison with the other.
