Jordan Subban is a Canuck

If he plays mean, a few inches won't matter. Look at the difference between Ballard (5'11") and Edler (6'3"). Edler is scared of everyone whereas Ballard dropped the gloves with Perry, Backes, Fraser and Big Bert. Jordan Subban looks like he plays with more of an edge than some offensive d-men I've seen, if he does get a growth spurt, all the better.

Is everyone overlooking the fact that he scored 51 points this season, at 18 years of age? If he was 2 inches taller he would have been selected in the 1st round.

It's a fourth round pick, I for one am very happy to see what he can do!

Top of my head list and I could go searching for you but you can do that if you like.

The game is always changing and players get bigger, faster and stronger but good and even great NHL d men are not all tall in height .

Even if he is going to play in the NHL, as a D-man, it won't be for about 5 years. We all know they take more time to develop than forwards. With improved training, he will put on some weight, and as many of you have already said, he likely will grow a few inches as well.

Give the kid some time. I'd like to see what a skilled player who has grown up in the shadow of his bigger, older brothers can do. A nice chip on the shoulder can be a good piece of motivation.

I don't spend the time enough to know how good the other players available at the time are, but taking a flyer pick at this point, in someone that has a lot of skill, and might grow in to a "normal" sized D, is well worth it.

Chances are, there will be 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounders that outperform some of the 1st rounders. Does that make every GM an idiot for not drafting in the right order? Drafting your future players isn't science. You look at what you need, and what value there is to be had with the pick you have.

The whole draft is a crap-shoot. There are enough 1st round busts out there, even in NFL and NBA, to know there are no guarantees. You just do your best to scout out the right players for your team, work hard to develop them, and cross your fingers.

I'm just glad we have a potential high-skill player in the mix that we won't have to overpay for to get on the team.

Ok, so of all top scoring d men in the NHL, 20% are under 6 feet tall.

How many of those turned 18 years old a couple of months ago?

How many of those top scoring d men you listed grew one,two or three inches -or more-from the time they were 17 or 18 years old ?
