canucks#01fan Posted July 7, 2013 Share Posted July 7, 2013 Tyler Seguin is going to shut down his Twitter account, for now at least, after another homophobic slur was tweeted to his followers. The newly acquired Dallas Stars forward caused a stir Saturday night by tweeting “Only steers and queers in Texas, and I’m not a cow.” The post, which used a phrase from the 1987 movie “Full Metal Jacket,” was quickly taken down. Seguin blamed the offending tweet, his second with a homophobic slant, on “hackers” and later added “Twitter hacking has to stop. My apologies.” On Sunday, Seguin said he would be taking some time off Twitter. “After repeated attempts by “hackers” to try to damage my reputation I have decided to shut down my twitter account for a while,” he tweeted. Probably a good start but he’s not off the hook with his new boss. Stars general manager Jim Nill, who acquired Seguin in a seven-player deal with the Boston Bruins that sent Loui Eriksson the other way, plans on having a chat with the 21-year-old from Brampton, Ont, according to the Dallas News. “My problem with social media is you just don’t know how much of it is true,” Nill told the News. “I think, as a society, we are trained to believe 100% of it is true, and that’s obviously not the case. It’s difficult to validate how things might happen, whether someone was truly hacked, or just what might have happened. I can’t go off hearsay, I need to ask questions.” In April, Seguin found himself in hot water after including “no homo” in a tweet. He apologized for that, saying it was a joke with friends, but led to him talking with Patrick Burke of You Can Play, a group trying to get rid of homophobia in sports. Burke, though, now seems to have tired of Seguin’s Twitter excuses. “It’s obviously his moron ‘friends’ grabbing his phone and projecting their stupidity all over his public reputation,” Burke tweeted. http://www.torontosun.com/2013/07/07/seguin-signing-off-twitter-after-hackers-post-homophobic-slur I personally believe he did tweet it, seems like a guy thats lieing to cover up his mistake. Actually makes me think it was just a friend messing around on his twitter because even if he is gay I doubt this is the way he would choose to come out. Sequin was either drunk, or someone grabbed his phone (also drunk) and tweeted this. Don't feel sorry for him though, phone security is your own responsibility when one tweet can get you in so much trouble and when you party as much as he does.
