[Report] Team USA's Orientation Camp Roster Announced

Recommended Posts

The others one I agree on, but those 2 are really good players who have a good chance at making the team.

Cause Brian Burke is one of the guys who picks the team, and he works for ANA. Not much of a surprise really.

Actually gibson probably got an invite because he has played amazingly for his junior team, team USA in the world juniors, as well as performing well at the recent world championships. He's young but very good

He is very good. Its not like he is undeserving, but Burke has said prior that he would be invited. So his spot in this camp was never in question IMO,

I didn't think Burke was the GM for this Olympics, isn't it David Poile?

Team USA's orientation camp roster: http://olympics.usah...91?referrer_id=

USA Hockey has announced it's preliminary roster for the ‎Sochi 2014 Olympics:

Dustin Byfuglien

John Carlson

Dan DeKeyser

Justin Faulk

Cam Fowler

Jake Gardiner

Erik Johnson

Jack Johnson

Seth Jones

Nick Leddy

Paul Martin

Ryan McDonagh

Brooks Orpik

Kevin Shattenkirk

Ryan Suter,

Jacob Trouba

Forwards:

Justin Abdelkader

David Backes

Beau Bennett

Nick Bjugstad

Dustin Brown

Ryan Callahan

Alex Galchenyuk

Patrick Kane

Ryan Kesler

Phil Kessel

Trevor Lewis

T.J. Oshie

Max Pacioretty

Kyle Palmieri

Zach Parise

Joe Pavelski

Bobby Ryan

Brandon Saad

Craig Smith

Paul Stastny

Derek Stepan

James van Riemsdyk

Blake Wheeler

Wow; this is a line up screaming for help at centre! Kesler is a great two way guy, Backes as well but where is the pure offensive talent? So we look to a winger as the primary play maker on most lines which changes the pecking order a little un naturally, but??? Here is a go...

Pacioretty/Kesler/Kane There is speed, more speed, snarl and decent finish + Kane's puck wizardry...

Parise/Galchenyuk/Kessel By logic Statsny at centre? I just don't like him. Gally's young and talented!

VanRiemsdyk/Pavelski/Ryan Backes might belong here; but this is a scoring line!

Stepan/Backes/Callahan

Statsny, Wheeler

Suter / Shatenkirk

Fowler / Carlson

Orpik / Yandle

And I reckon there's a fair chance DeKeyser and Seth Jones round out the team, maybe even steal a regular shift. How much better was Detroit after DK arrived? McDonough or Martin is also a good bet?

It's not the star studded Canadian D but does look well balanced?

This is Jonathon Quick's team; and the US will only win if he's tournament MVP! Schneider will back him up and lets go with Gibson in the box?

I'm not an expert, but that's my best crack! Any feedback welcome!

U.S. GM Poile: Pominville ‘probably’ should’ve been invited to Olympic Camp:

One of the more notable snubs from the U.S. Olympic orientation camp was Minnesota Wild forward Jason Pominville.

And one person acutely aware of that snub?

The guy who handed out the invites — American GM David Poile.

Poile, who addressed the media on Monday from the opening day of Team USA’s camp in Virginia, said Pominville “probably should have” been invited to camp — and that, during a lengthy meeting with the American management team, Pominville’s name was eventually “put back on the board.”

“If [Pominville] plays well enough,” Poile told the Minnesota Star-Tribune, “he’s back in the mix.”

The understanding is that Pominville will have the opportunity to play his way onto the squad from October to December (rosters are due on Dec. 31). The former Buffalo captain has plenty of offensive skill — he scored 30 goals and 72 points in 2011-12 — but will need a stellar first-half showing to crack the American forward group.

Poile alluded that a number of forwards already have a “foot in the door,” meaning they’re not quite locks but about as close as you can get.

One would assume that group features Patrick Kane, Dustin Brown, Zach Parise, Ryan Kesler, Phil Kessel, David Backes and Bobby Ryan.

From there, it’s simply a numbers game: USA Hockey invited 24 forwards to the Virginia camp and it looks as though five to seven spots will be up for grabs.

As such, Pominville faces an uphill battle for a job.

Their defense and forward group is weaker than ours. Their goalies are really good though.

Kesler probably won't be the 1st center it would prob be like

Parise

Stepan

Kesler

Backes.

Defense is really weak though, weaker than previous years, Jones was invited? Shattenkirk, Johnson, Suter, Yandle are their top defensemens and that doesn't even compare to Canadas.

First, Parise isn't a center, he's a LW. Second, Kesler was the USA's top line center in 2010 centering Parise and Kane, so they have chemistry. Finally, they'll have guys like Suter, McDonagh, J. Johnson, Byfuglien, Shattenkirk, Orpik, Carlson, and Yandle as possible pairings for defense. I'm not defending them, I'm just saying they'll have a better team than you may think.
