hyrule
On wikipedia, he's listed as a defenceman/forward.. Could it be possible he's moved to forward with the Canucks and tried out there? I think he's been used a few times as a forward but I'm not sure how he did.. Could be a little replacement for Raymond maybe.. "The versatile skater has three goals and 11 points through 33 games playing both forward and defense." Anyone catch this when we signed him? Just something I noticed. Wheels22
I was always a fan of his because he is capable of playing both positions pretty well, not spectacular, but decent for sure. My buddy is a Habs fan and we would watch a lot of the games, and he would switch positions almost every game that I saw... I remember a few times we had to dress Rome or Alberts on the 4th line, and they were out of position a lot and looked confused out there.. Weber seems a lot more comfortable playing both positions I brought this up last year... It seems the last few seasons we get plenty of injuries on the blue-line early in the game, and our 5 other D have to play more minutes, get more tired, and beat more easily (2011 Finals is a good example of this).. If we dressed Weber as a forward, he would easily be able to slot back and fill that spot if a D got hurt.. It's just a matter of whether we want to use up a forward spot to dress 7 defensemen.. I wouldn't mind giving it a try at least...
Phil_314
He's more of a replacement up front than a regular (plus we're pretty well stocked at forward), whereas he could be good as a power play specialist on the back end IMO. Maybe line him up with Garrison/ Edler from time to time, since he can both shoot and pass, and for a small, mobile guy he's got quite the rocket of a shot (wrister and slap shot). Xbox
He played 4th line on MTL for a bit but it may of been for the same reason we played Ballard on wing Not enough healthy forwards
elvis15
I think we have enough forwards. He'll be used as a defenceman unless there's a situation where injuries mean we need to have him fill in.

Guest Pinchin
I don't generally take Wikipedia as gospel but I did enjoy reading that his first NHL goal was scored on Timmy Thomas. Realistically I think we have some pretty good depth on the 4th line so I doubt he will see any time there, but it is nice to have the option in a pinch. Langdon Algur
Given our depth on forward, especially if any of the young kids stick with the team (Gaunce, Horvat, Schroeder or even Hunter) I think he'll end playing defence but if we get a ton of forward injuries he could be asked to play forward for a few games perhaps. It's nice to have players like Yanick who can be used almost anywhere in the lineup. Wonder if he can play goal too .
CanucksFanMike
Only if we were really short on forwards like when Ballard was moved to forward for a few games this year. That situation is pretty rare though so I would expect him to play mostly defence. Good to know that he is versatile though.
kanucks25
He's an offensive defenseman so if you were short a forward, he'd be a good choice (for the same reasons Ballard was used up front occasionally). But I highly doubt he'll be consistently effective as a permanent 4th liner.
The Lock
I doubt he'll be a forward, although you never know. I do however think he's a decent pickup. He's only 24 so he could develop further than he has. He brings some versatility to the lineup (seeing as this thread exists). His numbers improved until last year when he wasn't getting the playing time due to Montreal's defensive depth. Toronto's so previously "coveted" and "valuable" Kaberle wasn't even playing. Drouin
we have good forward depth, 7/8 d-man
Canuck Surfer
Or like with Ballard, is it cuz the coach really couldn't care less if was available or not on D?
-Vintage Canuck-
I wonder how many points a defenseman would score like Ballard or Weber if they played with the Sedins for a whole season.
