10 Year Wedding Anniversary

Monty

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow, my wife and I are celebrating a milestone, 10 years of marriage. Now while tomorrow will be a fairly low key celebration, Going out for lunch, dinner, and then nerding it up w/ the new Hobbit film; the true celebration begins at the end of the month, when we head to Cuba for the week. Funny enough, my wife and I made a bigger deal about our 5 year wedding anniversary, heading over to Paris for 2 weeks.

So that being said, what would you all do when celebrating a milestone in a relationship: 5 year, 10 year, 15 year, 20 year?

For fun, any suggestions as to what you think I should do differently with the wife tomorrow and over in Cuba. Anything that you would add in?

I went to Cuba 4 years ago with a group of friends. We did an adventure we would suggest to everybody that goes.

You start in the morning at 8am and take 4 runners off road in the bushes, it takes about 2 hours till you get to a site where you have lunch. You learn about sugar kane and cigars there and there is a zoo with aligators, snakes and you can ride a bull (very safe believe it or not). Then from lunch you hop into a boat and have a 45 min drive/race up river, everybody get's there own boats. Once you get up river you get a snack and go to a cave where you do some swimming (very very cool) and then the bus takes you back to your resort. Costs around $120 but well worth it.

Sounds awesome. Which resort/town were you at? We're in Varadero.

Bring sedatives viagra/cialis and a video camera. And NO KIDS

Wife and I have always wanted to try viagra, even though we have no need for it. Unfortunately, neither of us know any doctors that would be ok with giving a note for some.

10 years, eh? Time to knock out a couple of kids, Monty!

I am friends with an older couple who have traveled all over the world, and they said that on average the food isn't very good in Cuba. Except for one time, when they were approached by someone who worked at the resort and asked if they would like a lobster dinner. They said yes, and later that evening them and a couple other couples were picked up at the resort, and brought to a home that had all the curtains drawn, and shuffled inside. Once inside, they were treated to an absolute feast of lobster, wine, and all the side dishes - for $10 US each.

Why all the secrecy? Because it would normally be illegal for a commoner to approach a foreigner, and then make a business arrangement like that with them. But that ended up one of the best meals they'd ever had, despite all the others they had in the country being less than memorable.

So yeah...don't jump into a car with the first person that asks. And obviously make sure it's not just you going. But if you get an opportunity like that, definitely consider it.

...On a similar note, they told us which country had the absolute WORST food - The Philippines!

We have kids so our anniversaries are spent with family and I have no problem at all with that. My parents are retired and travel a LOT. 5 or 6 international trips per year but for their 50th anniversary this past summer they didnt have any plans so we got together and took them up to Whistler to the Fairmont Chateau Hotel over the Canada Day long weekend so they could hang out with all their grandkids together( my Moms favorite activity in the world) had great weather and lots to do there. Great trip for it being planned out kind of late.

We have date nights (at home) almost every weekend, but we totally celebrate our big milestones. For our 10 year, my guy had a scavenger hunt set up for me - was sooo sweet - each clue focused on a major event in our lives. He even got our oldest kid to start the clues. When all was said and done, we had a great couple of days in a fantastic, upscale hotel - lunch, spa (couples massage), dinner, dancing. It was amazing.

I'm up for the 15th anniversary and there is no way I can top the 10th, but I sure as hell will try!!!!

I think the success of a good marriage is to indeed celebrate the love. Keep it romantic!

That said, congrats, Monty!
