I believe a series of 4 digit numbers are created for every team with a random number generator. It's a huge number like Bufflao would get someting like 4000 4 number digits and we would get roughly 1000 numbers. Then once the 4 balls are drawn they are simply matched to the master list of numbers. Which ever team owns that 4 digit number wins the lottery. If he was willing to go, then he'd be gone before the draft.Drafting Reinhart or Bennett would be an issue if Kesler really wants to stay. Suddenly we have no space for Horvat.We might be well advised to trade down to 4th/5th overall and go for Draisaitl or Dal Colle. That said, maybe the best thing for the franchise would be to move the two current roster members mentioned above. If we could get Pouliot, Mantha, a 1st and a 2nd for the 2 of them, we could really be shaping up for something special in the near future. Imagine the following (provided we #TankForMcDavid), without adding any UFAs:Shinkaruk - McDavid - KassianMantha - Horvat - JensenDaniel - Henrik - CasselsFox - Gaunce - TuchEkblad - TanevPouliot - HuttonStanton - CorradoLackErikssonThe most important thing is that we suck even harder next year.
