Backes was not slipping, he was turning to retrieve the overskated puck. Also the amount of time the puck had left Hortons stick (right before the GIF started) is more or less the same amount of time Backes didn't have the puck. Every hit looks bad in slow-mo. It's more of Horton whiplashing his head on the ice for me than actual contact to the head from Rome.
