The kid's not going to walk in to the NHL at the deadline next season after we 'move Miller' as many are prognosticating. He may be one of the world's top goalie prospects but he's STILL JUST A PROSPECT and is going to take time to adapt to pro hockey. He'll likely take a good 20 games in Utica to get his footing and will spend next year in Utica likely splitting starts. The year following, he'll likely get the majority of starts and perhaps a call up or two. Third year, maybe he pushes for a backup role. This is not going to happen overnight folks...
LordHorvat
Sweet, looking forward in seeing him play in Utica next year.!!!! Memo to Benning, please don't you dare trade him now. Also those who were doubting he would sign with Canucks can now take a deep breath and relax now

What teams in the market want a goaltender, is Benning that dumb that he would sell Demko to our rival. Seems he enjoys helping out Calgary alot? Hopefully Benning realizes Demko has to be moved and not to Calgary, because yes they need goaltending. I don't know what other teams need goaltending in the East. Realistically it will be a trade with Demko and more. Pretty silent all of a sudden eh? @desiboynux4lifee******* 2 minutes ago, J.R. said: Serious. When team USA invites a 3rd year College student to the World Championship, it tells you something. This kid is the real deal and while he most likely goes through a number of bumps in the road in the AHL next year, I think he comes out of the 16/17 season as a contender for the backup job on the Canucks in 17/18.

This is pretty much it. Demko will likely not get a backup position in the NHL till the end of 2017-18 season as a best-case scenario. He most likely will be called up once or twice next season, 5-10 times in 2018-19 and maybe become a backup to Marky (or whoever) around 2019-20. If he ends up behind Marky, he may spend the next year or two dislodging Markstrom. That would mean if he progresses well, he will challenge for starter job around 2021-22. Ie, it would still be a 4-5 year process.

I would ease your expectations. Unless of course you want to be disappointed. Cory Schnieder was also invited to WC after college and never played a game. Cory also spent 3 seasons in the AHL before coming to the Canucks full time. Expect Demko to also spend 2-3 seasons in the AHL. Popular Post S N Y P E R S 7
Thatcher Demko is an exceptionally athletic goaltender that can seem unbeatable on many occasions. His composure in net and modified butterfly style have scouts comparing him to Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators. He prepares himself well, positionally, for initial shots and the subsequent rebounds, and his cross-crease lateral movement is very good. As he tracks the puck, his stick always covers the five-hole and he makes himself big. One of the most noticeable aspects about Demko's style is that he doesn't go down prematurely; he isn't overly aggressive, but will get out to the top of the blue paint to challenge shooters with a clear shooting lane. Moving forward, Thatcher Demko will have every opportunity to develop into an elite franchise-type goaltender that can be relied upon in all situations. I would assume he'd likely split starts next year and start the year after (and play over 60 games). I think the management would rather him get over 60 games in the AHL rather than less than 25 games in the NHL. Yep. And that's what the did with Schneider too. Granted , different management , but it tends to be the way most teams develope young goaltenders. They almost always take longer then anyone else to secure roster spots
