Who can tell me who was in goal for the Canucks' first ever pre-season victory, back in their expansion year of 1970 (hint - the goaltending was shared).  The first person to answer correctly wins an unsigned photograph of one of those players.

Good luck!

You are all incorrect.

On Friday, September 18, 1970, the Canucks played their first ever NHL exhibition game, losing 3-1 to the Minnesota North Stars in Edmonton.

The next night, Saturday, September 19, 1970, the Canucks played the North Stars in Calgary again, surprising Minnesota by beating them 5-3.  Ed Hatoum, one of the best hockey players ever to be born in Beirut, Lebanon, scored two goals for the Canucks, while Wayne Maki (may God rest his soul!), Garth Rizzuto and Mike Corrigan also scored.

In goal, sharing the victory, was Ed Dyck and Serge Aubry.

The Canucks would subsequently sign Aubry, but then assigned him to Rochester.  Aubry never played a regular season game with the Canucks.  However, after two seasons with Rochester, he jumped to the WHA, and shared the Québec Nordiques’ net with none other than Richard Brodeur.

Sadly, 2011, Aubry died in a Lévis, Quebec hospital from the diabetes at the age of 69.  He will always be remembered as a true Canuck.
