Are you talking $23 million in AUSTRALIAN currency, in American currency or in Canadian currency?????

$23 million Australian $$$$ works out closer to your total at $17,662,735 million US.

Canadian. Usually at least in my neck of the woods it's 100/G, 3-320/8-ball and 30-35/kilo(or at least I've heard). But who knows... I'd imagine at that level you may even get a huge discount.

A point that I addressed clearly already if you actually read the thread.

And your first point is tin foil hat material. Yes that does happen but usually not in 1st world export/imports.

And even if it was the case,  these girls were probably the ones intended to get past.

Naw  the first point is not tinfoil $&!#. Escobar even admitted to doing that and I'd imagine other cartels do similar stuff. And yes even In North America there's payoffs. There was just a big thing in Kamloops in May of some officers being charged with trafficking or conspiracy w/trafficking(meaning that they took bribes essentially to look the other way).

You'll know within time if they were intended to get past or not. If they were supposed to get by and got caught because of stupidity, I bet their lives aren't worth the millions that were lost.

Ok but I'd argue that these sluts were supposed to be the ones to get through

Yea you may be right, but I just can't see being that dumb unless you're trying to get attention. Then again we didn't get full details. What I found startling was that department of homeland security is the one who pointed them out as high risk passengers. So they must have been tied up in some stuff previously.

Also, I really don't see the issue with documenting their cruise as they did. It could actually ad to their alibi, which is that they were just on a cruise, some rando hands them a package, which is supposed to be something that is not drugs...the rest, they just play dumb. The pictures they've posted certainly don't distract from that clueless image.

Was the bolded really necessary? No comment about the guy on the same cruise who was smuggling almost twice as much cocaine? Frankly, I find your usage of the term to be sexist and unacceptable given the definition of 'slut'.

Yes it was. Women who get caught with cocaine are the kinds of women who sleep around and are not worthy of my respect when posting about them on an anonymous forum.

If some young blinged out guys where caught with the same Instagram and all that, they would be called douchebags by half the ppl on here. Which I find sexist. Because it's always referring to males.  But I would get laughed at and told to have thicker skin if I brought that up.

So I will just tell you to have thicker skin and to not get offended so easy.

Nice generalization but incorrect as you're making assumptions all over the place.

But it's pretty much what I expected you to post. So thank you for confirming it in writing so everyone can see what, and who, you are.

Hmmm..........let's see......lawfully speaking.............blinged out men who get caught with that much coke ............ are called..............wait for it.............drug traffickers.

Just as blinged out women are.......

Funny how that works.

A more serious charge under the Act is trafficking in or possessing for the purposes of trafficking any controlled substance under the Act. This charge is usually laid when a person has some equipment, such as weigh scales or plastic bags generally associated with the distribution or sale of drugs, or is found with a quantity too large to be reasonably considered personal use

And also moving cocaine in bulk is probably a higher quality than you'll generally get in the end result (thus lowering the price for Jow Blow to buy his personal amount) so you can't just take the value and weight mentioned and then try and equate that at the personal amount.

I disagree.

I think they somehow , it their quest to be cool, empowered independent women, made "friends" in the drug business. They probably let it be known that they want to make some cash and go on an adventure.  They told the guys about their 5 star cruise. The guys also obviously picked up on their upper class appearance.

For some reason, the suppliers just calculated that they might as well go big or go home. There is *always* a small chance that things will work out. With the front that these women put on, there is always a chance that the authorities will just smile and move the women along. Without suspecting  a thing. But I think the suppliers must have been equally ignorant about Australia specifically. Because the odds are just so low. That probably works from time to time in ports around Europe. But not Aus. Then again, with these high "quality" mules, you might as well get the most bang for your buck. That is Aus.

"For some reason"? Yeah, people with access to that quantity in drugs don't just go big or go home. You might as well find out how to swap someone's bag at the second last port to try and get it through rather than trust someone whose plan is camouflaging a suitcase full of coke with some dirty towels. If you aren't taking some precautions beyond "they look privileged and hot" then you'd never have gotten big enough to even have access to that kind of deal.

No doubt they stumbled into this by being pretty and falling in with a crowd that could shower them with money. I doubt they paid for the cruise themselves either. Maybe their suppliers were convinced by their good looks, and the women sold that they could pull off whatever plan they were told, but you can bet they weren't told to cover a bunch of coke with dirty towels. The women likely got lazy and figured that'd work as well as anything else.

How the guy falls into this is something different though, where he could just be someone with a totally different profile in the hopes they'd only find part of the three.

It's a calculation every time. Tramps like this don't come around every day. So they probably went big.

They'll turn rat and spill the beans...make deals :)

Not if they want to live. Whoever gave them that product to sell obviously already have Australian contacts. These girls weren't planning on going to clubs and selling nickel & dime bags, they were going to meet certain people and sell shwackloads of coco. They keep their mouths shut, do some time, appeal to the embassies & maybe they get out a lot sooner...alive.

  • 1 year later...

Might as well update this thread as it's come to a conclusion. The story's Canadian heroines (pun intended) got sent to the slammer. Though their sentences seem a little lenient for the amount they were trafficking.

I see there was a debate on this page whether or not the term "sluts" qualifies for these two. The article below provides a bit of color on that. It's safe to say it applies.

Prison sentence for Instagram star cruise ship cocaine importer

A JUDGE had some harsh words for the glamorous youngest member of a trio who imported 95kg of cocaine when she was jailed today.

GLAMOROUS cruise ship cocaine importer Melina Roberge has been sentenced to eight years in prison by a female judge who delivered a blistering attack on “vacuous” and “negative” Instagram.

Roberge, 24, wept silently as she received both a longer maximum and minimum sentence than her co-accused 30-year-old former porn star — Isabelle Lagace — who had received a discount for an early guilty plea.

Roberge will serve a minimum four years and nine months in prison, with her earliest release date in May 2021, three months after Lagace’s non parole period expires.

The 24-year-old, the youngest of three Canadians who imported 95kg cocaine on a luxury cruise, made world headlines when she and Lagace’s Instagram posts of their exotic port stops.

On Wednesday, NSW District Court Judge Kate Traill attacked one of Roberge’s motivation for taking the drug cruise.

“It is a very sad indictment on her relative age group in society to seem to get self worth relative to posts on Instagram,” Judge Traill said while addressing a sometimes tearful Roberge.

“It is sad they seek to attain such a vacuous existence where how many likes they receive are their currency."

“She was seduced by lifestyle and the opportunity to post glamorous Instagram photos from around the world.

“This highlights the negative influence of social media on young women.”

Judge Traill, who also accepted that Roberge’s motivation to do the drug run was financial, revealed that the offender had been sexually involved with the “sugar daddy” who recruited her.

Wearing a white jacket over a black top and pants, her face carefully made up and long brown hair drawn up into a ponytail, Roberge bit her lip and wiped her eyes with a tissue in court.

Judge Traill said Roberge had begun a sexual relationship with a “much older man”, her so-called “sugar daddy”.

“He charmed her and spoiled her and became intimately involved with her,” Judge Traill said.

The sugar daddy enticed her to work as an escort and she slept with men he introduced her to in nightclubs.

Roberge, who stood to earn a possible $100,000 from the $21m cocaine plot, was being sentenced for trafficking 29kg — 23kg of it’s pure — of the total importation.

She and travel partner Lagace made international headlines with the Instagram photos of themselves in bikinis at exotic stops en route to Sydney.

The pair and a third French Canadian drug plotter, Andre Tamine, were arrested in August 2016 when MS Sea Princess berthed in Sydney and Australian Border Force officials raided their cabins.

During sentencing submissions last month, Roberge revealed a “sugar daddy” had recruited her and Lagace after she earned 10,000 euro working as an escort in Morocco.

News.com.au revealed exclusively that Roberge was pimped by “my sugar daddy” with strange men at nightclubs prior to taking the fateful drug cruise.

Court documents released after sentencing submissions showed the then 22-year-old was given gifts and money and “if I was interested” she would sleep with the men.

In June 2016 she said “my sugar daddy contacted me”, and she became a last-minute replacement on the MS Sea Princess.

Roberge and Lagace were flown first class to the UK to join the cruise ship and act as the glamorous foil for the real business of the drug importation.

The two were given first class cruise tickets worth $20,000 and 4000 euro spending money.

Roberge was told she would be acting as a decoy and was encouraged “to take pictures of myself in exotic locations and post them on Instagram to receive ‘likes’ ”.

The Sea Princess stopped at Bermuda, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Tahiti before berthing in Sydney six weeks later.

It was in Peru that Roberge said she believed, due to multiple trips ashore by four men on the cruise involved in the drug deal, that the cocaine was brought on board.

She told a Sydney court last month that she had been “excited” about taking the luxury trip which she could not have afforded to pay for.

But she had argued with her then boyfriend Jo before she left, with his texting her “We fight all the time because of your f***ing drug trip”.

And since her arrest and incarceration in different maximum security Sydney women’s prisons, she had regretted her actions.

Roberge has made a court apology to “the people of Australia” and said since being in jail, “I have come across people struggling with addiction. I don’t want to be part of that.”

Lagace was sentenced to a maximum seven-and-a-half, minimum four-and-a-half years in prison after making an early guilty plea.

Tamine, 67, will be sentenced at a later date.
