Phil_314
Honestly not surprised to see this move, been suggesting Bishop to Dallas before. Now as others have suggested, if we can ship Tanev to them for one of their Finnish goalies, and their 1st round pick and maybe a prospect (Honka, Dickinson) then the team would be in pretty solid shape moving forward. Seeing how both teams are trending in different directions (we should seek young future assets and be open to taking on dead cap, Stars should seek to contend in short order), I hope that Nill would be smart enough to realize a likely fit for Chris in their top-4 (Klingberg would likely benefit from not taking on heavy defensive responsibility, where Chris can clearly handle it; bumping John down a pair so that Chris can absorb tough minutes could probably really enable the Stars' defense to become solid). Trades involving these two teams make sense for so many reasons IMO.
cripplereh
the stars needed a goalie and ben should do well there
UFCanuck
They also need 2-3 d-men.
McDavyCrockett
Calgary just lost out to one of the teams which they'll be battling with for a wild-card spot next season. What an idiot Treliving is for choosing Elliott over Bishop. It should've been clear who the superior goalie was when you consider the numbers Bishop had in TB even when their defense was suspect- before Stralman signed and Hedman blew up. It's been recently revealed that Bishop refused to waive his NTC for Calgary, so perhaps he preferred not to be in Canada? Maybe his contract extension demands were inflated to make up for having to go North. Seems kind of silly to make a judgment call that it was completely a single GM's decision... And Bishop's injury history, age, and suspect numbers this year are huge red flags that should make a GM think twice from overpaying for him. For a 4th rounder, and for reasonable salary, he may be a good deal for Dallas. But the ask last year at the draft was rumoured to be a 1st + top prospect. And his salary demands were likely far higher a year ago. Even if Bishop wanted to go there, Treliving looks smart now for not paying that. Rush17
I still can't get over the 4th round pick. what are the conditions on it? there has to be something for a goalie of that calibre. the 9th overall for Schneider looks Damn good if there's no condition. No, he refused to waive now because he saw what a goalie graveyard Calgary is. If a guy like Elliott goes from leading the league in SV% in St. Louis to being run out of town after one year in Calgary, why the hell would any goalie want to go there? Simple fact is: Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa will always be the some of the least desired markets in the NHL .That only amplifies when the teams have major holes. flat land fish
So what type of asset could we get taking on one of the stars surplus goalies
-Vintage Canuck-
Scott Darling was the Dallas Stars first choice to finally solve their goaltending qualms, but they weren't prepared to give up a 3rd round pick for his rights. So, the Jim Nill went with his 2nd choice, giving up Montreal's 4th round pick for Ben Bishop.
