The expansion draft really sank the value. I'm not sure what this has to do with Tanev or his value - which you're underestimating if you think these are comparables. Expansion hasn't 'sank' any value - it has created scarcity and demand. I think you may be under the impression that Van Reimsdyk is better than he actually is. As another poster noted, he is over-rated. He's a good, mid range, responsible defenseman with a bit of upside, but he's not really anything special. A late 2nd is a decent return for him. He's not an elite shutdown D, he's not going to score a great deal - the perception of his value is simply escalated by the fantasy implicatons of being a Hawk.
