Very exciting times in Washington after adding almost 4500 games of experience in a small handful of new players.

When Mikko Koivu went down with a season ending injury or was a major blow to our team. He was our most veteran player and arguably our best centre. The injury was followed by some major trades by other Eastern Conference teams leaving our roster looking mediocre from a playoff standpoint.

Our first priority is as always has been loyalty in Washington and we had to ensure we remained loyal to our vets that have built a winning culture here over the last 9 seasons. Those vets include Kreider, Silfverberg, Dzingel, Kassian and Yandle who are all on non playoff teams leading up to the deadline. Though the ultimate goal is to win the cup, if I were to do it by disbanding my roster at the trade deadline I know it wouldn't feel as sweet. These players are our leaders and will continue to be moving forward. A few young players will need to be patient as they battle their way up the depth chart but we have a lot of confidence in our young core and will continue to develop them slowly with the patience we have always shown with our prospects during my tenure.

As for the players we added, Marleau, Ladd, Chara and Hickey will be integrated into the lineup by playoff time and our belief is that they will all solidify roles and gain comfort within our system by seasons end. Ladd and Hickey are currently injured so they will make there debuts later while both Marleau and Chara have made contributions already.

With our recent playoff failures in the tough Eastern Conference I felt it was my duty to do whatever I can to get out of the first round in this year's playoffs and hopefully even further.

Updated Lineup:

Kreider - Turris - Dzingel

Kane - Nylander - Laine

Heinen -  Marleau - Silfverberg

Copp - Lowry - Kassian

Roslovic

Gauthier

Yandle - Ellis

Chara - Klingberg

Toews - Gudas

Grzelcyk

Murray

DeSmith

IR: Koivu, Ladd, Hickey

Columbus would like to welcome Defenseman Brett Pesce, Forward Andrew Shaw, and Defenseman Nikita Zadorov to the Blue Jackets organization! We are incredibly proud to welcome each and every one of you to the blue, red, and white. We would like to thank arby, Dak, and RL. for considering our offers on each of these players. We feel these moves have dramatically improved our club heading into next season. We know the East is a difficult path to win on but our goal for next season will be to compete for a playoff spot.

Please help us welcome our newest additions to the CBJ family!

Brett Pesce | 24 Year old RHD | 5 G - 6 A - 11 PT |

- Pesce was acquired from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for 28 year old David Savard, 23 year old Laurent Dauphin, and 25 year old Jordan Schmaltz.

We worked tirelessly with Montreal Canadiens GM Arby-19 to find a way to bring Brett Pesce into the CBJ organization. We are ecstatic we are able to bring in such a great young defenseman who still has room to grow in his game. We look forward to having Pesce in our top 4 on defence as we continue our path in our rebuild on the fly.

Andrew Shaw | 27 Year old  RW | 12 G - 14 A - 26 PT |

- Shaw was acquired from the Minnesota Wild for a 2019 2nd Round Draft Selection from the Winnipeg Jets.

Andrew Shaw has been a player name that has come up on a regular basis in our discussions with Minnesota GM Dak Prescott. Shaw is a high character guy, excellent role model, and a fantastic role player we are extremely excited to add. We look forward to him helping sheppard our next generation of youth in the great State of Ohio!

Nikita Zadorov | 23 Year old  LHD | 5 G - 3 A - 8 PT |

Zadorov was acquired along with a conditional 2020 Draft Selection in a trade with The Vegas Golden Knights for 23 year old Steven Santini and a Conditional 2020 Draft Selection from the Winnipeg Jets.

Nikita Zadorov isn't the most offensively gifted defenseman but he does so many other things right down on defence. He is a big body, hard shooting D man who can get rough and tumble when the team needs him too. We are extremely excited to add Nikita Zadorov to our D core as we continue to push onward and into the next era of Columbus Blue Jackets hockey.  We would like to thank new Vegas GM RL. for the fun and rather quick negotiations on this deal.

These trades today symbolize our commitment to our team and our desire to be contenders in the very near future. We have a great young core of players including the Dubios', Kaprizov's, Dahlen's, Dube's, and Murray's of the world. We are now looking to insulate and add to this young nucleus. We feel these trades will be vital to our team's success as we transition into year 2 of our tenure next season.. Columbus will continue its search to try and add to this young nucleus via trade. We currently have 13 draft selections in the 2020 Draft and we intend to move some picks out to further embolden our young team!

Thank you, everyone, for all the fun and exciting negotiations this season. We look forward to competing with you all next year! Best of luck to all of our former players and to our newest GM!
