We managed to pull of the first four in four hour span. Thanks to some persuasive GM's encouraging me to become more active we managed to make some much needed adjustments. Our team's foundation this season was largely based on our defensive depth and a youthful injection. We managed to start out strong a top the league but as the kids adrenaline wore off and players started to struggle it became apparent we were weak upfront. We agreed in principle to proceed with the Benn and Parayko deals if we could get the conditions we wanted in both transactions. After that we knew we had to move salary out to accommodate the incoming players. So we decided to move out a valued expiring UFA vet in Tyler Bozak who unfortunately has missed most of the season. In return for the pick we received for Bozak we then targeted an NHL replacement in Tlyer Pittlick. A player we personally feel is a very capable nhl replacement. Upon completion of that trade we took a step back and assessed our roster. We did make a big improvement up front by adding Jamie but we knew we were still weak in our top 6. With Pageau and Gourde both third line forwards on their respective nhl clubs and Cozens who should be a third liner at most. We decided to explore the options available to us to move Connor Murphy the defenseman we acquired in the deal with the Rangers for Jamie Benn. Having a top 4 D of Chabot, Girard, Sanheim, and Parayko made it clear he had no place to maintain a top 4 role on our club. So we explored some options and came across Jakob in trade conversations. A player I have personally been a fan of for several years (as much as I hate to admit i like a duck). Upon a hiccup in our trade for Jakob we had to find another means to resolve my cap crunch as we would not have the funds to bring Parayko off of IR. So we posted in CDC discord where you should all hang out :D. We got a two responses in quick order and took the offer that made the most sense for our situation and direction of our club. Jones is a proven goaltender we hope can continue to help the growth of Mackenzie Blackwood's game and he has stayed relatively healthy and active well in Florida. Komarov I have a soft spot for ever since I saw him on the leafs. He is a character guy and a player we hope will help stabilize things in our locker room. Losing young potential star defenseman wasn't easy. But in order to better prepare ourselves for the leagues off-season expansion we were forced to make a bold set of moves to change the course of our franchise. Our intention is use the 8 skater, 1 goaltender protection strategy. Which will include our Top 4 D previously listed. We had 5 defenseman we didn't want to risk losing which made protection really untentiable. So we made some upgrades, moved some salary, and we hope better positioned ourselves not just for the future but possibly even this season. Seeing a divisional rival like Tampa declare they are entering a retool definitely creates some more hope but we know we need the team to pull together and show they are capable of building into what we hope is one day soon a top contender in the GML. Quote Updated Lines based on trade transactions when healthy. [ Benn] - [ Dubois] - [ Lindholm] [ Silfverberg] - [ Cozens] - [ Kaprizov] [ Gourde] - [ Pageau] - [ Vesey] [ Clifford] - [ Pitlick] - [ Roussel] [ Rooney] - [ Komarov] [ Chabot] - [ Sanheim] [ Girard] - [ Parayko] [ Ferraro] - [ McNabb] [ Nesterov] [ Blackwood] [ Jones] Thanks to all the GM's who engaged in talks. It was a fruitful and enjoyable time talking trade. We wish all the great young players we moved out all the best in their careers. Welcome also Jimmy Vesey to Vancouver! Also a special thanks to @canuck2xtreme for dealing with all the backend work to process and post this trades. You are underappreciated my friend. I booked a game in Vancouver specifically to see the final Vancouver appearance of my favourite Duck of all time, and he was ill with a flu that night. They announced that he was sorry he wasn't able to play for us in Vancouver one last time before his retirement though, which was a nice sentiment from a superstar global hockey player, who just happened to be a Duck. His retirement year, his RETIREMENT YEAR he had 27 points in 64 games, only 12 penalty minutes and was +8. I can't wait to visit the Hall in 2022, I decided mid covid year that is one vacation destination I will be doing. Hahahaha, just checked the season by season results and literally since the two retired, the Ducks have progressively gotten worse in every season, lol. 13-14 was their best year of the last 7/8 years. Upside was that theMinister managed to find my seat and came by to say hi. My obstinate buddy was being a jerk though and while I thought he was coming to the game with me, he was really 'putting up with hockey' in order to get to the RiverRock casino afterwords with me. It wasn't even half way through the second period and he wanted to leave the Rink. Funny, we aren't friends any more. Not connected really, but i guess at some level yeah. hahahaha.
