I think you have to add Garland with that 5 year contract.

Yes. 3 reasons.

1. Improvement from within. The young core will be better. Wouldn't be surprised if EP has a breakout season.

2. Depth everywhere.

3. Pacific division.

The next question is, can we beat Vegas to make it out of the Pacific?

If Demko is still in their heads let's say we steal game 1 on the road with a Thatcher Demko shut out, we could actually pull off the upset.

There are so many variables that have to work in Canucks' favour: OEL having a bounce back year, Garland keeping up the production, Demko even better than ever, Podkolzin setting in well and chipping in 30+ pts, Petey staying injury free AND our defense getting solid!!

As much as I would love to see playoff hockey next year, I have to say we won't be seeing it.

JB has created a problem with bringing OEL into the fold. There are now four players to sign with limited space, two of which are going to take up most, if not, all of what's left.

Both Petey and Hughes are, more than likely, looking for north of six million each. The clock is ticking. The longer it takes to get them signed, the more likely it is that offer sheets become reality and inflate their price tags beyond the possibility of signing both.

Dickinson filing for arbitration could bring a bigger bill then JB wanted, which could force JB's hand to take other action to free up space to get them signed, namely trading another asset.

We, also can't forget that JUolevi needs a new contract.

By the end of summer we could be down a major player, in either an rfa or, a veteran player of significance, either of which would cripple our chances of making the playoffs.

Lol don't be so dramatic.   Ferland.    By the time all is said and done the Canucks will still have 2-3 million to spend, either with what's left in free agency (Staal please) or just leave it open to add at the TDL.

Edit: Serendipity ... didn't even know OJ just signed - just got a text ... what was it he signed for again?

You should be a writer for those reality shows, love the drama!

Elias and Quinn will sign reasonable contracts or miss some games.  There are precisely two teams that are somewhat likely and able to offer sheet Petey: Seattle and Minnesota if they can't resign Kaprizov.  We have enough money for reasonable contracts, not for overpayments.  Dickinson will get done in the next 10 days, Olli's done today.
