I guess if there's a positive from last night's match, it's the fact that Canada dominated the second half and were extremely unlucky not to equalize....

....all while playing a man down for the last hour, away, in front of a hostile crowd, and without their best player in the lineup.

Add to that, their best player last night was not Jonathan David, or Tajon Buchanan, or Cyle Larin, or Jonathan Osorio (who was all but invisible, IMO)......it was Richie Laryea and it wasn't a particularly close decision....

They just have to make sure it doesn't get into their heads against the Jamaicans....they're the better side....and it isn't all that close....

Those Central American countries are crazy soccer places to visit. Those wearing Canadian colours there a brave.

Best case scenario is you get bags of piss thrown at you

Worst case scenario is you get stabbed

Watching Kaye's Red card was a bit soft.... Should he have lost his cool after getting one yellow? nope.  but Fudge Venegas dove like he was thinking he was Neymar.

They played well enough with 10 men on the pitch but ooff it was hard.

It was, but it was uber-stupid and selfish. Anyone who plays soccer at that level knows players are going try and buy Yellows from the ref. Kaye absolutely understands this, but chose to throw the shoulder at him anyway.

IMHO, TC would have qualified last night, if not for that act.

650 had a show today (11-1) about soccer.  And those guys (I'm guessing they are experts) said we will be in the big Cup tournament, even after that loss.  They were talking about goals for and against and that we just need to not give up 12 over our next two games.  I didn't really understand whatt they were talking about TBH.  Just got the idea we will be in.

Yes, we discussed all of that at the end of the last round of qualifying. It would take a bigger collapse that the Leafs vs the Bruins in the 2013 playoffs for Canada to miss.....however....every qualifying loss hurts their chances of moving up in the world rankings...

This absolutely has to be a goal for the team moving forward.

I looked through the World rankings last night and theoretically, you need to be in the top 24, to stay out of a 4th place seed. However, Italy has already missed. Colombia, Peru and Chile are in big trouble. A few other European teams currently ranked higher than Canada will likely miss, so it's entirely possible that maintaining their 33rd ranking puts them in the 3rd pot, but it's not something you'd want to count on.

They should be shooting for that 24th position, but inside of 30 at the very least. Another loss could be problematic and they still have to travel to Panama in this round.

Does the winner of this concacup tournament get into a higher pot thing for the big cup?

Finishing first in qualifying doesn't technically put you in any pot. It affects your world ranking, which is what (hopefully) puts you in that 3rd pot.

Right now, Canada is ranked 33rd (they moved up to that spot after the last round of qualifying) If they finish top of the table, it's hard to imagine that they don't move up at least a few more spots, but this is FIFA we're talking about.

That's why last night's loss hurts and why they really need to take a minimum of 4 points from the next two games....

There are lots of websites like this one that use FIFA's ranking algorithm to calculate live rankings: https://football-ranking.com/fifa_rankings?period=31 March 2022

Canada's loss yesterday put them down to 36th, so obviously not a great result. They'll need to take care of business against Jamaica since Panama will likely be desperate for a good result in the last qualifying match.
