The NHL’s Mark Messier Leadership Award is full of all of the hypocritical mixed-messaging to future players that one can stomach. It broadcasts  what the NHL’s brass really want to see out there - while pretending with the NHLPA to be all safety conscious & more progressive. (Parros & Pronger we’re added to the DPS after-all)
 

Apparently, one of the NHL’s most notorious head-hunters & cheats is the best role-model forvNHL leadership on & off the ice, even tho’ most NHL teams don’t want him anywhere near their young players or prospects.
 

^But, Bettman & the NHL brass are completely tied to Messier & revere the guy…as an enabled-captain of a New York Ranger team that won the SCup Championship in ‘94. And - then set out to core-bust the dressing room of the  team that almost prevented him from doing a year later.
