This is hard for me to watch. I was really hoping watching these that I would see something I was missing with him when I watched the games the first time around and was tryng to watch all of the players of interest.

Pro's: I see a player that is incredibly offence minded. He offers great puck support in the offensive zone. He's good with quick stick lifts and pick plays to support team mates. He's sneaky af back door slides into open ice and we all know what he can do with his shot. He's got really good shake n bake getting defenders to move one way then catching them flat footed. I can see where his goal totals are coming from and it is hugely encouraging that he's able to score from everywhere and beat goalies clean. I also like that at least he was making superficial contact finishing some checks

Cons: Pretty sure he didn't make a single play on the defensive side of the puck in this entire 23min video. He's not Pete. Not one take away, not one hard backcheck. I saw a kid flying the zone the moment his team touched the puck looking to poach a breakaway on every puck possession.

Maybe he was instructed to do this I don't know? When he did get those opportunities he didn't have the separation speed and was easily neutralized on one occasion leading to a goal against where he could have curled and waited for puck support maintaining possession.

Camping out for that 2 line pass.

I won't go through the whole thing but you get the idea. I need to see more than goal scoring from him to get excited about. It's a good shift by shift there is lots to watch he's involved all of the time and his team is really looking to run the offence through his stick.

I really hope that we can get him in camp and relay some messages to him. He is incredibly talented but there are aspects he is going to need to take seriously to reach his NHL potential. I really want to see this kid evolve into an elite all situations goal scorer.

Hard to watch lol. A little melodramatic. But yeah, everyone knew Sweden couldn't go toe to toe with that USA team. Zone time was overwhelmingly in favor of USA. Final tally on shots in this game was 51-15. They had no choice but rely on a monster game from Havelid (both Havelids lol) and stretch the defense with hail mary attempts. Not saying your concerns aren't valid - he's 17 and he certainly wasn't drafted for his defensive play. But this is the wrong game to make your case from.

Camping out completely covered for that 2 line pass.

I agree with your assessment.  However, it wasn't hard for me to watch him not be strong defensively.  He wasn't pick for his 200 ft game... That would have been Öhgren.

As you observed, the offense ran through his stick... For a reason.  He was by far the most gifted offensive player on team Sweden... Personally I prefer 200 ft players more.  They're more reliable.  Usually have a game that can translate with any style of play, and shine in hard gritty games.  That's more like Öhgren's game... BUT the truth is, you can't teach pure skill, and this kid has it in spades.  Right shot too.  He works hard and once taught how to defend better, put on some weight, get stronger, he'll be a decent 200 ft player.  He'll work at it.  He has the right temperament.

He was compared to a slower Willie Nylander... I agree with that assessment at this point, but I think Lekke will be more devoted to becoming a better all around player.

Just look at that chin, the kid has a noggin' he'll grow into and looking at his DB profile picture, he may even have a mean streak. I think him and Petey are going to rip it up in a few years.

haha. Think we could trade him for a RHD?

No no. This is our guy now. I want nothing more than for him to turn into a huge success. The draft is over its done. Putting it behind me now and looking forward to watching these kids turn into something special. BPA won the day hopefully it wins in real life too.

Sweden won this game. They won Gold baby!

This is why I feel it's really hard to judge these kids on these tournaments. you aren't going to win the cup playing hail Mary hockey.

Win or lose I try to look at how certain players games will translate. Another poster posted this video so I watched it and took a few notes. I'm not really trying to make any case at all other than I don't think the way he played this particular game will translate to NHL success.

Only 12 pages for our first round this year eh? I am surprised as no one mentioned about this. Management needs to check this out and pay attention to it seriously. Our fans are losing interest big time !!

Our last yesr 41st overall pick. Danila Klimovich even got 85 pages here. Something to think about management team!!

The Benning years killed the interest in our team for a whole generation of kids.  Going to very hard to recover from Benning.  But getting a guy like Lekkerimäki will help, especially if management can get him to come play locally for the Giants.  He would score 50+ and 100+ plus points in the WHL.  That would definitely stir interest.  Playing in Finland; not so much.

As a Canuck I’d be ecstatic if he chose to wear 88

LEKKERIMAKI

88

Would look sick on a Canucks sweater

Honestly I hated it when Gaud wore 88. Loved the number on Tryamkin though. I feel like 88 is a big mans number I grew up with Lindros being the big 88 I guess though. I'm fine with it on Kane so I guess I'm a hypocrite. I feel like when you grab one of those numbers 66, 99, 88, 22, 33, 44 those are some big shoes to fill you better have a presence on the ice.

I think you are wrong, the way he gets into scoring position and his quick release will transfer. He has that ability of timing the right time to slip into scoring position that can not be coached.

I'm interested in what else he does besides that. I'm hard on Brock for this same reason I'd like him to be more than a PP specialist.

You wrote his skill will not translate to the NHL.

He can't fly the zone everytime we touch the puck in the D zone before we even have possession. He can't set up base camp on the other teams blue line. He Can't play an entire 23mins of ice time without a single defensive touch.

It was a commentary on a video posted by another user. It was a comment on his play specifically during the u18 gold medal game.

This comment had absolutely nothing to do with disparaging his offence saying it won't translate the way apparently you interpreted it.

I remember (not comparing)  when Yzerman first hit the NHL all offense, was coached into one of the best two way forward in NHL history.

Just read your other post, you were going off of his performance in that one game when you wrote would not transfer to the NHL.

Going off hardly. I praised him for his strengths and highlighted areas of concern. Sorry I didn't blow smoke up his arse.
