Despite pretty limited viewings on Simashev, it's getting hard to deny he's probably the number one guy. Hard not to think of Mukhamadullin at the same age. Simashev is not as polished offensively or defensively as Mukhamadullin was, but Simashev is heavier with more of a mean streak and he's an even better skater. Pretty similar draft quality this year to 2020, right down to being forward heavy in the top 15-20; I had Mukhamadullin 17th largely because I just thought he was one of he highest-floor players in the draft, despite limited offensive upside. With Simashev's tools he could have higher two-way upside, and I feel like a Nikita Zadorov could be a kind of a floor for him. Normally, I have pretty big concerns when I don’t see atleast a decent amount of production leading up to draft day. I’ve said it before that I always want a prospect to have something elite about him, whether it’s skating, IQ, shot etc. I’d even accept size an an ‘elite’ quality, and I value each of those differently. So on the surface, Simashev shouldn’t excite me all that much, and yet from what I have seen, I always come away impressed. I think his IQ, and in particular his play processing, is elite or near it. He doesn’t wow very often, but he constantly makes a smart play. I find he will often make a smartest play possible under pressure. That combined with his fantastic skating, and a penchant for some nasty/physical play, is why I am able to overcome a potential offensive ‘ceiling’ that he might have. If I want offense from the back end, I think Gulyayev is your guy over any other D this draft, no question. As far as a comparable for Simashev, I don’t mind Zadorov as someone sizeable with great skating, but I feel there is a wide margin in the processing power between the two. You mention him as a floor, and I think that’s pretty darn bang on. As far as upside, I get some Pietrangelo vibes in the play style, but still not a great comp. The player I come up with, and more so after some of his more offensive years in FLA, is Bouwmeester. A player who processes and controls the play, but never rly wows outside of his smarts. I do think there is untapped offense with Simashev as well, not necessarily from his own creativity, but from his environment. 1 2 1

The ranking is all over the place. So many of these prospects with lots of hype now could very well not turn out. I really hope Canucks will be on the good end of it. We really need to draft and develop our picks well to find any long term success.

Just shows how useless it would have been for us to try and lose. Whether we draft 6 or 11 makes no difference in this draft. We will get a great prospect regardless. We'll see I hope he has a great year this year the SHL will be a good test. I don't wan't JB back but I also feel like how you go out of your way to spew Benning hate is pretty poor fanship or whatever you want to call it. The guy may not have been the best GM but I don't think he deserves the type of dehumanizing spite you have for him. End of the day he was just a guy trying to do his best and his best wasn't good enough. 1

It's just an algorythm basically putting the kids in order based on their production across different valued leagues. It's more just interesting. Or not? I wouldn't put any stock into it. Just thought it was a fun fluff piece. It might put some kids on the radar you hadn't thought of. I don't think Simashev is on there either because he has 0 points but so did Danila Yurov. So the algorithm misses them. Edited June 6, 2023 by hammertime 1

While I understand what they are trying to do, this misses on quite a few fronts. If you want to get into the obvious " fault " ,they rank some players on their performance in the games they played in the senior leagues, not taking into account games and points scored in the junior leagues played by players who played in both leagues this year coming into the draft.
