I believe he was out for around seven weeks during one stretch. Pretty hard to get into a groove then isn't it? I hate the "bust" label CDC is putting on the kid. He's what? 21 years old, playing D, and learning the pro game.

They didn't go into a defensive shell, instead poured it on. Good process. I like it. JC despite his struggles in Chicago is an excellent coach known for developing. He's going to do a great job in Abby. 1

CRAZY_4_NAZZY
29 minutes ago, J-23 said: Woo looked relaxed out there, not sure what the problem was last year with him on d Woo had a shaky first half of the season, but his game began to pick up. Shortly after though, he was injured. By the time he returned to the lineup, Vancouver had a rash of injuries up front leading to Abbotsford having a shortage of forwards. Due to Abbotsford having consistent D pairings that worked and being AHL veterans, Cull and his group used Jett Woo and Kannok Leipert up front. Woo doesn't skate nearly quick enough to be an impact forward on the wing, thus saw him go 16 games with one assist. A big part of that falls on Trent Cull and Gary Agnew for deployment, but I also look at Ryan Johnson and Chris Higgins who were part of the development team for allowing that to continue on for as long as it did. Placing a 21 year old in an unfamiliar position and not emphasizing development and rather on playing veterans and getting W's in the inaugural season was IMO a very poor choice. Again similar pattern of misusage and development by the management like what happened to DiPietro in 2021. Jett Woo's first year in Utica during the taxi squad/pandemic season was one of Utica's brightspots on the blueline. He and Rathbone were easily Utica's best d pairing. Its unfortunate how he was used, his injuries, and it being his second year of pro that led to a culmination to a poor season.

Popular Post JamesB
Nothing deep to add but here are my takeaways. 1. Silovs was excellent. Copying Demko -- bailing out questionable plays by the D. Predicting a good year for him in Abby. 2. Nice to see guys who deserved to score actually get rewarded. Bains and Neilsen were very good and deserved their goals and, although Karlsson's goal was an empty netter, he played well and deserved a goal. But Klimovich might have been the best forward on the ice. Of course, the knock on him is that his defensive play is not good enough and I could not really tell if his play in his own zone was good or not. But he was very noticeable on the breakout and in the O-zone. 3. Wouters and Aman were also good, so both the top 2 lines looked good overall and should do well in Abby this year. 4. None of the above points is a big surprise. The guy who maybe moved up the depth chart is Kirill Kudryavtsev. He should have a good year in the OHL next year. 5. Woo looked pretty good but, as one of the oldest guys out there and with significant AHL experience, he really should look good at this level. Not sure he did enough to raise his stock. He has 4 years on Kudryaytsev (22 vs. 18) and, while he showed more poise, I am not sure he showed more ability. But not a bad first game in the pre-pre-season. 6. Still very early days, but pleasantly surprised so far. 3 2 2
CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Kudryavtsev had a very sound two way game. Thought he stood out the most for all the right reasons for the Dmen tonight. Skates well and had sticks in passing/shooting lanes was very impressed how calm he played throughout the game. Also really impressed with Nielsen, Namestnikov, Bains, and Klimovich up front. Thought they consistently made things happen whenever they were on the ice with the puck or making small good plays in all three zones. 2
Dixon Ward
I thought Silovs was hands down the best player on the ice. Karlsson was next. Nielsen had heart and made the playe of the night. Aman, Klimovich and Wouters looked strong as well.

BlakeQuinnAndEggs
I know it's just one game but all week Don Taylor has repeatedly slandered this Canucks young stars team for not having any 1st rd picks and I know it's just one game but I think they looked pretty good last night. Let's hope we unearthed some diamonds.

I realize many of the Canuck players are College committed so can't attend, other than pay their own expenses, and our Euro's are already playing league games. Is this the same with other teams? One game only, but that isn't a very good looking Calgary Young Star team. Edited September 17, 2022 by johngould21
