But signing guys to one year deals and trading them sets a bad precedent or something and scares off free agents..

:bigblush:

Been happening more so that is old thinking.

Most vets signed now to ine year deals is to trade them if they don't work out or have a good season it is now part of the game.

Ducks are rebuilding really well.  Here they go and sign this guy as a UFA that doesn't cost any assets, and now they'll likely flip him for some trade capital.

Honestly, this March TDL will make or break a LOT of our trust in this management group.  The playoff dreams are done.  Make the moves that we need now (ie. sell sell sell).  It's really only a month and a half away from the TDL.

Exactly this is a smart move and the Canucks could have easily got good trade value for both Boeser and Miller if they were UFAs after this season which was totally in the control of this management.

Here's an example of our local rival that shows what a difference good management makes

The Ducks' prospect pool is arguably the best in the league as well. Contrary to some people who think that winning teams can't draft well, the Ducks are the best example of how it should be done. 2015 was by far their worst year, but they easily made up for it with their more recent draft picks.

They have A+ prospects like Zellweger waiting in their pipeline too. Their rebuild is almost done and they'll be pushing for playoffs as early as next year. They didn't always need their first round picks. They would nail it with their other ones.

From 2018 - 2023 they had 8 first round picks as well.
