Best way to create cap space is to cash in on players when their value is highest relative to what they actually bring.

Could they have traded Brock instead of extending him? Late1st? Early 2nd?

How about Kuzmenko could we have gotten a Jeanot sized return for him at the deadline?

Theres 12 mill cap space right there. And we picked up a haul of assets in the process. Flip some of those assets to dump bad contracts creating more cap space. Now you have a slate on which to build the team you want.

Very true, but really the Kuz trade is one you make, if you accept a rebuild is needed... unless you expect Brock to suddenly score 30+ again.

But yes without doubt, If you have plans to change the structure of your team, trading Kuz would bring a handsome return.

Imagine Kuz traded at TDL or even after with a very manageable 5.5M for 2 years, retain a little if needed

That could probably bring you a top 4 RHD maybe even with a 1st... How would that look instead of perhaps having to give up Brock, Beau or Garland for peanuts...

The idea is simple we can come close to filling Kuzzmenkos shoes on the team with guys we couldn't trade for a bag of pucks. Sure maybe they won't score 40 but they can do the job well enough. If we could return a mid to high 1st and a quality player for Kuzz I'm all ears.

Yeah with an all important good rhd prospect + 1st... Our D would be just about set?

Canucks are in cap hell and other teams know it.  Best we can hope for is trading some players for “future considerations” and maybe retaining.

Something like…

Beau + Myers to CHI for future considerations.  Both have 1 yr left on their contract.  So CHI can probably flip them for draft picks at the TDL.

I don’t think there are many suitors that want Garland at that price.   Canucks retain a bit and trade for a low draft pick.  Possibly a buyout candidate.  2yrs at below $1M cap hit followed by 4yrs at below $2M cap hit.

I think Boeser would garner some interest but would definitely need to retain maybe $2M.  Buyout would be 4yrs at just above $2M.

I’m expecting Pearson and Poolman to be on LTIR giving the seriousness of their medical problems.

I don't think we are, but even if we were, we have time on our side and there is no big hurry to dump our excess players. Others teams will get more desperate as the season progresses and injuries accumulate. This Management group has shown they are not making any panic type moves and will be patient as they progress.

Teams that are tight against the cap ALWAYS find a way to be cap compliant I am not worried about it in the least.

Brock had no value with a 7.5 QO. Kuz is a 39 goal scorer. Why trade him awsy when we could sign him at a great team friendly cap?
Clearly Benning :picard: left us with some nasty contracts. OEL, Myers, and others of lesser dollar amounts. These are all supporting cast players. The supporting cast is being retooled. Out with the crappy contracts and players and in with new guys who are contributing to winning. Hronek in and Myers out. Mik in and Garland out. That’s what I see happening over the next year. And there will be more turnover as our younger guys push for spots. Woo, Hogs, Pods and others will be pushing for spots.

This is it right here Alf. Miller at the right price? We sign him. Bo? No? then he must go. Kuz? Right price? He stays.

There was no quality, fair offers for players such as Boeser, Garland or Meyers, so they stayed, for now.

We will not be successful if we do not pay our players correctly. We must be prepared to let anyone go, if they are not willing to stay at a fair price

That even goes for our untouchables, otherwise we will be just like Toronto, ewww! ::D

Did it seem like he was Tocchets favorite guy? Wonder why? Did he produce away from Pete? Did he back check or check at all ever?

He's our shiny toy until he isn't. No doubt he's skilled. Could we have returned more than his real value. How much better than Brock and Beauvellier is he really?

We should probably trade everyone who performs well for future performers….who we can then trade for future performers into eternity. Then we can constantly be on the cusp of having teams who will be competitive.

thankfully, as we execute that genius plan, players and agents will never wise up to the fact that they’ll probably be shipped out if they over-perform at any point.

Sounds very much like Buffalo and Arizona. When players get expensive, and they're still not competitive as a team, they get traded for futures. Basically developmental farm teams for the rest of the league.
