IMO he's a dark horse and maybe a better pick than given credit fo. Him and KUdryavtsev

Just in terms of raw skill, possibly the best offensive tools from any Dman we've drafted since Quinn Hughes.

Far from a sure thing, but a highly skilled player that will be fun to follow through development.

From The Athletic:

"The 6-foot, 190-pound right-shot defenceman’s athleticism began to shine through as well. He finished second in overall testing at the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game’s combine after finishing in the top five among the 40 skaters in four different tests (first in backward skating with puck, third in weave agility, third in transition agility, and fourth in forward skate with puck). He performed exceedingly well at the NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo in June, too, finishing in the top 10 in testing in the VO2 Max (seventh), pro agility (ninth), anaerobic peak output (second) and anaerobic mean output (fourth)."

Fingers are crossed for this pick.

Brzustewicz showed his aptitude offensively, constantly looking for ways to get up the ice and be part of the offence, especially on the second and third waves of attack. He was patient with the puck and Komisarek says his mobility and hockey IQ shines when he's got the puck at the offensive blue line.

"He's a player that has tons of confidence with the puck and a high threshold under pressure. He's like a quarterback in the pocket, when there's pass rushers coming at him, he's got the internal clock, poise, and vision to make the right play, see the ice and what's going on around him," he said.

His penalty kill time during the Showcase was limited, but with the minutes he had on the PK he was able to anticipate and stay loose in front of the net. Komisarek said the penalty kill and power play can be a little scrambled with this tournament being the first go-round of five-on-five hockey for the players since their respective seasons have ended.

Last season for the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL, Brzustewicz put up 57 points (6-51-57) in 68 games.

It'll be interesting to see how his development goes as he gets stronger, he's got a ton of tools but I do wonder how much the added strength could do as far as adding another gear skating-wise.

Not that he's a bad skater, he isn't, but will he have above average quickness in the NHL? (to give him that extra bit of time w/ the puck he thrives with). Lots to be intrigued by here, excited to see him come World Junior season.
