Grape
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=634601 Looks like they believe in themselves to win the cup the next 2 years.

cs2016
How high is their second round selection? Best time to give up selection too.

Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw
I don't know much about how contract games work (unless you're an insider, neither should anyone else really), but this might grab Parise's attention.
Guest AriGold
Maybe they see huge potential in a late round draft pick in the 1st round. I'm sure they have a good reason for the decision.
-Vintage Canuck-
Meh... Right now I'm more interested if Parise is returning to the Devils next year. Not sure about Brodeur but I think he is most likely returning or will play next year.
c00kies
They should only keep their first if they trade down to draft Malcolm Subban. They might be able to trade Parise's rights for a 1st (might have to add each way) if he decides he wants to go elsewhere. When do the Devils have to announce their decision? I assume it would be before the draft and not just right before their pick. P.S. Could they possibly keep the pick to spite the Kings?
oldnews
Looks like they have a few question marks where their veterans are concerned and want to get another youngster coming down the line sooner rather than later.
Intoewsables
It's actually confirmed, not a rumor. The deadline for them to forfeit the pick has passed. Ballsy move by Lamiorello but I guess it shows his players that he believes they'll be winning the cup in the next two years. Gotta convince Parise to stay somehow. Ryan Murray
That just sucks. Go to the finals, and then forced to get the 29th pick. That just sucks.
morrissex95
Zach Parise will most likely be resigned. The trade value for Rick Nash just rose exponentially. As did the trade value for Bobby Ryan. Alex Semin and Alex Radulov now have markets respectively.
Guest Dasein
Don't question Lou ... He will do whatever is best for his team regardless of what others' think and most of the time, he's right - his 3 Stanley Cup rings and 5 trips to the Finals prove it. One of the most underrated moves at the trade deadline this year that raised a lot of eyebrows and was ridiculed by many as overpayment was the Marek Zidlicky trade. That trade solidified the Devils' backend as a committee and that allowed them to get to the Finals. Lamoriello might be eyeing a deep 1st round talent. Besides - you never know - I'm sure 99% of the people would much rather give up a top 10-15 draft pick from 2004 than give up the 25-30th pick in 2003. Every draft is different, and maybe next year's is very shallow in talent after MacKinnon.
Phamda
Keeping this years pick makes sense for the Devils because they have a thin prospect poll and really need to improve. So it's wise for them to keep the pick and refill the cabinets. I'm sure Lou thinks the team can go deep again next year and possible the year after, so gving up the pick next year or the following year eon't be a big deal. Also there's the possibility the Devils are looking to offer sheet an RFA so they want to keep the pick.
Jägermeister
What you guys might not realize is that this is supposed to be one of the deepest drafts in the last few years. Their 29th pick this year could very well be a better prospect than the 20th pick next year.
BoKnows53
Stupid, what if they get a lottery pick next year. It happened to Philadelphia a few years back.

Jägermeister
I heard the exact opposite. I also got others here that will back me up on my word. The first 11 is strong draft. After that it's everywere. This is one of the weakest drafts since 2006.
