Pears
Timonen and Streit for sure over Edler.
Greene02
I know we're really talking semantics here, but it's not what happened. EDM was 'generally' operating between 21-22% PP for most the season. Van was operating at 26% until beginning Jan with the #1 PP - at that time TOR was #2 w/ 21.4%, and EDM was #6 at 20.6%. Nucks PP then slowly started to fall and ended up at 22% in mid Feb, then was overtook by Nash, then EDM at that time. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter. I was just trying to point out that PP league leaders chance from yr to yr. You don't see teams consistently making the top 10 yr after yr (for multiple yrs in a row) - since the lockout, a few teams have done it - Van, SJS, Det, Minn. Mtl. RunningWild
I agree it doesn't matter but for some reason I still feel the need to show that I'm not just making stuff up End of October: Oilers PP was ranked 12th(18.2%) http://oilers.nhl.co...ge.htm?id=74621 End of November: OIlers PP was ranked 4th(22.2%) http://oilers.nhl.co...ge.htm?id=75736 December 28th: The Oilers were 2nd in the league. http://blogs.edmonto...come-good-news/ End of January: Oilers ranked 3rd(21.3%) http://oilers.nhl.co...ge.htm?id=77329 End of February: Oilers ranked 1st(21.8%) http://oilers.nhl.co...ge.htm?id=78177 End of March: Oilers ranked 2nd(21.3%) http://oilers.nhl.co...ge.htm?id=79036 End of the season: Oilers ranked 3rd(20.6%) I'll admit that I didn't totally have my facts straight. It wasn't the overall PP that ranked first for the majority of the season. It was the home powerplay.
Buttock
Umm if you want to argue sematics that's fine. No one is stating he made 'the first all star team' and thats a crock anyways, its voted on by the fans dude. The starting line ups are a popularity contest, the remaining players are selected by the NHL, so I suppose you know more about talent than those running the league but ok if you say so. Its actually more of an honour to be selected by the league for that reason because it exemplifies stellar play at your position. 36 players selected by the NHL 30 teams, 23 players = 690 players 36 players selected which is what around the top 5% of the league? I guess he's not that great. He is by the way, the best all around defenseman on the Canucks. Hamhuis - Best Defensive Defensman Bieksa - Best Physical (when he wants to be) Edler - Highest scoring and best at moving the puck, solid defensively, has shown he can hit. He plays each part of the game, therefore he is actually one of the most important cogs in the wheel.

filthycanuck
I think it's between us and Toronto. Gardiner connection vs. family connection.

Guest Dasein
Lets hope the same happens for Weber next year. Could you imagine this potential D-man corps Weber Edler Bieksa Hamuis Shultz Tanev Salary cap wise..it COULD work
Pears
Toronto trades for his rights from the Ducks, then trades his rights to Edmonton after failing to sign him. In the meanwhile, the Canucks get Luke Schenn as a part of a trade to fill the spot on the right side at the draft. This leaves Schultz to worry that the Canucks are no longer interested in his services, but he tests out the free agency anyways. Within the first hour of FA, Schultz signs an entry level contract with the Canucks.
Tortorella's Rant
Chara Weber Letang Doughty Karlsson Suter Campbell Yandle Girardi Pietrangelo Boyle Keith Seabrook Kronwall Timonen DelZotto Streit Wideman Carle Burns Hamhuis Shattenkirk Buff All guys who you could at the very least make a case for ahead of Edler based on their potential or where they are at already. Edler had big pts production this year but hes far from being a top10 guy. He likely makes the top 20 but its not any higher than about 15th at the most. Dream Theater
I had to scroll up to the top of the page to double check that I was reading the Justin Schultz speculation topic. To my astonishment I was! I could have sworn it was the all purpose Alex Edler thread!

Avicii
Wait. You guys think a 21 year old kid is gonna help us win a cup right away? The guy is projected to be a top-4 defenseman, doesn't mean he's gonna be one as soon as he steps into the league. He hasn't even played a single NHL game, and you guys think he's magically gonna make us a cup contending team again? EDIT: Besides articles on the internet, how many of you people have seen him play?

BoKnows53
The same was said for Gilroy, and how did that turn out. The NCAA is much different than the NHL, Schultz will lucky to be in the top 6, yet people think he's going to be Edler's partner.
mpt
Schultz is on another level, he's on that Duncan Keith sh*t.
DeNiro
Maybe in a few years, but there will be a huge learning curve.
mpt
Ryan McDonagh jumped in as a 22 year old and did really well. Schultz is from the same program and put up far superior numbers. Sure there will be a learning curve, but I don't see him taking that long to adjust.
