I am 'meh' on Burmi.

I know he has potential and a good defensive game, I just don't see the huge offensive upside yet.

However, I do agree that he may not be easily replaced.

Assuming there's a lockout or what?

The Jets may have been aware of this development, on account of them loading up on a few similar-capability free agents.

Reports from Russia are usually as accurate as SamJam.

No doubt about that. Watched some Jets games this year and gotta say, he has a lot creativity and playmaking skills and is a great skater.

That's what happens when you sign Olli Jokinen instead of giving him a chance...

Maybe some of you people will start to share my Russian hate. If they all left for the KHL, it would be a better league IMO. It would also be a nice surprise to see what we're up against in WC/Olympics.

As a Jets season ticket holder, I'm neither here nor there if this should come to play.

Burmistrov is still incredibly young, and might burst out with more talented players. Or, at best, he is a good 3rd line center with a great defensive game.

That said, wouldn't be too disappointed. Not as if Cheveldayoff is making of habit of drafting or signing Russian free agents. If it happens, ce la vie.

Can you imagine drowning AT a KK Rev concert?

It's going to be Scheifele's team anyways

Edler, Markstrom, Hansen, 2nd round pick 2014 to Islanders for Ryan Strome, 5th overall pick 2014

This is fairly even as well.

I don't think Jokinen specifically is a factor, as they did want to improve their #1 C slot, and Burmistrov isn't at that level. It does push down the rest of the centers they already have though, with Antropov, Little, Wellwood, Slater, Cormier and Scheifele all in line.

He is a dynamic player though with good skills, and while his offensive output hasn't reflected that just yet, it will since he's still able to put up 28 points as a 20 year old in the NHL. That'll only improve.

REally??? you know he was drafted with a very high pick.

Our GM mike Gillis already shortly after he was hired, that there are risks drafting russian players.

Players Nikolaj Ehlers have been compared too by the fan base of the Vancouver Canucks.

1 Pavel Bure

2 Markus Naslund

3 Nathan Mackkinon

4 Jonathan Drouin.

5 Jonathan Tavares

combine results.  Ehlers 5'11 162 lbs of solid rock.

I am sorry to say that 80-90% of the Russian players are all selfish and all about money. That other 10% is Datsyuk.

Russia is HOME for these guys. If the NHL was in russia, I bet a decent portions of Canadians and Americans would come back and play in the "NAHL". We wouldn't have accused them of coming back for the money, that's for sure.

Yeah, take away Datsyuk, Ovechkin, Malkin, Semin, and Kovalchuk, and then don't let Terasenko, Kuznetsov, Yakupov, Grigorenko, or any other Russian prospect play either. What a great way to make the NHL better.

Honestly, lets not have this "report" turn into a Russian bashing or a Burmistrov bashing. I don't see it in this kid to bolt. Kids got great attitude, and will to want to succeed in the NHL. He's molded his game like a Datsyuk, and if he can get the points going, and i think he will, he'll be the closest thing to Datsyuk. Shouldn't judge until it's confirmed or official. These reports have been coming out, ever since Burmy has been in the NHL, and wasn't Pavelec suppose to go back to the KHL according to some reports earlier on? Well that didn't happen, and we'll have to see, but i doubt he goes anywhere.

I think he was just about ready to have a breakout 20-goal, 40 point season. This kid has serious offensive talent and sweet hands and in 1 season alone he fixed up his defensive game and played much more physically (doubled his hit totals).

This guy is a gem and future #1 center for Winnipeg, they better not lose him.

I am pretty sure their are Canadian players that are all about the money it just does`t get out because its behind closed doors and they doesn't have another league to use as a bargaining tool so it doesn't get publicized as much.

A big driving reason that the Russians came over 20 years ago was the millions they could make in the NHL. It's always been about the money. If all leagues in Europe offered NHL level money, how many European players are going to want to uproot their lives and families to play for the same money here?
