the source may be a weak link, but this is the most interesting thread in a while for a speculation starved CDC.

Agreed.

Philly has an OBVIOUS need where we have strength, and they have a plethora of what we need most. It makes a whole lot of sense.

Add to this the fact that Edler is probably looking for big money and a full NTC. I don't think Gillis wants to alter his salary structure, and having your top-4 all have NTC's really handcuffs a team. Switching Edler for someone who makes Bieksa-Hamhuis-Garrison-Ballard money or less, and strenthening our forward corps in the process seems pretty reasonable.

That's a good point. If any trade goes through, it will probably have to do with whether Edler is going to take a discount or want a massive contract.

Ballard for Talbot.

The rise of Couturier makes Talbot expendable.

Ballard fits more in a Philly system than he does ours. And they might be desperate.

If we could get a top 4 defenseman in return for Luongo, I would definitely consider it. Not that I don't like Edler, because he has shown in spurts his potential as an all round defenseman, but if we can pry Voracek/Schenn/Couturier out of Philadelphia, I would do it. Edler at this point still seems like he has unfulfilled potential because at times we see him being physical, good defensively, displaying his hockey vision, but we rarely see it come together...and to be honest, we could get his 50pts from a defenseman that puts up 40pts elsewhere.

Not willing to trade Edler or any of our Top 4 defensemen, unless we get a good defenseman in return. We need 4 quality defensemen to have a strong D, with only 3 our defense looks very average.

Our D would suck unless we get an all around defenseman in return.

A freshly locked up Hartnell for 6 years versus 1 year for two players that will be looking for major paydays.

Edler, Raymond

for

Coyburn, Hartnell/Voracek

...something along the lines of that, only way I'd trade him to Philly, or if B. Schenn and/or Couturier were coming back, and obviously Giroux. But, I'm just dreaming, a deal will likely not occur as this is just an inquiry. Holmgren was prolly like "He Mike, was wondering if Edler is available?"

MG: "Is Giroux available?"

Am I the only one who would consider this seriously?

No, you're not.

In fact, I would seriously consider moving Edler and Raymond for both Schenns. I know this would drive most of Canuck nation into a frenzy because we all know that anything that came from Toronto at one time must be fundamentally flawed.

Schenn has his defensive issues, but so does Eddie. Schenn is bigger, has more hits and is a right-handed shot. He's also locked up at a reasonable 3.6 million Cap hit for another four years. Edler, OTOH, is a pending UFA who is due a huge raise.

Personally, I would do that deal. If Homer balked at taking Raymond,(which I don't think he would) I would make it a deal breaker.

All in all, we lose a bit offensively at the back end,(hopefully Garrison, Hammer and Juice could pick up some of the slack there) but we gain more hits and salary flexibility.

We also gain a legitimate young star up front...

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

I say the Canucks win that one big time. Mainly because of Brayden.

I'm not willing to move Edler. Philly would probably be the only team that could offer what we need. They have a tonne of young skilled forwards. I don't know guys, Edler is a beast even without Erhoff.

The heck is wrong with you? Edler > Hartnell , Burrows=Hartnell , Hartnell is a better scorer than Burrows but Burrows is a better defensive player. There both fan favorites and clutch players.

Philly needs D REALLY BADLY. So maybe Giroux+Couturier for Edler.

They might need D, but not that badly that they give up their superstar and one of their best up and coming players. I mentioned Voracek and Couturier earlier, but even that's unrealistic for what Philly would want to move. It might be what we'd ask for, but not what they'd want to give.

Perhaps a Couturier+Grossman deal could be worked out (I don't think they'd give up Couburn) but then we'd have to think if it's in our best interest to move a 50+ point D-man for that.

I'd do that deal in a heartbeat

B.Schenn would be nice, but they won't move him now that they have his brother I bet

If Edler is to be traded, I sure hope Gillis dances with Winnipeg for Kane.

Luongo or Schneider for a 1-2D.
