The Sedins may still be our first liners in a few years but it won't be b/c they're still first line caliber It'll be b/c we don't have enybody else better. Though I'm hoping Kesler hasn't destroyed his body so bad that he can't be the #1 centre is a few years.

Didn't kesler already do that?

Yup, I'm pretty sure that MG won't be signing any free agents in the next 3 or 4 years from now.

In 5-6 years we are a bottom feeder unless Gillis signs some big UFAs or gets a couple great picks in at the draft

Over the next 3 yrs...

Sedins will be around for another 3 years by which time they will be 35 and they won't be top line players
Kesler will be all banged up and booth (who in no way is currently good enough to be a top 3 forward) will be in the decline

Kassian and Jensen offer some hope, but I doubt Schroeder or Gaunce will be anything at all. Our D will be OK IF we resign Edler. Garrison will be 30yrs old which is ok and Tanev and Cannauton may round into top 4 guys. Hamhuis and Bieksa may be a good bottom pair or second pair

Schneider will be 29- prime time!!

I am most worried about our offense. IMO, we need a young centerman with buckets of potential:

Ex:
Ryan Johansen
Schenn
Couturier
Bjugstad

So if I'm gillis, I'm trying to land a young center with first line potential via the Luongo trade. That's essentially what he is doing with the Florida rumours.

Btw, no to Joe Colborne

I'm going to assume right off the bat that the Sedins retire in 4 years.

By then:

Jensen - Kesler © - Kassian
Sweatt - Schroeder - Hansen
Burrows (A) - Gaunce - Higgins
Mallet - Lapierre - Grenier

Hamhuis - Bieksa (A)
Edler - Garrison
Connauton - Tanev
Corrado

Schneider
Lack

I'm really optimistic about our prospects as you can tell. I really do think we're looking at another prospect injection similar to the Kesler/Burrows/Bieksa timing, wherein they were developed here and after a few years in the NHL were stars. Of course this would require either success in the form of a Stanley cup or else a complete tank job to begin such a rebuild. As well you have to consider the almost annual roster play MG tends to pick up at the deadline.

I'd rather start a full rebuild by then, complete overhaul ala. Pitts, Chicago, Edmonton.

Something to be excited about instead of holding on to the geezers and be a mediocre team for another 40 years.

Please dont become the Flames...

I'd rather be a Detroit type team, making the playoffs every year and having a decent shot at the cup every year. Lets not have bad years to rebuild, lets be consistent and hopefully our draft picks will be better than predicted (like Zetterberg and Datsyuk clearly were).

It's CDC, where 90% of the population rags on Gillis and/or other GMs around the league while proposing completely illogical line-ups including heavily overpayed role-players, insanely over-hyped veterans (Jason Arnott this year, Brad Winchester last year, Arron Asham the year before, etc.), unproven prospects, etc.

I'm just going to assume no free agents signings or future draft picks as its near impossibly to predict. Players in the organization already only.

Schroeder - Kesler - Kassian
Sedin - Sedin - Jensen
Burrows - Gaunce - Hansen
Mallet - Lapierre - Grenier/Labate
Weise

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Corrado
Connauton - Garrison
Sauve/Tanev

Schneider
Lack

I'm hoping at some point Booth and Ballard are dumped for cap space. Their salaries are a lot higher than their actual value. I don't think the Canucks have deal with Edler leaving, he'll be re-signed. At this point the Sedins and Burrows will likely be declining. We'll have to hope our prospects at least pan out as decent top-nine players up front. I think Corrado and Connauton will be NHL players as well.

Or we can hope that if theres no NHL this year, than we can win the draft lottery and draft Nathan Mackinnon. It would be the one nice thing the NHL has ever done for us.

2014-2015 Canucks.

Sedin- Sedin- Jensen - (Sedins sign new 2 year contracts, probably their last.)
Burrows - Gaunce - Kassian (gaunce, having a very similiar prospected talent as Kesler becomes the new 2nd line center
Higgins- Kesler - Hansen (Kesler starts to decline come the tail end of 2014, has run his body raggid. Hansen/Higgins both signed until 2017)
Glass - Lapierre - Mallet ( tanner realizes he made a mistake when he gets sick of crosby halfway through his first season in Pittsburgh, signs with vancouver 2014)

Booth takes leave for the 4 f's (friends, family, faith, and frackin' killing animals)
Ballard goes somewhere. not sure.

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Garrison - Seabrook (Chicago decides they really need a goalie. Edler is now playing with Ehrhoff in buffalo)
Connauton - Corrado (tanev isn't offered a lucerative enough role on team, rights are traded to Philly for a draft pick, bryz still stinks.)
Stoner (just cuz)

Lu (Schneider asks for trade to Chicago, because Lu and Lack have created an unbreakable bond on twitter, schnieder is jealous.)

In a few years from now, Luongo will be continuing to get shut outs for us, Edler will be a force on our blue line, and Raymond will be tearing up the league, on a first line unit with the Sedins.

Also, Phoenix will be on top of the league.

Definetly hard to tell. I could see us making a big splash or two in free agency over the next few years. Think something like Gaborik or Perry, and then insert our rookies

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian (he will be one of the best in the NHL, think Lucic/Franzen)
Perry/Gaborik - Kesler - Jensen (just imagine this line leading us to multiple Cups)
Burrows - Gaunce - Higgins (veterans helping the kid out along the way)
Schroeder - Lapierre - Hansen (will be a very hard line to play against)

Edler - Garrison (one of the best shutdown pairings in the NHL. Edler will have evolved into your perfect #1 D man, while Garrison is a stud on the back-end)
Hamhuis - Bieksa (we all know about this pair)
Pulock - Corrado (Pulock will be the pick that turned out to be a top 10, which was acquired in the Luongo trade)

Schneider
Lack

I could see a Luongo/Schneider v2.0 situation happening with these two.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

Sedin Sedin Kassian
Booth Kesler Jensen
Burrows Gaunce Hansen
Mallet Lapierre FA

Edler Garrison
Hamhuis Tanev
Corrado Bieksa
Sauve

Schneider
Lack (probably traded)

other considerations:
-return from Luongo/Schneider
-Schroeder/Rodin prove themselves in the NHL
-Sedins are still playing

To be honest we will be the new Edmonton Oilers. AFter the SEdins retire, I we are screwed. Rodin Schroeder, are doing "ok" but nothing that really makes me feel comfortable with them being in our top 6 in the future. Nicklas Jensen might be a top 6 foward, but I think he will develope into a average offensive player, nothing in the lines of a Daniel Sedin or Ryan Kesler calibre. I think we are pretty screwed in 4-5 years, no offence. We might need to tank a year or 2, to get some new franchice players.

I think this is a bit melodramatic.
Post-Sedin era might be tough, but not LAST PLACE bad.

We might hit a few years where we're drafting in the 10-15 range.

in 3 or 4 years our window as a cup contendor will be closed

Or we could make a few key trades, draft an impact player late in the first round like Giroux, and have multiple prospects pan out.

Don't pretend to know the future.

It took about 6 years for Mr. Meltdown to be "run out" of this city so dont worry about it. Cory will be just fine.

You make it sound like Luongo is the NHL's leader in shutouts every year. He can take his 4 or 5 shutouts a year to TO or Florida. I'm sure Schneider will post plenty of shutouts for the Canucks.

because our drafting sucks?

since 2000 we have bieksa, kesler, schneider, edler, hansen, and raymond on our current roster. that is not good enough for 12 years of draft picks...

go from 99 and you get the sedin twins.
go from the lockout and you get raymond

Watch Bowness somehow mess up Tampa Bay's already amazing 2 powerplay units...he'll probably tell Stamkos to do drop passes from centre ice, take him out from the faceoff dot, and place him infront of the goalie

You have a good point, but how bout players we drafted since the last cba? 2005 +

fail. Total Failure. We dont have a drafted player playing for us starting from 2005, thats how failure how drafting has been. BUt I do hope things change for us. I'm praying we can score big if there is a draft lottery.
