What????????? "EDIT: I think you're also forgetting that Raymond can play center. Not very well, but with some help on faceoffs form Manny, he can become an excellent 3C"..........................Raymond can play centre but not very well? Andrew Alberts can play forward too but not very well, so how does that help the Canucks? And even if Raymond took some pointers from Manny on faceoffs, there's much more to playing centre than just faceoffs. Don't you think that if they thought that Raymond would become such an excellent 3rd line centre, as you suggest, that they would have made every effort to try him there for a prolonged period of time already?

+1.

Kostopoulos is a beast that I've wanted to pry out of Calgary for a while now. He's the type of guy you'd HATE to play a 7-game series against. And we need more of those guys - proven ones, not just young hopefuls like Weise, Volpatti, etc.

Kostopoulos?

And also known for dropping Bieksa in a fight; not bad for (also) a middlewight.

We do need right wingers, he would make our 4th line much more interesting and add very good depth. It would be a good signing! But he's not going t be a game breaker or anything!

News 1130 was talking with a number of agents this morning apparently:

We all knew about the Arnott discussions, and now the Cam Barker rumours that started yesterday, but I hadn't heard anything about Kostopoulos. Kostopoulos most recently played for the Flames with 12 points in 81 games and 124 hits. You might remember him from his most recent suspension for the hit that broke Brad Stuart's jaw.

Absolutely Daniel Sedin back healthy is a major statement.

Plus Kassian appears to now add a serviceable (if still raw) body who will at least equalize some match ups if he does not make an impact. That will help!

And we still have assets; too many LW, debatably an extra left D AND LOU. Still some cards to play and we have some trump already...

We'll be in the mix if those cards are played right!

And a healthy Daniel Sedin from the beggining.

Plus Arnott>>>Pahlsson

Two different player altogether; with value for competley different roles.

Kostopoulos is a heap faster than (PTO age) Nolan or Fedoruk. He's also 40 pounds lighter than Fedoruk, whose only real value was an enforcer (in fact probably only here last year to make guys earn their spots). Our 197 lb greek friend is a legitimate grinder with speed and an edge; very tough but a middleweight not an enforcer. We did not even grant our 4th liners, besides Manny, any ice in the play off's last year (or the year before). Think 4th line, take note that Pinizotto is injured and in reality if we had a truly legit 4th line we can ask different roles of lines 2 and 3.

But Kostopoulos is not a talent player where Arnott is. Arnott is; nearly a thousand career points and over 500 assists, a cup ring, former captain, 220 lbs his whole career, a natural centre and notably a RIGHT HANDED SHOT. He only left St Lou because Backes and Berglund pretty well cover the type of player Arnott is very well already. I watched St Louis, he was a useful role player for them, not washed up as reported, and helped them almost win a Prez trophy. He can play some centre, then move onto right wing when Kess is back, add some passing, plant his 220 lb butt in front of the net on our PP and battle on the boards. As long as his body is not asked to play top line checking minutes (cannot replace Kesler) he can step into may roles and lend what i needed. And remember, Samuelsson was a guy with a similar (but less accomplished) skill set that could step up when teams played their bigs against the Twins. Arnott would be about having this option more than replacing Kesler, but is a center until then anyway...

If all else is equal; Anott would take key draws because of his experiance and some offensive shifts but not more because of his age. Schroeder will stll be the guy whose speed is used to fore check and pressure in a defensive role. He's not a threat to Schroeder who would probably play with Higgins and Hansen. Our bottom two lines would become the key defensive lines until Kesler comes back;

Danny/Hank/Burr Key offensive line

Booth/Arnott/Kassian Secondary offensive line, without too many D responsibilities on Kassian.

Higgins/Schroeder/Hansen defensive and pressure line; very positive work rate!!!

Lapierre/Manny/Kostoupolos draws in our end

And look at the size problem line 2, talent on line 1 and speed on line 3 would cause!!!

Kostopoulos is being underrated here. He will be far more effective than Jason Arnott. Great team player, will stick up for em, and is basically a perfect grinder. Arnott is a bit slow now for the NHL, perhaps the shorten NHL season will help him but Arnott should be a guy who takes rest. He's pretty damn slow and old now, so after 30 games he'll be out of gas. People need to realize that Arnott isn't the same player he once was. That being said, I suppose you need someone to fill in for Kesler. Who knows? If Arnott signs for cheap, maybe he can be thrown with the Twins when Kesler is back. Anson Carter wasn't fast either. If it's true Luongo gets dealt for Bozak, I don't know how you can fit Arnott on this team.

The Canucks have been missing a guy like Kostopoulos for a while now. With the Twins being knocked down all the time, you gotta have a guy who knows their role and does their job. Kassian shouldn't be that guy. Kost will be much more effective than Dale Weiss.

Arnott as a third or fourth line center would be good playing less games, and less minutes than he did in St. Louis. If this guy is fresh and healthy come playoff time, he would be a great asset.

Everyone's concern seems to be that he's old and slow. Sure he's slowed down at 38, but he can still play. Scoring 17 goals at 38 years old is pretty impressive. And he did that on a low scoring Blues team.

He also had one of the lowest amount of giveaways on the Blues. So that shows you he's not a turnover machine. The guy is so big, he doesn't need speed. His game is about puck protection. Once he gets it, he rarely gives it up.

Put him with a couple fast players and he'll be fine. Our team has quite a bit of speed on it anyways, you can have a couple bigger slower players mixed in.
