The Official Manny Malhotra Needs to go Thread

As much as I respect Malhotra and sympathize for him, 2.5 mil is way too much for a guy who brings nothing to the table but face-off skill, PK and some leadership. It looks like he's never gonna be the same again, its a damn shame because he was awesome before the injury but its not a viable option for the long run. He needs to be let go after this season unless he takes a huge paycut.

The Canucks should just pay him to retire and give him a job at the coaching staff if he's that important to the team, cause quite frankly, he's a horrible player post injury.

The last game was a perfect example, the 4th line was non factor and guess who was centering it?

After he takes the faceoffs he has absolutely no clue what to do with the puck. He iced the puck a couple times last game when he could have easily passed to his wingers or bounced it at the walls.

He has no offensive awareness, cant carry the puck to the offensive zone, dump and chase is his speciality and he's not even good at forechecking. Losses almost every battle along the boards, cant pass or recieve passes, handles the puck like a granade, etc etc.

It will be intresting what the Canucks do with JS when everyone is healthy. To me, JS has shown enough to earn a spot on the 3rd line unless we get a player in return from the Luongo trade.

You cant really send Volpatti or Weise because they've done a good job providing energy to the lineup. So that leaves Malhotra, where does he fit exactly?

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows

Booth - Kesler - Kassian

Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen

Higgins - Lappiere - Wiese/Volpatti

Holy Crap!

Does anyone on here even pay attention to the Canucks players?

Manny Malhotra is in the last year of his contract, after this season he will become a UFA!

Now clearly Manny is not the 2.5 million dollar player he once was, but he is still a very effective player. He is great in the face off circle, good at the PK, and is a heart and soul player.

Personally I believe Mike Gillis should extend Manny's contract at the end of the year.

If I were GMMG I would sign Manny for 2 years @ 1 million per year.

If people don't appreciate what Malhotra does and the way he plays, I think they need to watch closer. He's a role player and he does it well. He's always in position, makes his linemates better, he's a dependable veteran presence. Great on faceoffs, as everyone knows, and on the PK. Also a great guy in the community, all his teammates seem to really like him, helps bind the team together and make things run smoothly. Maybe he'll never be the same player he was before his injury, maybe it'll take another year or two to recover, but he's still a player any team should be happy to have. Maybe you don't notice it if you're just drawn by flash and dazzle but Malhotra is a quietly excellent player.

Manny has integrity and would not play if he did not believe he was helping the club.

Management would not continue to dress him for every game if they did not share this belief.

He has suffered greatly from his injury and is not as good as he once was but he is still valuable to the team.

He is still recovering IMO and getting better and better as time passes, even though he will probably not return to his form prior to the injury.

He is still better than anyone else we have under contract for his position on the team and will become more valuable in the playoffs.

Didn't see an official thread or anything like that and it seemed like a popular enough idea such that its own thread should be created. I hope this offers an opportunity for a wide discussion.

We need to keep an objective view and see the facts as they are:

1. Great player until awful eye injury. His decline in his play is obvious as he constantly fumbles pucks and is a virtual anchor with every line he ever plays with now. He was worth well over 2.5 before the eye injury, hes probably worth about five hundred thousand now, that figure being very generous.

2. 7 GP no goals no assists -2 plus.minus and a grand total of 1 shot. That tells the story.

3. He is a great leader, but the team as a whole is a lot maturer now and don't need a vet like Manny to keep them going anymore. They've grown accustomed to playing without him.

Gillis should've bought this guy out the second the new CBA was signed. Maybe even dangle him for a 7th round pick....

I understand this guy is a great team guy and all that yada yada yada, but his time has passed and he needs to let a young kid like schroeder get a full time center position on the 4th line once kesler comes back. Manny is costing this team and his cons definitely outweigh the pros. Just my opinion.

Manny will be playing the last year of his contract as a Canuck, and deservedly so. He is a great faceoff player, it will come in handy in the playoffs you can be sure of that. He doesn't put up points, he does look a step behind, but the season is still young, and he is a 4th line player so what are you expecting? He will improve as the season goes forward and be less of a defensive liability anyways.

And the reason why he will remain a Canuck for the rest of his career: he is THE heart and soul kind of veteran that teams die for, and he's ours. When his season/career is done, he will most likely instantly take a position within the organization with player development. You can take that to the bank!

For any Canuck fans out there who for some reason think that the organization is classless and doesn't know how to deal with players: take a look at guys like Raymond (serious injury, given a fair opportunity) and Manny (classiest handling by the Canucks of any player in a long time).

Go Manny! :towel: Go Canucks! :towel:

I be happier with Ryan Johnson instead he was cheaper a face off guy and pk specialist.

In reality a big hard hitting fourth line center that would crash and bang would be even better and would help defend Canuck players. A line that put fear into players, put their heads on swivels and old fashion energy line that doesn't get much ice anyways. If you had a line like that perhaps Canuck players would not get injured so much.

Why the Canucks always need these pk specialist is just AV. Perhaps thats what holds them back. Sedins want to play the PK again but AV says no cause he needs places for these defencive specialist whom disappear in the playoffs and the Canucks are lit up. Oh yeah I forgot AV is a defensive coach and is always exposed for his weakness in the playoffs.

Manny is a team guy, a great leader I've heard and great in the faceoff circle. Outside of that, he hasn't been able to put together a solid enough effort to be worth the 2.5M he is being paid. No need to trade him tho, for he will be UFA in the offseason and if he resigns for something lower, in the 1-1.5M range, it'll be worth it. That is if he can maintain this status in the circle and elevates his offensive game just a little more. Perfect 4th lone guy though. He isn't taking anyone else's position on the ice or any ice time away from prospects, rookies, sophomores, stars or veterans. Lapierre is a better fit on the 3rd line, so he probably won't mind Manny either. Certainly not taking anything away from Schroeder, more like giving and helping...
